Vivo hosting event for V-series launch on December 9, could be the Vivo V17
Vivo is hosting an event on December 9 for a new smartphone launch. The company has sent out invites for the same and it’s largely expected to be the Vivo V17. The smartphone was launched in Russia earlier this week and rocks a dewdrop notch and a diamond-shaped camera module.
The same smartphone was also launched in the Philippines as the Vivo S1 Pro. The smartphone rocks the Snapdragon 665 along and a 48MP rear camera and a 32MP selfie camera on the front. There’s also a 4,500mAh battery to boot. In contrast, the Vivo V17 Pro, launched earlier this year rocks dual selfie cameras in a pop-up module along with a 48MP quad-camera setup at the back.
The invite that Vivo sent out confirms it is a V-series smartphone launching on December 9. That gives more fuel to the rumour that it’s the Vivo V17. Interestingly, the invite shows a hole-punch camera in the graphic. A recent report also tipped Vivo is planning to launch the Vivo V17 with a hole-punch display in India. The report also claimed Vivo will ditch the waterdrop notch for a more premium look.

Twitter is testing Reddit-esq nesting conversations
Looks like Twitter will be taking a leaf out of Reddit and is testing ‘nested’ replies. The feature was spotted by app researcher, Jane Manchun Wong. The new feature aims to make it easier to follow conversations. It was noted that the feature was first seen on Twitter’s beta testing app, Twttr and should roll out to the general public sometime in 2020.
A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that the new feature is a part of the company’s broader plans to bring feature from Twttr to the Twitter app. However, the spokesperson also noted that not all features discovered by Wong would be a part of the launch of the global version of the app. Just the “best parts”.
Twitter continues working on Conversation Tree now with the ability to focus a specific tweet, even from a permalink pic.twitter.com/CVadSqbFDP
— Jane Manchun Wong (@wongmjane) November 26, 2019
In related news, it was recently reported that Twitter planned to remove accounts that haven’t signed in for six months or more. The plan is scheduled to start from December 11, but a spokesperson said that closing said accounts may take months. The move is aimed at cleaning up the platform and present more accurate, credible information that is reliable. Twitter has also said that it will find a way to memorialise accounts of people who have died but didn’t really say anything beyond that. So hopefully, we will not lose accounts of some of our loved ones who passed away a few years ago.

Apple could bundle AirPods with 2020 iPhones: Report
The Apple AirPods are one of the best-selling Truly Wireless Earphones in the market today. Now, according to a new report by DigiTimes, Apple is planning to bundle AirPods with the upcoming iPhone 2020 models. The report also mentions Samsung and Xiaomi are also planning on doing the same.
The reports cites industry sources behind the scoop, and considering the patchy reputation of the publication in predicting developments, it’s better to take this report with a pinch of salt given the high asking price of AirPods.
Apple sells the AirPods for more than Rs 10,00 and it’s difficult to imagine the company simply ditching a major source of revenue and bundling the product with the iPhones of the future. But then again, Apple introduced the AirPods Pro a few weeks back which has been selling out everywhere and Apple has already decided to increase production.
If the AirPods Pro becomes Apple’s premium play, the AirPods can indeed come bundled with the 2020 iPhones. You can surely expect the price of iPhones to shoot up even more, if that’s the case. Apple also might look to modernise the iPhone packaging. So far, Apple has been bundling Lightning EarPods with every new iPhone and bundling AirPods could be a way to catch up with changing times.

LG UX 90 showcased, coming to LG G8X ThinQ in the future
LG’s new UI is out and the company has made some serious new changes to how LG smartphones will look from the inside. Called LG UX 9.0, the new interface improves upon the aesthetics of UX 8.0, and introduces new features to make usability of a LG smartphone much better.
LG phones were long overdue of an UI overhaul considering its phones received a lot of flak over its choice of UI aesthetics. That’s soon to change and by the looks of it, LG has taken big inspiration from Samsung’s OneUI.
The company released an YouTube video showcasing the changes and in the video description, it says the UI will first come to the LG G8X ThinQ at some point in time.
LG UX 9.0 incorporates bubbles everywhere with rounded corners. There’s more space between elements while the fonts are much bolder. The bottom of the screen will house a lot of actionable items, which should be easily reachable by the thumb. The new UI also brings a dark mode which can be scheduled and a new tablet UI for better multitasking.
By the looks of it, LG seems to have borrowed some aesthetics from iOS and some from Samsung’s OneUI. But then again, everything these days seems to be a copy of the other. What’s more important is that the UI should make using LG phones better. It looks more modern, for one.

Samsung trademarks Bright Night sensor, may feature in Galaxy S11 smartphone: Report
Information about Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S11 continues to leak in bits and pieces. This time around, Dutch publication LetsGoDigital claim to have gotten their hands on a trademark filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The filing describes a new camera sensor that is dubbed “Bright Night”. As per the filing, the sensor will be used in smartphones and tablets. Details about Bright Night are not yet known, and it is speculated that it might be a new sensor dedicated for low-light photography.
Samsung has also filed a patent for a feature called ‘Space Zoom’. Once again, details about the feature are not yet known, except for the fact that it will offer lossless zoom. It is possible that the feature is aims at helping with Astrophotography, a much touted feature in the Pixel 4.
The upcoming samsung phone is tipped to feature a quad-rear camera setup with support for 5x optical zoom. It is also tipped to feature a 2nd Gen 108MP sensor. To recall, Samsung unveiled the 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor in August this year. The sensor was developed in partnership with Xiaomi and is used in the Mi Note 10 smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S11 is tipped to be available in three screen sizes, with five variants overall. Notable tipter, Evan Blass tweeted that the upcoming Samsung Flagship will be available in 6.2, 6.4 and 6.7 inches. He also notes that 6.2-inch and 6.4-inch variants will be available in LTE and 5G variants, while the 6.7-inch variant will only be available in 5G. He further adds that all of the device will feature a curved design. The new phone is tipped to be unveiled sometime in mid-to-late February, which is around the time of the Mobile World Congress.

Motorola One Hyper with a 32MP pop-up selfie camera to launch on December 3
Motorola has teased a smartphone launch event for December 3 in Brazil. The teaser image shows a smartphone with a pop-up camera. There is only one smartphone from Motorola rumoured to house a pop-up selfie camera - the Moto One Hyper. Earlier reports of the smartphone hint at a 6.39-inch IPS LCD display with a Full HD+ resolution. Under the hood, the device is speculated to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 Chipset. The selfie camera, which will be housed in a pop-up mechanism, similar to what we’ve seen on The OnePlus 7 Pro, will house a 32MP selfie camera. The rear of the device is expected to have a 64MP camera accompanied by an 8MP depth sensor. It could also sport 128GB built-in storage. The only piece of information missing is the pricing and colour options. There is also no information on whether the device will make its way to India.
Speaking of Motorola, the company showcased its foldable phone called the Razr, and just like the timeless slim smartphone, the new Razr is full of nostalgia. It brings back the classic flip design that made the original Razr so popular. Not to mention that Shahrukh Khan used the original Moto Razr in the remake of Don, making the smartphone all the more desirable. The 2019 foldable Moto Razr has a price tag of $1500 in the US which translates to roughly Rs 1.10 lakhs.
Coming to the specs of the new foldable Razr, the smartphone has a 6.3-inches foldable display with a resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels. The display is P-OLED with a 21:9 aspect ratio. When folded the smartphone has a 2.7-inch display with a 600x800 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it has the Snapdragon 710 SoC coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB built-in storage. A 2510mAh battery with 15W TurboPower fast-charging support powers the entire package.

BSNL returns with Rs 1,999 prepaid plan, offers 250 minutes, 3GB data daily for 365 days
A few days ago, we reported that BSNL had reintroduced the Rs 1,098 prepaid mobile plan in many Indian states with unlimited data and calling minutes. Now we learn from a recently published TelecomTalk report that the well-established state-run telecom operator is bringing back yet another one of its popular prepaid plans. Called the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan, it comes with a validity of 365 days. During this period, the subscriber will enjoy 250 minutes of calling time and 3GB of data daily.
It’s worth noting that the 250 minutes of daily calling minutes on the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan is valid even on calls made to Mumbai and New Delhi numbers, making the plan an even more attractive option for loyal BSNL prepaid patrons. When the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan is active, the user will get to use 3GB of data every day at full speed. However, if they exhaust the data cap within a day’s time, their internet speed will be reduced to 80kbps until the cap is reset again at midnight.
In addition, subscribers of the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan get access to BSNL’s library of PRBT (personalised ring-back tone) with unlimited track changes. They also enjoy a free one-year subscription to SonyLIV’s range of video-on-demand entertainment channels. TelecomTalk points out in its report that there are other recently introduced BSNL prepaid plans as well. For example, users in Chennai can subscribe to the Rs 97 prepaid plan, which offers 250 minutes of calling time and 2GB of data daily for 18 days.
Another TelecomTalk report from earlier in the year says that BSNL recently installed 54,000 towers between 2018 and 2019 to improve its 4G network coverage, “which is more than what BSNL had deployed in the past three years combined”. BSNL’s recently introduced Rs 1,098 prepaid plan comes with unlimited calling and data for 84 days. It also offers 100 free SMS messages per day. You can read more about that plan here.

Customers can get Rs 1000 off on prepaid orders on 28th November only. They can also avail no-cost EMI up to six months. Customers can also get Jio Benefits worth Rs 6,000.
Coming to the specifications of the Vivo U20, the smartphone features a 6.53 full-HD+ FullView display with a waterdrop notch. It has a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio and the display has a claimed brightness of 480nits. Under the hood, the Vivo U20 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset. It comes in two variants - 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 64GB. A 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support powers the entire package.
Coming to the optics, the Vivo U20 has a triple rear camera setup. It has a 16MP primary camera with an f/1.78 aperture + an 8MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and finally a 2MP macro sensor. The rear camera has features like EIS and Super Night mode. For your selfie needs, the smartphone has a 16MP selfie shooter.
We have spent some time with the smartphone and in our first impressions, we noted that the Vivo U20 is well placed to compete with the Redmi Note 8 and the Realme 5s, at least on paper. It seems to be “plugging in the gaps” between the Note 8 and the Realme 5s. The U20 brings with it a gaming SoC, fast charging, large battery, Full HD display, and more. You can read our detailed first impressions here.

Samsung may drop Qualcomms Ultrasonic Fingerprint technology
The next generation of Samsung smartphones may not feature Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensors. According to a report by the Korea Times, the move may be in response to growing security concerns regarding the sensors and the publication quotes an analyst who suggests that the South Korean manufacturer may abandon the tech for its future devices.
“Samsung Electronics applied the ultrasonic fingerprint scanners to its new smartphones despite lingering security concerns," a source told the publication, “The latest security issue involving the new technology could cause other smartphone manufacturers to hesitate to adopt it.”
The optical fingerprint sensor used by phones like the OnePlus 7 creates a 2D map of the fingerprint, which is then used to authenticate the user. Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor creates a 3D map to authenticate the user.
This report comes just a few weeks after it was reported that certain banks were blacklisting Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 phones from either downloading their official apps, or using biometric authentication. Back in April this year, a video surfaced that showed the Galaxy S10 being fooled by a 3D printed fingerprint pattern. To create the 3D map, the user claimed to have taken a photograph of his fingerprint from a wine glass with a smartphone, and then used software to calculate the depth information. The data was then used to 3D print the fingerprint pattern on a transparent strip.

Honor V30 and V30 Pro 5G smartphones launched with 40MP triple rear camera
Honor has officially launched the Honor V30 and V30 Pro at an event in Beijing, China. Both the smartphone will be available for pre-order in China on December 5 and there is no information on when the devices will be available internationally. Both the V30 and V30 Pro boast of 5G connectivity and are the first Honor 5G phones to be launched. Both smartphones come with five cameras - 2 on the front and 3 on the back and are powered by the Kirin 990 chipset under the hood.
The Honor V30 and V30 Pro sport a 6.57-inch LCD display with a Full HD+ resolution. The fingerprint sensor on the smartphones is on the side, much like the Samsung Galaxy S10e. When it comes to optics, both smartphones have three cameras at the back. The cameras are housed in a slight bump. Both the V30 and V30 Pro house a 40MP Sony IMX600 sensor with Dual OIS and laser AF as the main sensor. However, it must be noted that the V30 Pro has a faster f/1.6 lens when compared to the f/1.8 lens on the V30. Next up is an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, f/2.4 aperture and OIS. This module is identical between the two smartphones. Last but not least, is the ultrawide camera. The Honor V30 has a 12MP f/2.2 sensor whereas the V30 has an 8MP f/2.4 sensor.
At the front, both the smartphones have a dual-camera setup. It is a punch hole camera design and because there are two sensors, it has an oval shape. The smartphones house a 32MP main selfie cam that boasts of Super Night Mode accompanied by an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera that has a 105-degree FoV.
Under the hood, both the smartphones have the Kirin 990 SoC, but there is a slight difference between the two. The Honor V30 sports the basic 7nm Kirin 990. This chipset is accompanied by the Balong 5000 modem. The V30 Pro, on the other hand, sports the 7nm+ Kirin 990 with an integrated modem. Both the devices support 5G and are the first smartphones from the house of Honor to do so. The devices will run on Android 10 out of the box with Honor’s Magic UI 3.0.1 overlaying it. The devices also have GPU Turbo and Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 to enhance the users gaming experience.
Both V30 and V30 Pro will support 40W Honor SuperCharge. In addition, the V30 Pro also supports 27W Super Wireless Charge. When it comes to battery capacity, the Honor V30 has a 4,200mAh battery and the V30 Pro has 4,100mAh.
Coming to the pricing and availability, the Honor V30 will be priced at CNY 3,299 (Rs 33,500 approx. directly converted) for the 6/128 GB variant and the 8/128 GB variant is priced at CNY 3,699 (Rs 37,700 approx. directly converted).
The 8/128 GB variant of the Honor V30 Pro is priced at CNY 3,899 (Rs 40,000 approx. directly converted) whereas the 8/256GB variant is priced at CNY 4,199 (Rs 43,000 approx. directly converted).
As for availability, there is no word on when the devices will hit the international market. But they will go on pre-order in China starting December 5 with a flash sale taking place seven days later. The smartphones will be available in Orange, Pearl White, Blue and Black colour options.

Google explains why some games arent running in 4K on Stadia
Google’s cloud gaming service Stadia promised users a 4K resolution with 60fps support on all games at launch, provided consumers had access to a TV that could support the same. They also said that if, for some reason, developers wanted to lock the FPS at 30, the service would provide a 4K 30fps experience. However, recently it has been revealed that Destiny 2 runs at 1080p on the service and is upscaled to 4K. Red Dead Redemption 2, on the other hand, renders in 2K (1440p) and upscales to 4K. Upscaling a 2K resolution to 4K isn't new as the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X have been doing this for a lot of games.
Google has released a statement on the subject saying, “Stadia streams at 4K and 60 FPS - and that includes all aspects of our graphics pipeline from game to screen: GPU, encoder and Chromecast Ultra all outputting at 4k to 4k TVs, with the appropriate internet connection. Developers making Stadia games work hard to deliver the best streaming experience for every game. Like you see on all platforms, this includes a variety of techniques to achieve the best overall quality. We give developers the freedom of how to achieve the best image quality and framerate on Stadia and we are impressed with what they have been able to achieve for day one. We expect that many developers can, and in most cases will, continue to improve their games on Stadia. And because Stadia lives in our data centres, developers are able to innovate quickly while delivering even better experiences directly to you without the need for game patches or downloads."
In other Stadia news, users have taken to Reddit to complain about overheating. It looks like the Chromecast Ultras that gamers are using with their TV is overheating causing the device to shut down. A post on the Reddit thread reads, “I was in the middle of a fight in Destiny 2 when suddenly my Chromecast died and lost connectivity to the network. I went to unplug it from the power and it was extremely hot. Has anyone else experienced overheating with the new Chromecast Ultras that come with the Founder's Edition? I hadn't seen other posts about that.”
Google has responded to the thread. Stadia Community manager GraceFromGoogle has responded by saying “Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We know any sort of heat on a device can be worrisome, but we can confirm there is no thermal overheating issue with Chromecast Ultra. During normal usage (like watching cat videos on YouTube), the surface of the device may get warm to the touch, but this is working as designed. The team has done extensive testing on the hardware, services and games—this includes tests of long Stadia play and video sessions—and have not seen thermal shutdown problems”.
Users have been coming up with their own solutions for the overheating problem and you can check them out here.
Stadia is off to a rocky start, but then again so was the Xbox One, but Microsoft did take all the right steps to ensure that the Xbox One becomes a desirable proposition.
When it comes to cloud gaming, many speculated that Stadia would be the Netflix of gaming but sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. The one service that is going to be the Netflix of cloud gaming is Microsoft’s Project xCloud combined with Game Pass. Stadia may not be coming to India anytime soon, but Microsoft has confirmed that Project xCloud will come to India in 2020. You can read more about Project xCloud coming to India here.

And already, we're beginning to see signs of it coming to India. According to a recent report by 91mobiles, Xiaomi is currently planning to launch the Mi Note 10 in India. Unfortunately, the timeline of the launch is still unknown. Like the international version, the Mi Note 10 will come to India with a 108MP penta camera setup. Its price at the time of launch is expected to be around Rs 45,000.
The report says that Xiaomi's leaders are still planning the timeline for the Mi Note 10's India launch. It goes on to say that the company was originally supposed to launch the handset in December along with the Mi Mix Alpha but that plan has been scrapped. The Mi Mix Alpha, being something of a concept phone, will be sold in limited numbers when it goes on sale in the country. You can read more on the Mi Mix Alpha here.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 comes with a penta camera setup, which means there are five individual cameras stacked vertically on the device's back panel. The primary sensor in the stack is a 108MP unit with an aperture of f/1.69 and optical image stabilisation. The second sensor is a 12MP portrait unit with an aperture of f/2.0 and dual-pixel autofocus. The third is a 5MP telephoto sensor with 10x hybrid zoom. The fourth is a 20MP ultra-wide-angle unit with a field of vision of 117 degrees. The fifth and final sensor is a 2MP macro unit. On the front, there's a single 32MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.0.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset with up to 6GB of RAM. Internal storage space goes up to 128GB. The display is a 6.47-inch 3D curved AMOLED unit with a maximum resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a claimed maximum brightness value of 600 nits. The display contains a fingerprint scanner underneath the surface and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Mi Note 10 packs a 5260mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging using the bundled 30W charger. The handset will run the company's proprietary MIUI 11 software right out of the box.

Tesla Armor Glass on Cybertruck cracks under pressure, unlike Elon Musk
Tesla product unveilings have always consisted of two distinct elements on stage: a fancy new EV (because that's what Tesla makes) and Elon Musk (the man who runs the company). A combination of these two elements has always resulted in a spectacular show of speed and force, leaving the audience visibly impressed. Musk, who is something of a showman at such events, probably did not think something could go wrong when there's glass-breaking involved. But at the unveiling of Tesla's latest Cybertruck EV, it did.
When Musk unveiled the new Tesla Cybertruck a couple of days ago in Los Angeles, California, he wanted to demonstrate how impregnable the EV's outer structure (or ‘exoskeleton’) was. So, he had Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen beat the Cybertruck's front door with a sledgehammer, only to show that nothing had happened to it after impact. But when he had his companion hurl a steel ball at the Cybertruck's windows from less than a metre, the glass in both windows positively cracked.
The Cybertruck's windows probably weren't supposed to crack during that demo, given that they're made of ‘Tesla Armor Glass’, which is an “ultra-strong glass” with a “polymer-layered composite” that can “absorb and redirect impact force for improved performance and damage tolerance.” In fact, Musk's onstage assistants successfully demonstrated the glass' strength a few minutes before the Cybertruck demo by dropping the same steel ball on it from an estimated height of about six feet. What's more, Musk later tweeted a video in which the Cybertruck's window goes through a successful ball-smash test.
From the video posted by The Verge, we can tell Musk himself looked quite surprised the windows on the Cybertruck cracked. But instead of dwelling on the faux pas, he decided to look at the bright side of the failed experiment by saying words like, “on the plus side, it didn't go through” and “room for improvement”. Is Tesla's new glass camera-shy? Or was the demo unit fitted with regular glass? The internet is suddenly buzzing with theories like this one on what happened there. Whichever be the case, we feel Musk did a good job of covering his shock up on stage, unlike the Cybertruck's smashed windows.

Google pulls plug on Cloud Print, advises users to use native printing
If you've printed web pages and emails from Google Chrome, then there's a good chance you've come across the name Cloud Print. It's Google's cloud-based printing solution that has come bundled with Chrome for nearly a decade now. According to a recent support document published by Google, the California-based technology firm intends to kill support for Cloud Print by December 31, 2020. Google wants its users to find a different or native printing solution by then.
Cloud Print, which has so far been the default printing solution for Chromebook users on Chrome OS, was launched in 2010 in beta. Like the popular Hangouts-predecessor Google Talk, it never left beta, and soon, it will be phased out from Chrome without a stable release. “We recommend that over the next year, you identify an alternative solution and execute a migration strategy,” notes Google. This means users on Windows and Mac will have to start using the native print dialogue to print pages from Chrome.
What about printing on Chrome OS then? Well, Google has already implemented a UNIX-based native printing solution called CUPS, which also does duty on Chrome Enterprise. Before the end of the current year, it will add more enhancements to the same on Chrome OS. This native printing solution is “enabled through the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS). CUPS uses an Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) that allows printing directly to a printer over the local network.” This will also work with printers connected via USB.
If you feel up to moving away from Cloud Print and towards native printing on your Chromebook—which you should start doing from now anyway—you can begin here. Google has a step-by-step guide to help you connect your printer to your Chromebook without using Cloud Print. Additionally, you can disable Cloud Print by following these steps. And if you're in the market for a new entry-level Chromebook, you can read our review of the recently launched HP Chromebook 14 here. It currently costs Rs 22,980 on Amazon.in.

Exclusive: This is what the Nokia TV launching as Flipkart Unique looks like
If you are looking to invest in a new smart TV, then we’d say hold your horses. Flipkart has confirmed to us that Nokia is launching its smart TV running on Android as a Flipkart Unique product, and the sound for the upcoming TV will be powered by JBL Audio. From the picture above, you have a glimpse of what the TV will look like. We can see the sound output from the TV will be handled by JBL sound system speakers. From the image, it is also clear that the TV will have front-firing speakers.
One of the weakest elements in TVs these days is the audio output. Through the partnership with JBL, customers can expect acoustics engineered by JBL along with sound tuning as per JBL standards on the upcoming Nokia TV. Flipkart has confirmed to Digit that the TV will come with features like Clear Vocal Tones and Minimal Harmonic Distortion. JBL speakers are known for superior sound fidelity and hence we expect the Nokia TV to deliver on the promise. In addition to speakers from JBL, the TV also brings with it Dolby Audio & DTS TruSurround Sound which is said to enhance your TV viewing experience. With Dolby Audio & DTS TruSurround, the TV will be able to decode high fidelity audio and play it back for you from the TVs JBL powered speakers. With DTS TruSurround the TV will be able to decode 5.1 surround sound and play it back to you via the TVs JBL speakers as well.
Moving to other specifications of the Nokia TV, it is a 55-inch TV with a 4K resolution. In an earlier story we reported, Mr Vipul Mehrotra, Vice President, Nokia Brand Partnerships said, “We are delighted that Flipkart, the leading e-commerce company in the country, will bring the first-ever Nokia branded Smart TVs to India. Today marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the Nokia brand in a new category.”

OnePlus website yet again breached, says affected users might receive spam emails
In this day and age of connected systems and online transactions, cybersecurity is of paramount importance. Unfortunately, systems are designed by people and are prone to vulnerabilities and flaws. OnePlus has now disclosed a data breach incident, wherein it says some users' order information was “accessed by an unauthorized party.” This was disclosed in a blog post where OnePlus’ security team staff member Ziv C. posted the information. As per the company, breached information doesn’t include any payment information and passwords, and says that all the accounts are safe. However, names, contact info, email and shipping address ‘may’ have been revealed.
As for the effects of this data breach, OnePlus says affected users could receive phishing emails or get spammed as a result. However, it has not disclosed how many users were actually affected. “We took immediate steps to stop the intruder and reinforce security. Before making this public, we informed our impacted users by email. Right now, we are working with the relevant authorities to further investigate this incident,” OnePlus writes in its blog post. The company has apologised and says it has inspected its website for similar flaws and has sent out emails to all affected users. The weird bit is that the company has not disclosed any further details like what vulnerability led to information disclosure.
As mentioned earlier, this isn’t the first time OnePlus has suffered from a security incident. Back in January 2018, the smartphone manufacturer revealed that about 40,000 customers' credit card information was stolen from its website. This apparently happened due to a malicious script that was inserted on the company’s web pages. It is said to have read and sent sensitive financial data directly from a user’s browser.
While the credit card information leak was a big blow to the company’s security, it again slipped up with user’s data. In June this year, the company’s Shot On OnePlus app was found to have a flaw that was leaking email IDs of thousands of OnePlus smartphone users. OnePlus was reportedly using an API to connect its server with the Shot on OnePlus app and the API was hosted on open.oneplus.net, which was said to be not secure. Anyone with an access token, which could be retrieved easily, could enter the server. You can read more about it here.

Tesla unveils Cybertruck, an all-electric light commercial vehicle with an 800km range
From an automaker that came up with a special ‘Ludicrous Mode’ to make its electric cars go faster, what sort of pickup truck can we expect but a mad-looking one? Tesla’s new all-electric light commercial vehicle, the Cybertruck, is indeed a futuristic collection of sharp edges on wheels. Unveiled yesterday by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at an event in Los Angeles, California, the Tesla Cybertruck features a maximum range of about 800 kilometres on a single charge and a maximum towing capacity of about 6 tonnes.
While it’s really cool to view in pictures and videos, the Tesla Cybertruck is nowhere close to being road-ready. Tesla has currently opened up its new electric pickup truck for online pre-order but deliveries will commence only in late 2021. The Tesla Cybertruck will be available in three variants: a single-motor variant with rear-wheel drive, a dual-motor variant with all-wheel drive, and a tri-motor variant with all-wheel drive. The tri-motor variant will be available for delivery only in late 2022.
The price of the new Tesla Cybertruck starts at $39,900 (Rs 28.61 lakh) and goes all the way up to $69,900 (Rs 50.17 lakh approx). While the base single-motor variant is good for a driving range of around 400 kilometres and does 0-100 kilometres per hour in under 6.5 seconds, the top-end tri-motor variant comes with a driving range of over 800 kilometres and can do 0-100 kilometres per hour in under 2.9 seconds. What’s more, a self-driving package can be bought optionally for $7,000 (Rs 5 lakh approx).
A profile view of Tesla’s new pickup truck reveals what’s best termed a long triangle on wheels. It has four small doors on the side and a long LED light strip running across its face. According to Tesla, the Cybertruck can supply power to power tools without needing a portable generator. The truck also packs an air compressor for pneumatic tools. Optional cabin features include bulletproofed doors and windows along with complete cabin pressurisation for amphibious use. We expect to get more details on this do-it-all electric pickup truck in the coming days.

Alleged Redmi K30 Pro passes 3C certification, could come with 30W fast charging support
A new Xiaomi device has been spotted passing the 3C certification. The device is a 5G smartphone and while the name of the phone is not known, it is likely to be a Redmi K30 series handset. The certification reveals that it will be the first dual-mode 5G smartphone from Xiaomi. The smartphone is allegedly stated to come with a charger with the model number MDY-11-EF (CC9 Pro). It means that the smartphone will have support for 30W fast charging.
Previously, the Xiaomi CEO confirmed that the Redmi K30 5G model will be launched this December. It is expected that Redmi may launch the Redmi K30 next month, while the Pro variant could be launched next year. The company has also already shared a partial image of the upcoming Redmi K30 smartphone, which showed that the device could come with a punch-hole display that will be pill-shaped to house two front-facing cameras.
Redmi K30 is rumoured to be codenamed “Phoenix.” The device is said to come with a 120Hz refresh rate display. A method called “isSuppotHighFrameRate” was spotted by XDA-Developers. The high refresh rate setting was forced to show up and it is defined to only switch between 60Hz and 120Hz. The new feature may debut with the Redmi K30.
Moreover, Redmi K30 is tipped to sport a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. According to the report, a new method called “isBroadSideFingerprint” has been added in the recent versions of MIUI 11. A graphic shows a generic smartphone with dual hole-punch front cameras and a right-side-mounted fingerprint scanner. You can read more about it here.
The Redmi K30 may also be the first device to sport Sony’s upcoming IMX686 image sensor that is supposed to be a 60MP image sensor. Redmi K30 will launch in December with 5G support and it will be the successor of the Redmi K20.
