Battlegrounds Mobile India BGMI may return to Google Play Store in January 2023

The wildly-popular battle royale mobile game, BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India), was banned in India by the government earlier this year. Krafton had previously assured its player base that it is working to bring the game back to India, but there's been no update on that front yet. However, Chicken Dinner lovers would be pleased to know the game could be making its way back on the Google Play Store.

According to AFKGaming, BGMI content creators Pratik "Alpha Clasher" Jogiya and Sohail "Hector" Shaikh claim that Battlegrounds Mobile India is returning to Android a.k.a. the Google Play Store very soon. The game will allegedly be playable on Android once again in India on January 15.

BGMI returning to the Google Play Store in January 2023

BGMI is allegedly returning to Android phones in India once again. BGMI content creators Pratik "Alpha Clasher" Jogiya and Sohail "Hector" Shaikh have both confirmed this. In Alpha Clasher's recent livestream, a player with the in-game name "predatorsasuke" joined the stream and claimed to have information regarding the relaunch of BGMI.

He claimed to have worked at Google and shared a tentative relaunch date of BGMI. He said, "You’d be very happy, BGMI will launch on Google Play Store on 15th January; it is a tentative date."

BGMI could be returning to the Google Play Store in January 2023

Not too long after Alpha's livestream, Hector also confirmed the timeline – revealing that BGMI is allegedly scheduled to return in January. He said, "The game is going to return in January, someone from Google said this. I don’t know this personally, but I have heard this. That person is someone important in the Google community; he is someone in a leadership position. It doesn’t matter if someone from the gaming community says that the game will return. That person said that the game would return on 15th January."

Do take all this information with a grain of salt since nothing concrete has been confirmed by Krafton or Google.

Apple set to change its pricing strategy for iPhone 15 Plus: Know why

After dropping the Mini iPhone from its lineup this year, Apple brought back the once fabled, Plus phones, launching the iPhone 14 Plus as a part of its latest line of phones in September. However, as per reports, the poor sales of the iPhone 14 Plus have forced Apple to take a different route with this year’s launches. This problem has reportedly affected the iPhone 14 as well.

The iPhone 14 Plus, at the time of launch, was positioned to fill the gap between the base iPhone 14 and the Pro models. The main difference between the base iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus was the bigger battery capacity and a larger 6.7-inch screen compared to the 6.1-inch screen of the base iPhone 14. As it turns out though, these differences were not enough to drive the sales of the device when it hit the stores.

Two ways out, only one to pick

 iPhone 15 Plus

To make sure that the iPhone 15 Plus does not report similar sales numbers, Apple executives have reportedly laid out a definitive plan for the next launch cycle. As per a blog post by yeux1122, Apple has two plans in the works. The first one aims to decrease the difference between the Pro and the base model iPhone. The post says the base iPhone 15 would come with the dynamic island. In the iPhone 14 line, it had been reserved for the Pro and Pro Max models.

The second plan is to change the pricing of the devices. While there was no clear indication of how the pricing will change, it has been reported that a new pricing model will be adopted with the launch of the new iPhones. There is also going to be a change in materials and camera parts between the Pro and the Max models of the iPhones as well!

The Plus models of the iPhone are not the only ones to have reflected below than expected numbers. As stated earlier in the article, the Mini phones that were introduced with the iPhone 12 line were discontinued after the launch of the iPhone 13(s) owing to a similar problem. With the Plus models also headed down the same road, it will be interesting to see where they end a couple of years down the line.

Realme GT Neo 5 design and key specifications leaked

This leaked poster has been circulating around on Weibo and it shows the possible design and key specifications of the upcoming Realme GT Neo 5. Realme GT Neo 5 design and key specifications leaked

Additionally, it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, according to the poster. We can assume this would be paired with up to 16 GB RAM and up to 512 GB ROM. Realme GT Neo 5 expected specifications

Aside from the leaked information in the poster, the Realme GT Neo 5 is expected to house a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate support and an under-display fingerprint sensor. It is expected to come with Android 13 out of the box with Realme UI 4.0 on top.

Apple iPad Mini 7 could hit markets in 2023: Kuo

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, a known Apple analyst, there’s going to be a new Apple product releasing next year - the Apple iPad Mini. Based on his musings, Apple may be launching this product and then may eventually launch a foldable iPad too (a product that’s been the center of many rumours for a while now).

New iPad Mini to launch next year

Kuo tweeted recently that the brand will launch the iPad mini which will be equipped with a new processor. The launch is believed to take place by the end of 2023 or early 2024. The brand has not revealed any details about the upcoming processor, however, many are speculating that it could be a next-gen A series or M series chip.

Upcoming iPad Mini price

The iPad Mini price will depend entirely on the chipset used. If it does use an M series chip, then it may end up being as expensive as the iPad Air and iPad Pro models that also use M1 and M2 chips.

The Apple iPad mini released last year worked on the A15 Bionic chipset and had a flat edge design. It also offered 5G support, Touch ID, and the 2nd generation Apple Pencil.

Apple foldable iPad

Kuo also mentioned the alleged foldable iPad, saying that it will not be intended as a replacement for the iPad mini. Rumours indicate that Apple may launch a foldable iPad in 2024 and eventually venture into the foldable smartphone market in 2025.

LG smartphone camera module with true optical telephoto zoom teased ahead of CES 2023

LG quit making smartphones a while back, but the company has been manufacturing smartphone components for a while now. LG Innotek arm announced a periscope-style true optical zoom camera module that offers a 4-9 times telephoto range. The result of this is that it can help the cameras retain a proper image quality even when zooming.

We should be seeing phones packing this LG zoom camera at CES 2023, which is going to start from January 3. Although the names of the phones are not known yet, here’s what this camera tech can contribute to their overall offering:

LG true optical telephoto zoom: Why is this a big deal?

LG smartphone camera module

Samsung had earlier created a camera module that was known as a folded lens. This was used in the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphone that offers a 4x zoom. LG Innotek had created a similar version of this zoom module for the Xperia 1 IV smartphone.

Typically, smartphone cameras tend to utilise hybrid zoom setups. These setups work by combining digital zoom along with multiple camera modules. In some cases, such as 2x, 3x, 10x, smartphones leverage different lenses. They also use digital zoom to accommodate intermediary zooms like 2.5x, 4.5x, etc.

LG optical zoom Camera: How does it work?

small smartphone camera module

LG's "Optical Zoom Camera," comes with a zoom actuator that has movable components, that can be quite close to what you'd seen on a zoom lens in a mirrorless or DSLR camera. The lens itself works quickly and is said to be accurate right down to the micrometer, according to the brand. It also helps with saving on battery. The camera also comes with a built-in optical image stabilizer that is meant to help reduce blur.

Oppo Find N2 Flip spotted on certification websites indicating a global launch

Oppo recently debuted the Find N2 series at the OPPO INNO day 2022 in China. There were two models that were launched together which were the Find N2 and Find N2 Flip. Now, if fresh findings by MySmartPrice are to be believed, the Oppo Find N2 Flip could make its way to the global markets. And while there may be no official confirmation about this, it could hit the store shelves as soon as the first quarter of 2023.

 Oppo Find N2 Flip

While details are awaited, an Oppo smartphone which may be the Find N2 Flip has been spotted on certification websites such as FCC and the Bluetooth SIG. This suspicion was aroused in the first place because the listing reveals the length and breadth of the device as 166.2 to 75.2 mm which is similar to the measurements of the Find N2 Flip whilst in an unfolded state. Other than that the listing also has images of the schematics and images of the film which makes the doubt of the phone being a Find N2 Flip stronger.

Oppo Find N2 Flip specs (Expected)

Oppo foldable

Based on the Chinese model of this phone, we think the global model could sport a 6.8-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen may have a hole-punch cutout for a 32MP front camera.

The phone could come with 12GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC, and a 4300 mAh battery that comes with a 44W fast charger out of the box.

The government of India has officially accepted e-Sports as part of the multisport event category in the country under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This distinguishes it from the broader term — Gaming. The Centre identifies e-Sports as a competitive sport involving participants contesting in terms of both physical and mental abilities, albeit in a digital environment.

The Indian government has officially recognised e-sports in the country. E-sports will now be a part of the “multisports event” category in India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports.

— ANI (@ANI) December 27, 2022 e-Sports recognition: What this means for the state of Esports and gaming in India

The notification for the same was rolled out on December 23rd, 2022 marked on memo No: S.O.6062(E).

As per the official gazette issued by the GOI, e-Sports will be added to the Department of Sports (Khel Vibhag), which in itself comes under the purview of “Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Yuvak Karyakram Aur Khel Mantralaya).

Besides this, in the notification release, we can see that “matters relating to online gaming” now fall under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

In recent years, e-Sports has seen a massive surge in popularity and adoption in the country. This is partly thanks to the penetration of affordable internet and more accessible digital education and connectivity. As you know, both our government and private organizations have played a key role in all of this.

For the growth of the industry, the Indian government has set up the e-Sports Federation of India (ESFI) is also allotting a share of its budget to the support and development of esports infrastructure like esports training centres and ensuring funds for esports events.

As mentioned already, we can't discount the involvement of private bodies in the growth of the esports industry. This could be in the form of organizing, marketing, and sponsoring e-Sports events and tournaments.

e-Sports

So, some of the private stakeholders in the e-Sports industry have come forward with comments on this latest piece of news. Here’s what they have to say:

“Great news for us to begin the New Year. We have been constantly working on establishing the difference between esports and iGaming, and finally, our efforts have been fulfilled. We welcome this announcement by our government under the leadership of Hon'ble PM Modi ji, which will open new avenues to pour in more investment opportunities in this booming industry. From now onwards, we will have to build the proper infrastructure, training facilities and coaching for our young esports athletes. Only a short time until we see Esports being placed in the same league as cricket, football, basketball, etc. and having similar fan power, scale and craze, ” says Mr Lokesh Suji, Director, Esports Federation of India & Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF).

He finds this a promising development for the e-Sports scene in the coming year. He adds, “With the latest announcement and India recently competing for medals at the inaugural Esports Asian Games, people are shaking off the misconceptions linked with esports as a passion or career option. The year 2023 beholds greater opportunities for esports and we are anticipating more favourable developments, only making it bigger. It surely has been a great year for Indian esports”.

Meanwhile, a prominent figure in the scene, Mr Animesh Agarwal, founder & CEO, 8bit Creatives & an ex-esports athlete, says, “The entire Esports fraternity in India will be rejoicing with this welcome news which has certainly been a result of the gaming community's collective efforts spanning over the last few years. Esports have already been considered as a medal sport in the Olympics and Asian games and this news will further boost the sport in the country as it was long overdue. The industry inclusive of developers, players and creators as a whole is growing at a fast pace and to come full-circle this recognition will be very thriving for the industry. It presents a clean slate for gamers and proves to neigh-sayers that Esports is, in fact, a serious sport that deserves to be recognised for its skilled and hard-working players who will be competing against some of the world's best players and put India on the map of professional gaming countries”.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has defined standards for the USB Type-C charging port, now that the government is all set to introduce common charging ports for wearable electronic devices and mobiles. Department of Consumer Affairs is mandating common charging ports in order to make things more convenient for users and to reduce e-waste. As a result of this, one will see the same charging ports for tablets, smartphones, and electronic wearables.

The government is mandating common chargers

BIS USB-C

Speaking about the new mandate, the Consumer Affairs Secretary, Rohit Kumar Singh, said to PTI "In the last meeting, a broad consensus had emerged among stakeholders on the adoption of USB Type – C as a charging port for, smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc. The BIS has notified standards for Type C charger,"

He also confirmed that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kanpur is working on studying the feasibility of the single charging port, and will be supporting a report to the government.

Why is the government mandating the common chargers?

 USB Type-C

Speaking about the need to mandate the common chargers, the Secretary said, "We have to align with the European Union (EU) timeline i.e. 2024 because the mobile and electronics makers have a global supply chain and they don't supply to India alone."

New Samsung Galaxy F-Series smartphone to launch in India in January Could possibly be Galaxy F14

Samsung is all set to launch a new F-Series smartphone in India in the month of January. According to exclusive information by 91mobiles, the new F-Series phone might probably be the Samsung Galaxy F14, a much-awaited successor to the Galaxy F13. The phone is said to debut in the first week of January, so Samsung might start teasing its latest launch in the next few days.

The phone will be available on the Samsung e-store, but other than that, it will be exclusively sold via Flipkart. According to the sources of 91mobiles, it is unclear whether Samsung Galaxy F14 will support 5G network connectivity or not.

Since we have no idea whether Galaxy F14 will launch in January or not, we will take a look at the specifications of its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy F13, because the phone might surpass its specifications.

Samsung Galaxy F13 specifications

Samsung Galaxy F13

The Galaxy F13 has a 6.6-inch Full-HD+ LCD display with a waterdrop cutout for the front camera. The phone is powered by the Exynos 850 processor, which is paired with Mali G52, 4GB RAM, and up to 128GB storage. The storage can be further expanded using a microSD card. RAM expansion is also possible in the Galaxy F13.

The Galaxy F13 has Android 12-based OneUI 4.0 custom skin, with connectivity options including 4G network connectivity, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. It does not have a headphone port. It also has a beefy 6,000mAh battery and has 15W fast charging support, with a fingerprint sensor mounted on the side for security.

The Galaxy F13 has a triple rear camera setup, with a 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro shooter. The front camera is 8MP.

We are hoping for these specifications to be improved in the new phone that is launching in January.

YouTube will let you use text prompts to search within videos: Here is how it works

Google announced a new Youtube feature at the Google for India 2022 event that lets users input text prompts to search for specific moments in a video. When you search for a topic on Google and are presented with a related video, you must watch the entire video to reach the point with the information you’re looking for. Google is now trying to simplify this experience by letting users search within the videos via text prompts.

How does Youtube’s Search in Video feature work?

Google Search currently displays YouTube videos with highlighted sections that show the part of the video that correlates with your search query. These key moments may not always give you all the answers you’re looking for, which is where the new ‘search in video’ comes into play. On selecting the feature, you need to enter a text prompt related to what you’re looking for, and the video will start playing from the desired moment.

This feature has not started rolling out to all users yet but will be done soon.

Koo migrate feature allows you to import all your tweets from Twitter and more

Koo, the Indian Twitter alternative is introducing a ‘migrate’ feature that lets you transfer all your tweets from Twitter to Koo. With this new feature, Koo co-founder and CEO Aprameya Radhakrishna aim to help you to escape "intellectual assassination" caused by account suspensions on Twitter at the whims and fancies of Elon Musk.

New Koo feature: Tweet migration tool

Twitter

Go to Koo settings, there is a migrate button. Click on it and follow the on-screen instructions and all your tweets will be moved to Koo.

Note that replies, likes and reshares are not migrated.

Well, it’s not just tweets but also all accounts followed by the migrating user will also be transferred, provided they are available on Koo, to begin with.

Speaking on the Elon-Twitter situation to Press Trust of India (via Yourstory), Mr Radhakrishna says, "it is unimaginable that in this day and age, one man has the ability to wipe out your digital existence and remove all traces of your creativity. History and creativity cannot be held hostage to a $44 billion, billionaire's toy".

"Koo provides everyone with an equal opportunity to express themselves in a language of choice and preserve their thoughts and opinions for all times to come. So go ahead, escape Twitter and engage in a platform that truly sets you free," he adds.

Meanwhile, Mayank Bidawatka has also shared his concern over the way Twitter is being run currently.

How does this make sense? Aren't journalists the biggest source of reliable information around the world? Journalists need to be treated with the respect they deserve. At Koo we have a special carousel highlighting journalists and media outlets! pic.twitter.com/G8tUNC3deL

I wearied of the fight says John Carmack, CTO of Metas virtual reality efforts

John Carmack, the CTO for Meta’s virtual reality wing has quit the company. His exit happened on Friday, according to sources who are familiar with Meta’s inner workings. Carmack has been fairly critical about Meta’s advancements so far in the VR and AR space, along with its metaverse ambitions. He posted on the company’s internal Workplace forum to inform people about his decision to leave.

John Carmack leaves Meta

"We built something pretty close to the right thing," Carmack said in the note "The issue is our efficiency.” He also added that he was ‘wearied of the fight’ with Meta. Meta acquired Oculus back in 2014, and then changed the name of the brand to Meta Quest, in spite of the fact that Oculus was already one of the most popular and best-known VR headsets. Palmer Luckey founded Oculus in 212 and Carmack joined as the first CTO in 2013.

"I have my own startup to run, but the fight is still winnable!" Carmack added in his note. "Maybe it is actually possible to get there by just ploughing ahead with current practices, but there is plenty of room for improvement. Make better decisions and fill your products with 'Give a Damn!'"

The new feature is still being tested at the moment and will roll out to the masses soon. It offers three options - Blend, Familiar, and Discover. Users can select the artists they want to listen to so that the app knows about their preferences. Once this is done, you can set up a few more filters like Upbeat, Focus, Downbeat, Pump-up, Deep cuts, new releases, and popular. 5 AI Art Generators you should check out

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have been making headlines lately, showing people just how many feats these tools are capable of. The latest in a line of new tools comes in the form of AI art generators that create beautiful works of art once you input text describing exactly what you want. You may have heard of OpenAI’s DALL-E, but guess what, there are quite a few other tools in the market that are just as capable.

So, if you're looking to make some cool artwork, check out these tools:

1. Dream Studio (Stable Diffusion)

Stable Diffusion happens to be one of the most popular text-to-art AI generators. This is basically an open-source model that creates images in just a few seconds. It has been trained on 4,000 Nvidia A100 GPUs over a period of a month.

This free-to-use tool only requires a text prompt to create visually stunning images. Its character creation capacities are a little weak, but we can expect it to get better as the tool is still learning.

2. Nightcate

NightCafe is an AI text-to-art generator that is available online. This generator is known for offering a lot of variety when it comes to art forms. It also offers a range of customisation features so that you can alter the output based on your needs. You can also tweak the algorithm used by the AI in order to control the output even further.

3. Pixray

Pixray can be used in the form of a website as well as by installing it on your PC. The tool is also available as an API for developers who want to make AI art Discord bots. Pixray can take close to six minutes to create just one image and it runs on the Nvidia T4 GPU hardware.

4. StarryAI

StarryAI is an app that is available for Android as well as iOS and can generate artwork based on the text you input. It starts by offering you 5 free credits, however, once these are all used up, you’ll have to pay for each output. It can also understand a wide range of prompts, however, it does tend to make mistakes at times.

5. Wonder AI

Wonder AI is a free-to-use app that lets you create as many artworks as you want. The only downside is that it makes users watch a 30-second ad before it generates the art, however considering that it doesn’t ask you to pay for each artwork, this isn’t a big deal. You can always choose to buy the membership plan if you want to get rid of the ads.  Want to create artwork of your face? Check out the Lensa AI app!
