Nvidia is expected to announce the 3000 series of consumer GeForce graphics cards, but in the days leading up to the launch, there’s already a lot of unofficial and official chatter. According to Tom’s Hardware, a tweet claims to show off a number of renders of the upcoming RTX 3090 by Zotac. Another tweet shows a total of 9 models between the RTX 3090, RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 family of GPUs. According to VideoCardz, the Nvidia RTX 3090 would sport 24GB of GDDR6X memory and 5248 CUDA Cores. The RTX 3080 is reported to have 10GB GDDR6X memory while the RTX 3070 will have 8GB GDDR6X VRAM. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is reported by VideoCardz to be capable of pulling up to 350W of power. Call of Duty: Mobiles Thermite lethal grenade now available: Heres everything you need to know

Call of Duty: Mobile players will now be able to unlock the new Thermite lethal grenade in the game. The new throwable has to be unlocked via the ‘Rocket Arm’ seasonal challenge, but does not require players to fully complete the challenge in order to unlock it. In fact, the grenade will be unlocked right after players complete the second challenge.

Conquest ⁣ To escape your past, face it head on!⁣ ⁣ New Battle Pass⁣ Shipment⁣ Reznov⁣ Nikto - Stronghold⁣ Kilo Bolt-Action⁣ & more!⁣ ⁣ New season, weapons, modes and soldiers available NOW in #CODMobile! pic.twitter.com/YZBA6bDQXw

— Call of Duty: Mobile (@PlayCODMobile) August 16, 2020

Unlocking procedure

As mentioned before, unlocking the Thermite is pretty straightforward as players will only have to complete two challenges. The first tasks them with using the Smoke Grenade ten times in matches. After that, players will have to kill five enemies using trip mines. After that, the new lethal grenade is unlocked.

How to use

The Themite is more of an Area Denial Weapon that is designed to be used to keep enemies from entering a particular area. As such, it is pretty similar in use to the molotov cocktail that was initially a scorestreak, but was transferred to the lethal grenade slot after the Season 9 Conquest update.

How it works

When thrown, the Thermite grenade sticks to where it lands and starts burning for a few seconds. Any enemies caught in the radius will start to burn and will die if they don’t step away. The grenade will stick to any surface before detonating.

Call of Duty: Mobile has introduced a new lethal grenade called Thermite

Molotov vs Thermite

Both these grenades are Area Denial Weapons. However, the Thermite cover a larger radius (50) as compared to the Molotov Cocktail (40). However, the Molotov has a higher damage (60) as compared to the Thermite (40).

Strategy

As an Area Denial Weapon, the Thermite is extremely useful in game modes like Hardpoint and Domination as it will delay opponents from entering an area. It can also be used in common flanking routes in order to deny opponens the chance to enter an area. It is best used in small areas like rooms, corridors and even doorways.

Redmi 9A confirmed to be available exclusively on Amazon

Xiaomi is prepping to launch the latest iteration of its "Desh ka smartphone" - the Redmi 9A in India on September 2. Days before the launch, it is confirmed that the budget phone will be available on Amazon. For those unaware, the Redmi 9A is company's latest offering in its entry-level series of phones, which is highly popular in India.

Amazon has made the Redmi 9A product page live, revealing that the smartphone will be available exclusively on its platform. Sadly, the listing doesn't reveal more details about the hardware of the phone, but those interested can now register with the 'notify me' button to receive all the updates about the launch. But the smartphone is likely to boast of similar specifications as its global variant.

#DeshKaSmartphone #Redmi9A is launching on 2nd September! But can you spot all the previously launched #Redmi A series smartphones in this picture? pic.twitter.com/cWNkpUk3R5

— Redmi India - #Redmi9 is here! (@RedmiIndia) August 28, 2020

The Redmi 9A was launched alongside the Redmi 9C in the global markets back in June. The company recently launched the Redmi 9C in India, rebranded as the Redmi 9 Prime, priced at Rs 9,999. The Redmi 9A is priced at RM 349 (Approx Rs 6,350), and we expect to be priced around Rs 7K mark in the Indian market.

Globally, Redmi 9A was launched in three colour variants - Midnight Grey, Twilight Blue, and Peacock Green.

Redmi 9A colour variants

Redmi 9A specifications

The Redmi 9A comes with a 6.53-inch HD+ IPS display with 20:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio G25 chipset with IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The chipset is coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 512GB via micro USB). The company might introduce more variants of the phone in the country. On the camera front, it features a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

All of this is powered by a 5000mAh battery, which is one of the key highlights of the Redmi 9A. In the software department, the phone has the MIUI 11 skin on top of Android 10.

Although the global variant gives us a good look at the design and specs, we will have to wait for the pricing and availability details of the phone until September 2.

PUBG Mobile bans over 2 million cheating accounts in one week

PUBG Mobile has announced that it has banned over 2 million players over the course of a week. According to a tweet by the developers, 2,273,152 accounts were banned from August 20 to August 27. This also included 1,424,854 devices which were permanently suspended from accessing the game.

From August 20th to August 27th, 2,273,152 accounts and 1,424,854 devices have been permanently suspended from accessing our game, out of which these are the reasons: 12%: Speed Cheats 22%: Other 27%: Auto-Aim Cheats 32%: X-Ray Vision pic.twitter.com/0U7JFeSxtF

— PUBG MOBILE (@PUBGMOBILE) August 29, 2020

The tweet also reveals some interesting statistics. The developers note that a majority (33%) of the banned players were caught using X-Ray Vision, while 27% of the players were using Auto-Aim. 12% of the players were using Speed Hacks. The percentage of players banned for modifying areas of damage or character models was 4% and 3% respectively. 22% of players were caught using other cheats.

PUBG Mobile's ant cheat measures saw over 2 million accounts banned in a week

PUBG Mobile is set to be updated to v1.0 on September 8 and these measures might just be an indication of stricter anti-cheat measures taken by the developers. Players have been complaining of cheaters in the game for quite a while and although all cheaters may not have been caught this week, the move should surely still be welcomed by all. Players are also encouraged to report cheating whenever possible.

Cheating is a major issue in multiplayer games like PUBG Mobile. Even other games like Garena Free Fire have issues with hackers. We reached out to Free Fire a few months ago to discuss the problem as well as the steps taken by them to control it. You can read about that here.

PUBG Mobile’s v1.0 update will be one of the biggest updates for the game. It will not only introduce better graphics, but will also feature an overhauled UI and lobby. It will also come with a new version of Erangel that will feature new layouts and additions. You can read about there here.

AMD launches the Radeon RX 5300 3GB entry-level RDNA graphics card without fanfare

AMD has launched the Radeon RX 5300 graphics card for the entry-level segment based on the same RDNA microarchitecture that powers their RX 5000 series including the RX 5700 XT, RX 5700, RX 5600 XT, RX 5600 and RX 5500 XT. The Radeon RX 5300 is expected to be priced around INR 13000-15000 since it's supposed to compete against the NVIDIA GTX 1650 and its overclocked variants. The RX 5300 was launched silently without any fanfare and all we know comes from a product page on AMD's website. This is not the RX 5300M mobile variant that was launched in November 2019.

AMD Radeon RX 5300 desktop Graphics card

AMD Radeon RX 5300 Graphics card specifications

The AMD RX 5300 graphics card has the same core configuration as the Radeon RX 5500 XT but features lower clock speeds and a narrower memory bus. It also ships with just 3GB of GDDR6 VRAM which is lesser than what the competing NVIDIA GTX 1650 ships with by 1 GB. However, the NVIDIA cards use GDDR5 memory whereas AMD uses GDDR6. the memory bandwidth of the 1650 GDDR5 variant is 128 GB/s whereas the RX 5300 has a memory bandwith of 168 GB/s. NVIDIA also launched a GDDR6 variant of the GTX 1650 earlier this year which has a memory bandwidth of 192 GB/s. The faster memory on the RX 5300 will help overcome the lower capacity, however, the extent of its impact can only be determined once the benchmarks are in.

All benchmarks run on the highest ingame preset at 1080p resolution shows the RX 5300 beating the GTX 1650 by a wide margin. The RX 5300 supposedly scored 86 FPS in Battlefield 5 (high), 69 FPS in Monster Hunter World (highest), 69 FPS in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (high) and 70 FPS in PUBG running on Ultra.

OnePlus Nord users facing Bluetooth connectivity issues

The OnePlus Nord (review) is easily the most hyped smartphone of 2020. The anticipated reached its peak just before its launch, and in nearly every review, the smartphone has been hailed to be one that just works. Yet, despite the team working on the product for more than a year, the OnePlus Nord also received five software updates within one month of its launch for bug fixes. That certainly erodes away the confidence, and indicates OnePlus may not have tested every aspect of the smartphone before releasing it to the public.

The belief grew stronger after complaints of display tinting flooded the internet right after the first sale happened. Users complained of the display showing a green tint at low brightness, while YouTubers like JerryRigEverything criticised the smartphone for its plastic frame. And like most other OnePlus smartphones, Nord’s issues keep cropping up.

Nord users have taken to Reddit and the OnePlus Community, complaining of Bluetooth connectivity issues. The smartphone reportedly drops connection within a few minutes of pairing with a device preventing users from listening to music and answering calls on their wireless earphones.

OnePlus Nord users facing Bluetooth connectivity issues

Interestingly, some users have reported the issue happens only when the smartphone is connected to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. With a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection, the Bluetooth works just fine. Quite weird for that to happen.

OnePlus is yet to acknowledge the issue, and going by precedence, the company usually does, and works on a fix that it issues via a software update. But here’s the thing. If a brand claims of consistent updates, but most of the updates are bug fixes, should it be considered a good thing or a bad thing?

“We are using Amazon’s deep expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning to offer customers a new way to discover, adopt and maintain personalised wellness habits,” Amazon Halo's principal medical officer Dr Maulik Majmudar said.

The Amazon Halo is the latest wristband from the online retail giant

Amazon Halo is now at Early Access for people in the US and is priced at just $65 (roughly Rs 5,800) that also includes a six-month membership to AI-computed analysis. After the Early Access period is over, the wristband will be sold at $99.99 (roughly Rs 7,350) while the monthly cost of membership will be $4 (roughly Rs 300).

The Halo is Amazon’s answer to the wildly popular Apple Watch and Fitbit bands, and tries to stay different by employing new, never-before-seen features on a smartband. For one, there’s no display on the Halo, and is just a normal-looking grey wristband. But this seemingly innocent looking band houses a host of sensors that tracks the wearer’s activities, sleep patterns, and more.

The Halo wristband detects your intensity of exercise, and can differentiate between walking and running. There’s an always-on microphone that listens to the wearer’s voice to determine the emotional state. The wristband can apparently if you sound calm, tired, happy, sad or excited. There’s also an Android and iOS app for Amazon Halo which uses the smartphone camera to scan your body to tell you how much body fat you have, and even show a projection of what you would look like without all that fat.

Realme 7, 7 Pro to launch in India on September 3: 65W charging, Punch-hole display and more confirmed

The Realme 7 and 7 Pro smartphones are going to launch in India on September 3 at an online event scheduled at 12:30 PM. The smartphones are already listed on Flipkart, indicating that these will be sold exclusively on the e-commerce platform. The listing also reveals the launch date and some key features of the upcoming mid-rangers.

I enjoyed #BuildingTheFaster7 for you guys. It's time to unveil #realme7 & #realme7Pro and let you guys #CaptureSharperChargeFaster! The good news is that India’s Fastest Charging Smartphone now comes to the best mid-range Flagship. Watch the launch live at 12:30PM, 3rd Sep. pic.twitter.com/eptFpEHYCZ

— Madhav Faster7 (@MadhavSheth1) August 27, 2020

The biggest attraction about the upcoming Realme 7 series is perhaps the support for 65W charging for the first time in this segment. The technology actually debuted on the flagship Realme X50 Pro 5G, and will now be introduced in the under-20k segment. In all likeliness, the Realme 7 Pro will be one supporting the fast charging speeds and if this convinces you enough, you can also place a blind order of the smartphones from today, i.e August 27 to September 2 on the Realme website. Users will have to pay Rs 1,000 to book a unit, and once the remaining balance is paid between September 3 to 15, the smartphone will be shipped to the buyer. Doing so, Realme 7 buyers will get an additional Rs 100 off as coupon to use while purchasing IoT products on the Realme website, while Realme 7 and 7 Pro buyers will get anywhere between Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 off on other products.

You can take a look at this video to know how fast 65W of power charges a 4200mAh battery -

The Flipkart listing of the smartphone shows a punch-hole display on the front that debuted in the Realme 6 series. More details about the smartphones will be shared on Flipkart on August 28th, which is tomorrow. But in case you can’t wait to know more, there are leaks and rumours to fill the gap.

Realme 7 Pro Rumoured Specifications

Based on previous reports, the Realme 7 Pro will come with a 4450mAh battery, which shouldn’t take more than an hour to top up using the 65W charger. Furthermore, Realme is also all set to shed the vertical camera module at the back, and opt for a rectangular camera module, much like the Galaxy S20 series. The 64MP quad camera stack is expected to make a comeback, and while there’s no confirmation or a leak, it’s unlikely that Realme will dial down the refresh rate after hitting the 90Hz mark with both the Realme 6 and 6 Pro before this.

The chipsets powering the upcoming Realme 7 series is still a mystery. Ideally, the Realme 7 Pro should upgrade to the Snapdragon 730G, while the Realme 7 should choose the next best MediaTek chipset, going by previous trends.

Meanwhile, do revisit our coverage of the Realme 6 Pro to know what to expect from its successor.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to launch on November 13

Activision has finally revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War after teasing us with a trailer last week. This year’s Call of Duty is being co-developed by Treyarch and Raven. This is Treyarch’s 6th Call of Duty game and 5th in the Black Ops mini-franchise, which has been very successful.

The game is set to hit the markets on November 13 across PC, Xbox One and PS4. Activision has also confirmed that the game will be released on the next-generation consoles during ‘Holiday 2020.’ They are also offering a cross-gen bundle which includes a copy of the game for both generations of consoles for an extra $10 at $69.99, meaning players who purchase this can play the game on both PS4 and PS5 or Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Single Player Campaign

After not developing a single-player campaign mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Raven has confirmed this game will feature a traditional campaign set during the 1980s in the middle of the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been confirmed to be a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and we will see iconic characters like Alex Woods, Frank Mason and Jason Hudson play a major role in the story. We will also see real historical figures like the then US President, Ronald Reagan, making an appearance in the narrative. The teaser trailer we saw last week and the campaign mode trailer we saw last night, both point to the story revolving around ‘Perseus’, a soviet spy who infiltrated the US government.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launch on November 13

This will be the first Call of Duty in which players will get to create their own characters from scratch. Interestingly, players can choose to take a ‘psyche profile’, which determines how your characters would react in certain situations and give you attributes and perks which will directly affect gameplay.

The campaign would also be interactive meaning players will decide which missions they want to take and how to complete them. These decisions will have direct implications on the story and lead to one of the multiple campaign endings. Players can also choose to do side missions which will be tied in with the main storyline.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer

Just like every CoD, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will have a 6v6 multiplayer game mode. Activision has confirmed that this game will not just feature cross-play like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but cross-gen too. This means that if you own a PS4, you can play with your friends who own the PS5.

Activision has also announced plans for an open beta for those who pre-order the game soon. Like CoD Modern Warfare, the beta will likely be available to PS4 players first, as part of their deal with PlayStation. Leaks suggest that the beta period will start on September 12, right after the Multiplayer reveal on September 9.

Call of Duty: Warzone

Activision has promised that Call of Duty: Warzone will live on with future games in the franchise. This comes after the game was heavily teased on the Verdansk map for weeks. For the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a treasure hunt event was also organized in the Battle Royale game mode.

Because of this close link with Warzone, Activision has decided that it will incorporate shared progression across CoD Black Ops Cold War and CoD Modern Warfare, which means that players will be able to transition their account from one game to the other and carry-over their operator skins and gun blueprints to the next game. In fact, those who pre-order the game will receive digital rewards, including Black Ops operator Frank Woods for both Warzone and CoD: Modern Warfare.

It will be fascinating to know how Warzone handles aspects of the game that were a part of Modern Warfare which will not be present in this year’s game. Activision and Treyarch have confirmed we will get to know more about Warzone at a later date.

Zombies

Zombies mode has been a mainstay in the Black Ops series and is confirmed to continue in this year’s game too. We don’t much about this mode yet, but Treyarch and Raven plan to reveal more, closer to the release date.

In other news, Infinity Ward recently pushed a massive update to Call of Duty: Warzone which features new guns, game modes and more. Click here to check it out. To know more about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, click here.

Facebook News could launch in India in the next few months

After launching the service in US as a pilot program, Facebook now plans on expanding Facebook news to more countries starting with India, Brazil, France, Germany and UK in the coming months. The social media giant said it would pay publishers to “ensure their content is available in the new product”.

Facebook said it looked at the progress made by the product in the US, and planned to expand the service to more users in the next 6 to 12 months. Facebook assured that they would be paying publishers in each country it launches the service. Facebook currently pays more than 200 US media outlets for content including original reporting from thousands of local news organisations. Facebook said it plans to turn Facebook news a “valuable asset” in the long term by remaining committed to the partnerships it has developed with publishers.

With over 2.7 billion active users, Facebook commands perhaps the largest reach for any social network, and has increasingly come under the radar of authorities and regulators for spreading misinformation and fake news among readers, as well as for stifling competition. Following such criticism, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had promised to ensure Facebook offers trustworthy information from high-quality news outlets. Facebook News seems to be culmination of that promise.

How does Facebook News work?

For the end users, Facebook News shows up as a dedicated tab in the Facebook app. Here, users have control to hide articles, publishers and sections they’re not interested in, and discover new topics and stories based on the news they read, share and follow. Facebook News also presents the top headlines and stories of the day along with personalised content to the user. Currently, Facebook has over 200 news outlets in the US, including a lot of local news organisations which enable local news delivered to the concerned users living nearby.

After launch, Facebook news can be accessed by selecting the News section from the menu, or by searching Facebook News in the Search Bar in the Facebook app. The service is only available on Android and iOS devices in the US presently. There’s no word on a web version for it though.

Asus Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro launched: Pricing and specifications

Asus Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro have launched officially in Taiwan. Successors to last year’s Asus Zenfone 6 (Asus 6Z in India), the Zenfone 7 series takes the flip camera system forward, this time with three cameras on the back. The Zenfone 7 series is as flagship as it gets with the regular Zenfone 7 rocking a Snapdragon 865 chip while the 7 Pro comes with a Snapdragon 865 Plus processor.

Asus has also worked on its flip camera mechanism and the new Zenfone 7 series is equipped with a more powerful stepping motor than the Zenfone 6 with upto twice the torque and a new angle sensor that controls the flip angle accurately. Let’s take a brief look at the specifications and pricing of the Zenfone 7 series.

Asus Zenfone 7 series pricing

Asus Zenfone 7 is priced at NT$ 21,990 for the 6GB+128GB variant while the Zenfone 7 Pro will be up for grabs at NT$ 27,990 for the 8GB+256GB variant.

These prices roughly translate to a starting price of around Rs 55,000 for the Zenfone 7 and Rs 70,000 for the Zenfone 7 Pro. Though, there’s currently no word on the launch of Asus Zenfone 7 in India. Global availability is also slated to be announced later this week.

Asus Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro specifications

Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro largely share the same set of specifications and features. The only differentiating factor is that the Zenfone 7 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and the Zenfone 7 Pro comes with Snapdragon 865 Plus. The new Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset has an improved 10 per cent performance over the Snapdragon 865 which means that the prime core can now run at up to 3.1GHz clock speeds with 10% boost in graphics rendering.

Both phones have the same aluminium built and a design that measures 9.6 millimetres in thickness and 230 grams in weight. The rear panel is coated with a layer of Gorilla Glass 3. The Zenfone 7 series features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that uses an AMOLED panel with a 90Hz high-refresh-rate and is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 6.

The Zenfone 7 is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage while there is another variant that comes with 8GB RAM. As for the Zenfone 7 Pro, it comes in a single variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phones support microSD card expansion by upto 2TB. The Zenfone 7 series runs on Android 10 based ZenUI 7 out-of-the-box.

The Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro comes with a triple camera setup housed within the flip camera mechanism. It has a 64MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 113-degree field-of-view. The cameras can record in 8K UHD at 30FPS and 4K UHD in upto 120FPS. The Zenfone 7 comes with support for 3-axis electronic image stabilization while the Zenfone 7 Pro comes with 4-axis optical image stabilization.

The phones come with the basic set of sensors and connectivity features like Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The Zenfone 7 series is fitted with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. Asus claims that its fast charging standard can fill the battery from 0-100% in 93 minutes.

FitBit Sense, Versa 3 and Inspire 2 officially announced

FitBit has today announced three new wearable devices globally, and also announced their availability in India. This would be FitBit’s first portfolio of devices after they were bought out by Google in November of last year for $2.1 Billion. The three devices in question had had their press renders leaked, revealing the devices to the world. What the leak didn’t include is an exhaustive list of features, which we now have.

FitBit Sense Features and Specifications

FitBit Sense is the new flagship tracker from the company, potentially a replacement for last year’s Ionic (Review). The new FitBit Sense comes with a number of new features, both hardware and software. The FitBit Sense comes with an EDA sensor that is used to track and manage user stress. FitBit claims this is the first for any wearable device, a tall claim given that most flagship wearables like the Apple Watch (Review), Samsung Galaxy Watch and even wearables by Garmin like the Instinct (Review) offer fairly robust stress tracking. It would be interesting to see how FitBit’s implementation will be different from others. In addition to the EDA sensor for stress tracking, the FitBit Sense also comes with the ability to record ECG. FitBit claims that its PurePulse 2.0 technology which makes up the new heart-rate sensor should be able to detect atrial fibrillation. Last of the new features includes a skin temperature sensor which is capable of detecting early onset of fever or the beginning of the menstrual cycle.

FitBit Versa 3 Features and Specifications

Dual-screen LG Wing surfaces in live video, shows a second screen perpendicular to the main display

There have been ongoing rumours about a certain dual-display LG ‘Wing’ smartphone that allegedly relies on a swivelling second display. And thanks to folks over at Android Authority, the smartphone has made a live appearance showing its superpowers. You can watch the video below —

The publication claims this is a near-final build and shows the LG Wing’s dual displays can be used in portrait orientation, or in a T-shape where one screen is in portrait, and another in landscape orientation. In the video, the LG Wing is being used for full-screen navigation on the main screen with music playback controls in the second screen. An incoming call also comes to the second screen without interrupting the contents on the primary display.

Interestingly, the second display is much smaller in size due to engineering constraints and it flips out from the bottom of the primary display, sitting perpendicular to it. As a result, what you see is a traditional 20:9 display with a secondary 1:1 display on the side. This is information claimed by the publication, but not shown in the video.

LG Wing Rumoured Specs

The LG Wing is rumoured to come with a 6.8-inch primary display and a 4-inch secondary display, and could be powered by the Snapdragon 765 or the 765G. And the new design raises new use cases, but it remains to be how useful LG makes it. There are possibilities of shifting notifications entirely to the second screen, or use it as a gamepad, or as shown in the video, become a nice mounted unit for the car. Either way, it is clearly one of the most exciting smartphone designs we have seen in action this year. LG has been pursuing dual-display smartphone designs for the past few years, even as its domestic rival is still bullish on foldable displays. Using a hinge setup, LG brought a dual-screen smartphone in the form of the LG G8X in India, while the LG V50 (first impressions) had come out before that. So it's clear where the inspiration is coming from, and with the LG Wing, the company isn't shying away from experimenting with new form factors, something we direly need for the smartphone market.

PlayStation is hiring people to play video games, but you may need to be fluent in a specific language

If you are someone who wants to play video games all day long and get paid for it, then you are not alone. But if you are looking to get a stable job with a gaming company that requires you to play games all day long, then you are in luck, if you live in Liverpool that is. PlayStation is looking for a localization tester for Portuguese, the language spoken in Brazil. This means that in addition to being good at playing games, you also need to speak Portuguese fluently. The description of the job is as follows

Localization testing:

Test software to ensure all localized assets are correct from linguistic, consistency and display points of view.

Localized assets review:

Proof-read and correct translations before they are implemented into the games, ensuring that quality, accuracy and consistency is maintained.

Translation work:

Occasionally provide translations for games, the packaging text for console and peripherals.

Other duties:

Assist other teams with general testing duties when required Assist with project and process related tasks

Skills, knowledge and experience:

Fluency in English and one or more languages Passionate games player Good knowledge of computer games across multiple platforms Working knowledge of MS Office package Basic understanding of the development cycle and constraint

Game testing and localization isn’t a new job in the world of gaming. Since games are played worldwide and people may prefer to play the game in their native language, localization is key to the appeal of a game in some markets. We haven’t seen too many games localized for Indian languages yet, which is a bummer.

If you are one that’s looking to make gaming into a profession then competitive gaming is the place to be. If you don't think your skills match up to the rest online, then you can always turn to game streaming as there are a lot in India who have made a career out of game streaming.

In other PlayStation news, Sony is looking to launch the PS5 towards the end of 2020 and you can read more about the console here.

Nintendo could release an upgraded Switch in 2021: Report

According to a Bloomberg report, we could see an upgrade to the Nintendo Switch in 2021. Nintendo first launched the Switch in 2017 and it still is a great choice for those that want to play on the big screen and carry their console for a portable experience. The current Switch is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra X1 chip accompanied by 4GB of RAM. In 2019, Nintendo updated the Switch with a slightly better calibrated display and longer battery life and also introduced a handheld only version of the switch called the Nintendo Switch Lite. During the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite, it was rumoured that the company is working on a more powerful version of the Switch console.

The upcoming Switch will be more powerful than the current one and will be capable of 4K graphics, according to the rumours. Does this mean we will see a more powerful docking station to enable 4K graphics while keeping the handheld graphics lower, remains to be seen. It also looks like the release of some key games is being held back for the new console to give it a strong line-up of games at launch.

Nintendo launching its console in 2021 makes a lot of sense especially when you consider the fact that the Switch Lite is only a year old. Microsoft and Sony are launching their 4K capable gaming consoles, the Xbox Series X and PS5 towards the end of 2020 and it looks like after the initial dust of the two consoles settles, we will Nintendo grab eyeballs.

It’s safe to say that the Nintendo Switch is a very popular console especially when you consider that as of June 2020, the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite have sold more than 61 million units worldwide. Nintendo does not have any official presence in India, but the Switch and its games are quite popular in the country.

Speaking of the next-gen consoles, it looks like the price of the PS5 and Series X has leaked yet again and you can read more about that here.

Some Chinese smartphones are shipping with malware that aims to steal your money

According to Secure-D and BuzzFeed News, the low-cost Tecno W2 smartphone has shipped with a malware that subscribes to paid services to steal the user’s money. The budget smartphone sells in African countries like Egypt, Ghana, and South Africa along with Indonesia and Myanmar.

The malware in question here is the Triada and xHelper software. It silently downloads and subscribes to apps which are paid services. This causes the user to have not only high bills but high consumption of data as well. The thing is, this budget smartphone is attractive to the poorer section of society, those looking for budget smartphone offerings. The biggest downside is that this malware cannot be removed even by factory resetting the smartphone.

According to Android Authority, “Transsion, the China-based company behind the Tecno brand, has pinned the malware on an unnamed “vendor in the supply chain process.” It said that it delivered fixes for Triada in March 2018 and xHelper in late 2019. However, the issue doesn’t appear to have gone away. Secure-D said it was still blocking Triada and xHelper on Transsion phones through April 2020, and it may simply be dormant”.

This isn’t the first time the malware has made an appearance. According to Secure-D, the pre-installed malware was previously discovered on Alcatel phones made by TCL in markets like Brazil, Malaysia, and Nigeria.

Kenneth Adu-Amanfoh, the executive director of the Africa Cybersecurity and Digital Rights Organization told BuzzFeed, “You have all these wonderful features for cheap, but there is a hidden cost. There are a lot of Chinese phones that have malware installed on it.”

According to the BuzzFeed report, “People in the United States are also being exploited. Earlier this year, Malwarebytes, a security service, found preinstalled malware of Chinese origin in two phones offered to citizens with low incomes as part of the US government’s Lifeline program, which provides subsidized phones and mobile data. Both phones were made by Chinese companies.”

In case you were wondering how severe the malware is, the security firm Secure-D has “blocked 844,000 transactions connected to preinstalled malware on Transsion phones between March and December 2019”.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, everyone is resorting to staying indoors and this has led to educational institutes and offices move to a study from home and work from home model. The lower-income group of society has resorted to budget smartphones to ensure they can stay connected and their children can participate in online classes.

Chinese brand Huawei is under scrutiny for spying and the world is moving towards banning TikTok for security reasons. In India, local manufacturing is looking to ramp up as local consumers have an anti-China sentiment due to the recent tensions on the border. Brands like Micromax are looking to make a comeback in India while Apple is not only beginning the production of the iPhone SE 2020 in India but also looking to Assemble its upcoming iPhone 12 in India by the middle of 2021.

PUBG Mobile to introduce New Era: Heres how to watch the announcement live

PUBG Mobile will be announcing something pretty big today. The company says that it will be introducing a “New Era” for the game. The announcement is scheduled for August 24, 1330UTC, which is 7:00OM IST today and will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube. Details of the announcement have not yet been revealed, but it's safe to assume that it should include Erangle 2.0, which was released in the beta version of the game a few weeks back.

We humbly request your presence as we announce a New Era for PUBG MOBILE! Join us on August 24th for an AWESOME announcement on YouTube and Facebook! #pubgmnewera #neweraannouncement https://t.co/O5Q4sryFFg pic.twitter.com/jvA64TsrCN

It should be noted that the Erangel 2.0 update also finally updated the same to v1.0.0, which should also suggest that the game is finally considered to be a finished product by the developers. So expect a host of other announcements as well as other wholesale changes to the game. PUBG Mobile announced Erangel 2.0 back in July last year and since then the map has been stuck in development. Since then, the developers launched Miramar 2.0, but Erangel 2.0 was still missing. Now though, it looks like PUBG Mobile players will finally get to experience Erangel 2.0.

Of course, PUBG Mobile won’t be the only mobile game to undergo major changes this month. Call of Duty: Mobile recently got the Season 9 Conquest update and with it came a slew of changes. Most notable was a complete overhaul of weapon customisation. Unlike the previous version where players usually ended up with multiple versions of the same weapon, each at different levels, the new Gunsmith addition streamlined the whole thing by offering only base weapons, and every different variant being camos or blueprints. So players only levelled up a base weapon as a whole. Not only that, but it also added multiple weapon attachments as well as various other aesthetic attachments like stickers and charms. It also increased the loadout count from five to ten. You can learn more about Gunsmith here.
