Google allows dinosaurs to roam your house using AR

Google’s ARCore lets you run AR apps on smartphones, but the most accessible AR elements reside in Google Search itself. Google has been ingesting augmented reality versions of popular animals like lions, horses and more in Google Search for quite some time now. The latest addition is straight out of Jurassic Park — Dinosaurs.

Google has collaborated with Universal to bring the fun dinosaurs from Jurassic Park into lifesize form, projected on a flat surface. Google has also added animations and effects like roaring and stomping to make it more immersive.

As of now, you can see dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Pteranodon, and Parasaurolophus, with AR.

The thing about dinosaurs is that they are humongous,  as compared to a lion or a wolf. So fitting them in a small space was a big challenge for Google. The company says it added a new auto-scaling feature to fit them automatically into a space, so you can see them as you move.

Finding these dinosaurs are also easy. You just need to ask for dinosaurs on Search or any of the 10 dinosaurs Google has listed out. It can be viewed on the Google Search app or on the browser of any device running on Android 7 and above. However, you will need a device that supports Google’s ARCore APIs. Otherwise, you will just be seeing them in 3D. You can also check out the dinos in Chrome and Safari on iOS devices running on iOS11 and above.

Both the chipsets are part of the company’s G-series of processors such as the Helio G90, G90T, G85, G80 and G70 that offer an enhanced gaming experience and imaging features.

“Mobile gaming is now the preferred mode of entertainment across market segments, and MediaTek expanded its G-series to meet the huge demand for competitively priced, mainstream gaming smartphones,” said Dr Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager, Wireless Communications Business Unit, MediaTek.

The Helio G35 and G25 chipsets have been crafted on a 12nm FinFET process with an octa-core CPU with speeds upto 2GHz and 2.3GHz for the G25 and G35 respectively. The new chipsets come with PowerVR GE8320 GPUs with MediaTek’s Hyper Engine that offers smart power management for efficient battery life during gameplay sessions.

Microsoft could reveal Xbox Series S in August 2020: Report

If information circulating the internet is to be believed, then we could see the much rumoured less powerful Xbox Series S also known as Lockhart revealed in August 2020. According to the source, “The company was aiming to show off the long-rumoured, more-affordable Xbox Lockhart around June 9. But it pushed those plans all the way to August — at least for now”. So it looks like Microsoft is waiting to showcase the new console, but when Sony held its PS5 reveal event, the company showed off the design of the PS5 along with an all-digital version of the console.

According to Tom Warren from the Verge, “I’ve been reporting on Xbox Lockhart having a slightly underclocked CPU, but I now believe it’s the same speed as Series X. Just different GPU frequencies and CU counts”. So if the CPU is the same, then we can presume that the CPU bottleneck will not be an issue for developers. However, the lower CU counts and GPU frequency means that the console could take a hit on resolution but still deliver the same performance with games. This is quite the different approach when compared to Sony who is giving users the same hardware under the hood, with the only difference being the presence/absence of a Blu-ray drive.

"Obviously, in the name 'Series X,' it gives us the freedom to do other things with that name so that we can create descriptors when we need to," Xbox head Phil Spencer said in December 2019 to Gamespot when the Xbox Series X was first unveiled.

Information about the Lockhart console was also revealed in leaked Microsoft documents. The documents read, “Welcome to the June 2020 Microsoft Game Development Kit (GDK) release. You can use the GDK to develop games that can be certified and approved for release on Windows 10 PCs, Xbox One Consoles, and Project Scarlett consoles. In fact, you can target all those devices using a shared codebase”.

Microsoft is expected to showcase its first-party games at an event in July. We are looking forward to getting a look at gameplay from titles like Hellblade: Senua’s Saga, Halo Infinite and many more.

OnePlus 8 series to go on sale today on Amazon India: Here are the alternatives to consider

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are going on sale later today on Amazon India. The OnePlus 8 series was previously available in limited quantities earlier due to production issues likely caused by the Coronavirus outbreak. However, this afternoon, both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will go on sale on Amazon India and OnePlus India store.

OnePlus 8 series pricing, sale date and launch offers

OnePlus 8 is priced starting at Rs 41,999 for the base variant in Glacial Green colour with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 44,999 and comes in Onyx Black colour. The maxed-out variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is up for grabs in Interstellar Glow and Glacial Green colours and is priced at Rs 49,999.

OnePlus 8 Pro is priced starting at Rs 54,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage while the maxed-out variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is up for grabs at Rs 59,999.

As part of the sale offers, OnePlus is offering a 10 percent discount for CITI Bank cardholders, an instant cashback of Rs 1,000 on Amazon Pay for those who pre-booked the phone, no-cost EMI of up to 12 months with major banks, benefits worth Rs 6,000 with Reliance Jio and six bonus audiobooks by Audible. As part of the OnePlus Red Cable Club, new users will also get six-months extended warranty and 50GB free cloud storage.

OnePlus 8 alternatives

OnePlus 8 is perhaps one of the best mid-range flagship phones to consider if looking for a new smartphone that you can depend upon. However, it’s likely that many people don’t want to spend over Rs 40,000 on a smartphone yet so here are the alternatives you can look at instead.

Realme X50 Pro is available starting at Rs 39,999 and comes packed with the latest Snapdragon 865 chipset as the OnePlus 8 along with 64MP quad cameras on the back and support for 65W fast charging out-of-the-box. The maxed-out variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is available at Rs 47,999 on Flipkart.

The iQOO 3 is one of the most affordable Snapdragon 865 powered smartphones in India as it’s available both in 4G and 5G versions. The iQOO 3 also features an AMOLED screen, a 48MP quad-camera setup but supports 55W fast charging out-of-the-box.

The iQOO 3 starts at Rs 34,999 for the 4G variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage while the 256GB storage option retails for Rs 37,990. The 5G variant has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and is priced at Rs 44,990. There are some cashback offers that buyers can avail which provides cashback of Rs 3,000.

OnePlus 8 Pro alternatives

While the OnePlus 8 Pro features top-of-the-line specifications, there are other flagship smartphones you can consider especially when you’re spending over Rs 50,000 on a mobile phone.

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 10, it’s flagship phone in India with a versatile 108MP camera array, Snapdragon 865 chipset, high refresh rate display and support for fast wired/wireless charging. It starts at Rs 49,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and goes up to Rs 54,999 for the other variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro specifications

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are both powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC and are 5G-capable. OnePlus 8 rocks a 6.5-inch FHD+ 90Hz AMOLED display while the same on the OnePlus 8 Pro is a 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED display measuring 6.7-inches. Both are HDR10+ certified and rock in-display fingerprint sensors and punch-hole selfie cameras.

There's a triple camera setup at the back of the OnePlus 8 including a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, a 16MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro. The OnePlus 8 Pro gets a quad-camera setup with a 48MP Sony IMX689 primary sensor, another 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with an ultrawide lens, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x hybrid zoom and a colour filter lens.

The OnePlus 8 is powered by a 4,300mAh battery while the OnePlus 8 Pro is powered by a 4510mAh battery. Both smartphones get charged via a 30W Warp Charge 30T charger. Only the OnePlus 8 Pro goes a step further and boasts of 30W wireless charging support as well. The OnePlus 8 Pro is also IP68-rated water and dust resistant.

Xiaomi Redmi 9A key specifications and render leak ahead of the official launch

Xiaomi Redmi 9A has been leaked yet again, this time courtesy of the company’s own product brochure for July-August 2020. This brochure is meant for the authorised retailers in the Philippines region and so there’s no word for when the phone will arrive in India. The Redmi 9A is an entry-level phone in the Redmi 9 series of budget phones and the leak also revealed key specifications which corroborate previous leaks about the phone.

The brochure has been uploaded by GizGuide, a consumer technology publication based out of Phillippines which lists the Redmi 9A as “coming soon”. Notably, the brochure doesn’t list the prices of the Redmi 9A. Let’s take a look at the leaked specifications of the Redmi 9A.

Xiaomi Redmi 9A leaked specifications

The leaked image of the Redmi 9A looks in-line with the design of the previous generation Redmi 8 series. The phone features a waterdrop notch with the display measuring 6.53-inches. The display has an HD+ resolution with a rather noticeable bezel at the bottom with the word “Redmi” etched on it.

Redmi 9A is powered by the MediaTek Helio G25 octa-core processor with Mali-G31 as the GPU. This is paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage with support for up to 512GB microSD cards.

The phone is equipped with a single camera on the back that uses a primary 13MP sensor. On the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera housed within the notch.

The Redmi 9A is expected to be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that could support 10W fast charging. It could be priced between 100-120 Euros which is around Rs 8,400 - Rs 10,000 by direct conversion.

Intel uses flawed testing to claim supremacy over AMD

The tussle for compute supremacy between Intel and AMD has never been this intense. AMD’s Ryzen series of processors have been hacking away at Intel’s market share in the consumer space at a fairly consistent rate, and team Blue has tried hard to not let go of their dominance. Now, a set of leaked slides from the Intel Partner Connect program has stirred up major controversy for Intel, causing a significant backlash from tech press and enthusiasts alike.

The presentation in question was given during the Intel Partner Connect event and is meant only to be used as training material for Intel’s partners. Amongst the many slides, is one that compares a tenth generation Intel Core i7-10750H powered MSI GL65 with the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS powered Asus Zephyrus G14. The slide shows benchmark data from 6 games that were played on both the machines, with Intel being ahead of the AMD Ryzen chip in every scenario. There is, however, only one problem. The GPU on the MSI GL65 is what is colloquially called the Max-P version of the Nvidia RTX 2060, while the GPU on the Zephyrus G14 is an Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q. Max-P means it’s a full-blown GPU with a performance-focused design. In fact, Nvidia quietly updated the RTX 2060 mobile to the performance of what would be an RTX 2060 Super, without changing its name. The RTX 2060 Max-P has a TDP of 90 Watts and the Max-Q version has a TDP of 65W. The two GPUs have a boost clock of 1560 MHz (RTX 2060 Max-P) and 1186MHz (RTX 2060 Max-Q). Suffice to say, it was not a fair comparison. The second issue with the slide is that Intel while using frame-rates as the benchmark, doesn’t actually state those numbers. Instead, it considers the Asus Zephyrus G14’s performance as “base” while its own performance is denoted by percentage points, qualified by the phrase “up to.”

Intel’s claim with the slide is that “Intel Core i7-10750H based system offers better gaming performance than top bin AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS based system across a wide selection of AAA games (measured at ultra-settings) for a lower price.”

Besides using a machine with a GPU that has lower performance, Intel also hastily chose to go up against a Ryzen 9 4900HS-based machine, instead of one powered by the Ryzen 9 4900H. The ‘HS’ part has a slightly lower clock-speed and even lower single and all core Turbo in comparison to the 4900H, bringing the overall TDP to 35W for the HS in comparison to the 45W of the H. The remainder of the slides also show Intel cherry-picking benchmarks to suit their narrative. For example, when talking about video encoding performance, Intel chose to use Magix Fastcut Plus, an obscure video editing program with 20 ‘mixed’ reviews on Steam. According to Intel, when video editing and rendering in this software, their Intel Core i7-9700K is 2.7 times faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 3950x. Intel should have ideally used Adobe Premiere Pro or even DaVinci Resolve for this comparison since these are far more commonplace than ‘Magix Fastcut Plus.’ Making matters worse is that Intel uses Premiere as a benchmark in a later slide when they talk about the performance gains of the 10th gen over the previous generation chips from Intel.

Over the last few years, AMD has been closing the price and performance gap on Intel, with their latest processors being neck-to-neck, if not better, than Team Blue’s offering. It is no secret that Intel has been struggling to squeeze more performance out of its 4-year-old 14nm process (which has been refined over the years). Proof of Intel’s struggle with delivering performance while keeping power draw and heat at a minimum is Apple’s recent announcement that it will completely ditch Intel in favour of its in-house silicon designed using the ARM instruction set.

The company had launched the Huawei Y9s in India last month in May alongside the Huawei Watch GT2E and much recently the Huawei Freebuds 3.

Huawei Nova 7i specifications and expected pricing

Huawei Nova 7i features a 6.4-inch Full HD+ (2310 x 1080 pixels) resolution display with a punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner for the selfie camera. The phone measures 8.7mm at its thickest point and weigh 183 grams.

The phone runs on EMUI 10 and doesn’t come with support for Google Play Services. The phone will likely come with Huawei AppGallery as we’ve seen previously with the Honor 9X Pro.

It features a quad-camera setup on the back which consists of a primary 48MP camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera and another 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there’s a 16MP selfie camera housed within the punch-hole cutout.

The Nova 7i is fitted with a 4,200mAh battery with support for 40W fast charging out-of-the-box. Huawei claims that the phone can go from 0 to 70 per cent in 30 minutes.

In Malaysia, the Huawei Nova 7i is priced at RM 1099 which roughly translates to Rs 19,300 by direct conversion. We expect Huawei to launch the Nova 7i at a similar price here in India. The phone comes in three colours, black, green and pink.

Microsoft to permanently shut down all retail stores

In what could be considered a bleak representation of current events, Microsoft has announced that they will be shutting down all but four retail stores. The company said that the four stores that will remain open will be transformed into experience centers. The company said that they will be moving the retail operations online.

"Our sales have grown online as our product portfolio has evolved to largely digital offerings, and our talented team has proven success serving customers beyond any physical location," said Microsoft corporate vice president David Porter. Currently, Microsoft has over 80 retail stores that have had to stay shut due to the Coronavirus outbreak. During the time, while retail sales have obvious rock-bottomed, online sales have risen greatly, prompting Microsoft to take the new approach for retail. "Microsoft will continue to invest in its digital storefronts on Microsoft.com, and stores in Xbox and Windows," the statement said.

While the company has not declared how many employees would be impacted or lose their jobs due to this new direction, the company has said that the retail ream will continue to tend to customers from the Microsoft corporate facilities. They will continue to provide training, support and sales guidance remotely. The company has committed a $450 million corpus to aid everyone involved in this transition.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of the company announcing the end of Mixer, Microsoft’s game streaming platform. The company has said that they will be partnering with Facebook Gaming moving forward.

Over the last few years, Microsoft has been slowly pivoting from a hardware company to more of a services model. The company has been building its cloud computing portfolio such as Azure Cloud. Microsoft is also poise to enter the cloud gaming space with Project Xcloud, which is already available to users in various countries. In  India, Microsoft had announced a partnership with Reliance Jio for Xcloud. The company has also started to move away from the traditional sales model for its software, turning to the subscription model for its popular software such as Microsoft Office.

OnePlus reveals new details about its upcoming mid-ranged TV

OnePlus is all set to launch its 2020 TV lineup and while it isn’t clear how many TVs the brand will launch, it is speculated that we will see three OnePlus TVs - 32-inch, 43-inch and 55-inch. Today, I want to share some of the details in our mid-range segment TV.”

The purpose of the TV is to immerse you in the content you are watching on it and hence OnePlus says the new mid-ranged TVs will have very slim bezels giving the TV a 95 percent screen to body ratio.  The forum post reads, “When you look closely, you'll discover that its design is different from the rounded corners used in most TVs. This one has four, nearly 90-degree corners to match the screen. ”

The post also highlights that at its slimmest, the TV is a mere 6.9mm thin. That is thinner than the OnePlus 8 which is about 8mm in thickness.

Next-Gen Xbox Lockhart spotted in Leaked Microsoft documents

Microsoft may be touting the Xbox Series X to be the most powerful next-gen console, but it is possible that they could launch the much-rumoured less powerful Lockhart machine as well. The Xbox Series X was codenamed Project Scarlett but it looks like there were two consoles under the Project Scarlett codename - Anaconda and Lockhart. Even though we have seen the Anaconda symbol on the Xbox Series X motherboard, we haven’t heard anything officially about Lockhart from Microsoft. If leaked documents are to be believed, then it looks like the less powerful Lockhart console could exist. The leaked document reads, “Welcome to the June 2020 Microsoft Game Development Kit (GDK) release. You can use the GDK to develop games that can be certified and approved for release on Windows 10 PCs, Xbox One Consoles, and Project Scarlett consoles. In fact, you can target all those devices using a shared codebase”.

So it looks like the multiple Scarlett consoles could hint at the existence of Lockhart. Sources told the Verge, “that this special Lockhart mode is part of the Xbox Series X developer kit. The devkit, codenamed Dante, allows game developers to enable a special Lockhart mode that has a profile of the performance that Microsoft wants to hit with this second console.” it looks like the console will have 7.5GB of RAM as opposed to the 13.5GB on the Series X. It will also have a lower clocked CPU and GPU giving it 4 teraflops of graphical power. It looks like Microsoft is making it easy for the developers to make games for this entry-level console.

Why we think Microsoft should kill Lockhart

Sony took the world by storm by not only showing off the design of the PS5 but also introducing an all-digital version. The cost of a 4K Blu-ray disc drive may be a mere $20 (Rs 1500 directly converted) when it comes to the cost of production but Sony may be able to price the console $50 to $100 cheaper than the version with a disc. Why? Well, to begin with, it means that you will make all your game purchases digitally. Games in India and internationally are priced at par on PSN and offline when launched i.e., $60 or Rs 3,999 for the base variant. Since the cost of printing and distribution of physical discs is negated in the digital space, Sony makes more money with each digital game sold. This means that if a person buys the digital console buys a handful of games digitally, Sony has recovered the cost of the discount it will offer on the console. This is an oversimplification of the business model, but it should give you some idea as to why it makes sense. The fact is that whether you buy the digital or disc-based PS5, you will get the same experience on the console. Lockhart, on the other hand, aims to cater to those with a 1080p TV  or the audience that wants to get onto the next-gen bandwagon but can’t afford the premium the new consoles will demand.  While this is a nice thought, it is a known fact that the base variant of any console is the bottleneck for developers making games for multiple platforms. This means that even though the Series X and PS5 may be able to deliver higher performance, the games could be based on the limitations Lockhart brings. This is just my theory. Another thing to note is that why would the GPU be capped at 4 Teraflops when the Xbox One X is a 6 teraflop machine?

Nonetheless, Xbox is expected to showcase its first-party lineup in July and we hope the get a glimpse of the true power of the Xbox Series X.

Google Photos redesigned: Heres whats new

Google has redesigned its Photos app for relatively better management of a user’s pictures and videos. The app has also received a bunch of new features that make it easier for you to look up a particular photo, video and memories. Google Photos is used by over a billion users each month, making it one of the popular photo and video management apps that comes pre-loaded on all Android smartphones.

Google Photos redesigned: Here’s what’s new

Google Photos app icon has been redesigned and sheds its angular design in lieu of rounded corners. Google’s aim in redesigning the Photos app is to declutter its interface and offer a simpler way of storing and revisiting your pictures and videos. With the previous design, there were four tabs at the bottom namely, Photos, Albums, For you and Sharing. The redesign brings a new three-tab interface-- Photos, Search and Library.

The primary Photos tab has all the pictures and videos but the thumbnails are now larger and the white space in between has also been trimmed down. The video clips in the Photos app now play automatically while scrolling through the library which is a nice touch for separating photos from videos. The memories carousel on top is now larger and automatically curates pictures so that you can revisit some memories. Google claims that over 120 million users view Memories each month so with the new update the app gets the ability to curate your best pictures with family, friends, on a vacation and even highlights from the previous week.

The automatic creation such as movies, collages, animations that were generated under the For you tab is also now relocated into the Memories tab. Users will also be able to hide people from memories and remove particular days from being highlighted in the carousel.

The Search tab lets you quickly find pictures based on different parameters such as people, places, things and more. There’s a new option which lets you view your pictures and videos on an interactive map. Google says the map view has been one of the most requested features and so with its addition, you can check out the places where you have taken a picture and can easily tap and zoom across different locations. The photos are automatically organised by the app, based on the location history that can also be added manually.

The redesigned Google Photos app is rolling out for Android and iOS and should be available to you over the next week. Meanwhile, have a look at the best tips and tricks to use Google Photos.

Cyberpunk 2077 trailer shows off new features, gameplay, upcoming Netflix Anime series and more

After the collective sigh that was heaved after the delay of Cyberpunk 2077, a lot of fans joked about the idea that the game would actually release in 2077. But, the game will now release on 19 November 2020 and from the online reaction, fans are still incredibly hyped for CDProject Red’s next big release after The Witcher 3 (Review). CD Projekt Red has also kept fans in the loop with a 45-minute gameplay demo back in 2018 and just last night, we all got a brand-new trailer, some more gameplay and an anime announcement. The new trailer was called ‘The Gig’ and sees V breaking into a building to steal a biochip and a better look at Night City as well. We also got a bit of gameplay with some sweet gunplay and driving.

The city in Cyberpunk 2077 looks impressive as well. From the grimy neon-lit streets to the shimmering highrises, it takes its visual cues from comic book artists like Moebius and Geoff Darrow. It feels dystopian but also inviting. We got a look at the ‘braindance’ feature in the game and how you can jump into a sort of recording of someone else’s memories. Melle combat was also shown off and it looks as visceral as ever with V skewering, slicing and bashing his way through enemies in the game. The developers of the game also talked about how Xbox One owners will also receive the next-gen version of the game on the Xbox Series X when it does come out. The game was already scheduled for Xbox’s Smart Delivery system.

From what we can see in the trailer, the game has a unique and distinct look to it. If you read European graphic novels, you’ll see the similarities between the two. The trailer also gives us a glimpse into the mission structure of the game with V being recruited by Dex DeShauwn to steal a biochip from a corporation. Obviously, things do not go as planned as they often do with theft and robbery and you wake up with the digital ghost of Johnny Silverhand in your head.

And, not to be outdone, CD Project Red also announced a new anime series based on the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Dubbed, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the show will stream on Netflix in 2022. It will be a 10-episode series and tell a standalone tale that will not be connected to the main plot of the game. Developed by Studio Trigger, the guys behind Kill la Kill and more, the show does have a familiar premise but we won’t know more until we can see a trailer.

In the meantime, check out the latest trailer below.

5 games releasing in July worth checking out

June may have been dominated with a lot of love and hate for The Last of Us Part II (review), but that doesn’t mean July will be a dry spell for gaming. The summer of gaming is underway with new game reveals and more. We got our first look at the PS5 design along with some of the games for the system and even a new look at Cyberpunk 2077 which has now been delayed to November 19. While the rest of the year looks to hold some exciting games, July is no slouch. We have not one but two big-name games coming to Sony’s platform and one cute and cuddly game coming to Microsoft’s console. If you have been saving up for some new games, then here are 5 games releasing in July worth considering.

Ghost of Tsushima

One of the most anticipated games of the year, Ghost of Tsushima takes players back to feudal Japan when the island of Tsushima was invaded by the Mongols. A lot of gameplay elements were shrouded in darkness until developer Suckerpunch gave us an 18 minute deep dive into the game. We not only got to see traversal and combat but also the environment, the ability to play the game in black and white and also, the ever-important photo mode. If you want to take on the role of a samurai who has decided to become a ninja, then this is the one for you.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR [PSVR]

The PSVR is an underrated piece of hardware. Not only is it a great entry point for VR gaming, but Sony also has a good exclusive library of games. The newest addition to that library is Iron Man VR that puts players in an Iron Man suit and lets them take to the skies to save the world. Not only will you get to perform some slick aerial moves, but also customize your Iron Man suit to make it more personal.

Release Date: July 3 Platform: PS4 (needs PSVR to play)

Death Stranding

Death Stranding (review) is a game that will definitely not appeal to everyone. It is more of an acquired taste. It takes dozens of hours before you get into any actual combat. Yet, if you are a fan of Hideo Kojima’s style of storytelling, there is something here for you.  Not to mention the fact that the game looks visually stunning and brings with it a AAA star cast in the form of Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus, Guillermo Del Toro and more. The game also has some stunning visuals when it launched on the PS4 and we can't wait to see what it looks like on a high-end PC.

Release Date: July 14 Platform: PC

Destroy all Humans Remake

If you grew up playing on a PS2, then chances are you had your hands on a game called Destroy All Humans. You took on the role of an alien in the game and did literally what the title of the game said - Destroy all Humans. The game was fun, quirky and brought with it an interesting set of weapons. Now the game is back and has been remastered for new generation consoles and the PC.

OnePlus 2020 TVs up for pre-booking on Amazon with extended warranty benefits

OnePlus is expected to launch multiple TVs under its 2020 TV lineup and little details are known about the upcoming TVs. If a Bluetooth certification is to be believed, then we can expect OnePlus to launch up to 3 TVs - 32-inch, 43-inch and 55-inch TVs. While the specifications and price of the TV aren’t known, OnePlus has confirmed that the TVs will start under Rs 20,000. If you are one that wants to pre-book the TV, then there is good news for you. The OnePlus TVs are up for pre-booking on Amazon India and those that pre-book the device will get an additional 2 years warranty on the TV from Acko.

How to pre-book the OnePlus TV:  Purchase the 2-year extended warranty worth up to Rs 3,000 at Rs 1,000 on Amazon between 23 June 2020 to 2 July 2020.  An email confirmation will be shared on purchase. Purchase any of the new OnePlus TVs (2020 models) on Amazon before 5th August 2020. On purchase of the OnePlus TV, all customers who also purchased the 2-year extended warranty will receive Amazon Pay balance of Rs 1,000 by 10th August 2020.

Coming to the benefits of the extended warranty, it covers the warranty of the new OnePlus TV if purchased on Amazon before Aug 5th, 2020. The warranty is valid for 24 months after the “comprehensive manufacturer warranty has expired” This means a consumer gets a total of 3 years warranty on the TV. The extended warranty covers electrical and mechanical failures covered under the original manufacturer's warranty. However, “wear and tear and additional elements of an appliance apart from the main unit, are not a part of the cover”.

If information circulating the internet is to be believed, then OnePlus is assembling its TVs in India. This will help the company save tax on imported electronics which, in turn, will help them keep the price of the TV down. You can read more about OnePlus making its TVs in India here.

In other OnePlus news, the company is looking to introduce an affordable OnePlus smartphone. You can catch all the details of the device here.

Oculus Go has been discontinued by Facebook

It’s time to say goodbye to the Oculus Go. In a recently published blog post, Facebook has stated that it is going to end sales of the Oculus Go. The Oculus Go was a low-end virtual reality headset that was thought to be the VR headset for the masses. While that did not pan out, the device has led to the pursuit of high-end technologies like 6 degrees of freedom tracking instead of the 3 that the Oculus Go was capable of.

The blog post reads, “The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, and you’ve told us loud and clear that 6DOF feels like the future of VR. That’s why we’re going all-in, and we won’t be shipping any more 3DOF VR products. We’ll end sales of Oculus Go headsets this year as we double down on improving our offerings for Quest and Rift.”. Basically what this means is that Facebook is working harder on the Oculus Quest and the Oculus Rift, fitting the two with newer hardware.

Acquired in 2014 for a sum of $2 billion, Facebook then launched the Oculus Go in 2018. Although VR was not the next big thing that a lot predicted, the Oculus Go was a great entry-level device into the world of VR.

In other Facebook news, the company has also released Facebook Collab, which essentially functions similar to TikTok. You can read more about that story here. Microsoft is also shutting down Mixer in favour of Facebook Gaming so expect more of that. Facebook also launched CatchUp, an audio-only group chatting app.

Instagram will now let creators sell products directly from the app

Instagram will allow creators to sell their merchandise directly through the platform beginning next month. The Facebook-owned social networking app extended access to Instagram Shopping to more types of businesses with new commerce eligibility requirements.

"Whether you are a candle business making a foray into e-commerce, a musician selling merch or a food blogger expanding into your own cookware line, any eligible business or creator account with at least one eligible product can use shopping tags to drive people to their website to make a purchase,” Instagram wrote in a blog post.

Businesses who are eligible can start selling their products directly on Instagram starting July 9 in all countries where Instagram Shopping is supported, including India. Eligible merchants can tag products they want to sell through organic posts or stories or have them surface on the Search and Explore tab. The tags will highlight the product that’s on sale from the photo, and clicking on it will redirect to the merchant’s website where users can purchase the product.

The products must be tagged from a single website which is owned by the business, so ensure a consistent and trusted shopping experience.

Shopping tags was first rolled out by Instagram in 2016, followed by shopping tags in Instagram Stories in 2018. Instagram also opened up shopping features for celebrities and influencers in 2019. But so far, Instagram had largely left out creators from the shopping experience. The updated eligibility requirements also brings them into the fold.

With this addition, JioFiber now offers its users free access to Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, Zee5, Voot, SunNXT, ALTBalaji, HoiChoi, ShemarooMe, Lionsgate, JioCinema and JioSaavn.

Recently, JioFiber also announced its partnership with Amazon India to offer free annual Prime subscription to its users and has earlier also released special recharge plans for its mobile subscribers that come bundled with Dinsey+ Hotstar VIP subscription.

Zee5 offers its premium all-access subscription to users for Rs 999 annually, however, if you’re a JioFiber customer, you can watch movies, shows and live TV on Zee5 for free. Zee5 offers a vast library of 4,500+ movies with 90+ live TV channels across 12 languages.

How to claim free Zee5 Premium subscription?

Zee5 Premium subscription is being offered to JioFiber customers without any additional costs. If you’re a JioFiber user on the Silver tariff plan, you can just log in to the Zee5 app on your Jio set-top-box and it will give you access to all the movies, TV shows and live TV channels available on Zee5.

Do note, however, that only JioFiber users that are on the Silver plan and above are eligible to get the complimentary subscription to a Zee5 Premium subscription. This means that if you are currently on the Bronze plan, the Zee5 Premium subscription won’t be available on your set-top-box.

The Zee5 app on the Jio set-top-box will also be integrated with the JioTV+ app which displays a curation of titles from various OTT streaming services on a single screen, without you having to open each streaming service regularly.

“With the lockdown, we have witnessed a significant uptick in subscriptions and streaming on our platform and this integration will help us keep JioFiber customers engaged and entertained, across a spectrum of devices,” said Mr Manpreet Bumrah, Vice President of Business Development & Commercial Head at ZEE5 India.

Airtel Xstream App Now Available for Android TVs - How to download and Install

Airtel’s Xstream service gives customers access to a curated list of English and vernacular content along with live TV channels on their smartphone. Now the cord-cutting generation can enjoy the Airtel Xstream library of content on their Android TV. Users should note that the curated list of content is there on the Android TV app, but it does not have the live TV channels the service offers. When used on a smartphone, the service gives users access to 350+ live channels. It makes sense not to offer the same on the TV as then people would have no reason to move to an Airtel Set-top-box.

How to download Airtel Xstream on Android TV

Firstly, please note that your TV needs to be running the Android TV platform and not AOSP.  Then, go to the Play Store on your TV and search for Airtel Xstream.  Install the app and open it. Enter your airtel mobile number.  Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number.  Enjoy Airtel Xstream content.

For those that don't have a smart TV or don't have an Android TV, you can check out the Airtel Xstream Box and Xstream Stick. The Airtel Xstream Box is a 4K Hybrid Box that brings satellite TV and OTT content together. The Airtel Xstream stick has a Chromecast-like form factor and runs on Android TV. You can read more about them here.  You can also check out our comparison - Airtel Xstream Stick Vs Airtel Xstream Box Vs Chromecast Vs Fire TV Stick Vs Tata Sky Binge Vs Act Stream 4k Vs Apple TV here.

If you are a Jio user, then know that the JioTV app is available for Android TVs and users can download the app, log in with their Jio account and enjoy the content on a large screen. You can read more about the JioTV app for Android TV here.
