Google Pixel 4a is confirmed to launch in India on October 17, the company has confirmed after it launched the Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) globally on Wednesday. The Pixel 4a was announced in India on August 3 with a launch date set for sometime in October. The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) won’t be launched in India, Google confirmed previously and the Pixel 4a is the only phone by the company for India.
As per a post by the official Twitter handle of Google, the company confirmed that the Pixel 4a is set to launch on October 17 in India and will go on sale on Flipkart. The price of the phone has not been revealed yet and it is expected to be announced closer to the day of the availability. The Pixel 4a is already listed on Flipkart as its specifications and features have been revealed during the last announcement.
Hi Roger, we appreciate your interest in our Pixel devices. The Pixel 4a launches in India on October 17th and will be available for purchase on Flipkart. To learn more about the Pixel 4a check out the official blog post here: https://t.co/EOgWtQ7NMg Appreciate it.
— Made By Google (@madebygoogle) October 1, 2020 Google Pixel 4a expected pricing in IndiaGoogle Pixel 4a is priced at $349 in the US which roughly translates to around Rs 25,000 by direct conversion. The India pricing is expected to be around the same ballpark figure and it will go up against the likes of OnePlus Nord, Apple iPhone SE 2020, Realme X3 and more.
Google Pixel 4a specificationsGoogle Pixel 4a has a new design with a soft-to-touch plastic back but without the dual-tone style as on the Pixel 3a. It measures 8.2 millimetres in thickness and is fairly lightweight, weighing 143 grams, due to the polycarbonate built. There is a square camera module on the back with the fingerprint reader placed in the middle for faster unlock speeds. The phone doesn’t go for an in-display sensor as is the trend these days likely to keep the price down.
The 4a features a 5.8-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that uses an OLED panel. The screen has a punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner for housing the selfie camera and has minimal bezels on the sides. This gives it a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Additionally, the display is HDR+ certified which should enhance the video-viewing experience on the phone while the audio is expected to be decent with stereo speakers.
The Pixel 4a is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G with an octa-core CPU clocked at upto 2.2GHz and Adreno 618 GPU. This is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Being a Pixel phone, Google offers unlimited photo and video storage in Google Photos in high quality for free. The Pixel 4a is a slightly toned-down version of the Pixel 4 that debuted late last year. It doesn’t come with the Soli radar chip or Pixel Neural Core but does come with the Titan M security chip which helps in keeping your data safe along with assured updates for three years.
Google Pixel 4a comes with a single 12MP camera which uses the same Sony IMX363 sensor as the Pixel 4 with support for OIS and EIS. Google claims that the camera of the Pixel 4a is capable of producing Pixel 4-like images from its camera with features like Live HDR+, Night Sight, Astrophotography, Super Res Zoom and more. The phone’s rear camera is capable of recording in 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 30/60/120fps and 720p at up to 240fps while the selfie camera can shoot Full HD videos at 30fps. The front camera on the phone is the same as the Pixel 3a with an 8MP camera with an 84-degree field-of-view.
The 4a does not lose out on the 3.5mm headphone jack and comes pre-loaded with Google Assistant along with a slew of new features like the new Recorder app which transcribes speech to text using AI and machine learning algorithms. In addition, the phone has accessibility features like live Transcribe and Live Caption as well.
The Pixel 4a is equipped with a 3,140mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. Google claims that the 4a can provide a 24-hour battery backup and comes with Adaptive Battery feature that manages the battery life based on how you use your phone.

There wont be a OnePlus 8T Pro, confirms CEO Pete Lau
The OnePlus 8T 5G is going to be the latest to join the company’s flagship range of smartphones after the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, but the 8T won’t arrive with a ‘Pro’ variant alongside. Earlier this month, leakster Max J suggested that the company might not launch the OnePlus 8T Pro, which is now confirmed by CEO, Pete Lau.
The company started releasing the ‘T’ variants of OnePlus smartphones with the OnePlus 3T, which brought a battery and front camera update to the OnePlus 3. Similarly, the Pro variants made their debut with the OnePlus 7 Pro, followed by the OnePlus 7T Pro.
Looks like the company has decided not to go with an 8T Pro variants this time. But why?
Why no OnePlus 8T Pro?OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, took Chinese social media website Weibo to share the news that there won’t be a ‘T’ variant of the OnePlus 8 Pro. The reason given in the Weibo post is that there is no room for an upgrade in the Pro variant, and those who would like the best experience can go for the OnePlus 8 Pro, as it’s still a competent device.
Here's what OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, posted on Weibo.
This means that the OnePlus 8T could be a standalone smartphone at launch. However, the same Weibo post suggests that the company could be coming up with some surprises for its fans.
The OnePlus 8T has been making headlines since it was first leaked and the company has teased some of its key features as well. Pre-bookings for the 8T are starting from September 25 in India, ahead of its official launch on October 14. OnePlus 8T is confirmed to feature 65W fast charging courtesy of Warp Charge 65 tech that was revealed recently and a 120Hz refresh rate display. Like all OnePlus devices, the OnePlus 8T has been leaked previously with some of its key features spilt way ahead of the launch.

Reliance Jio Postpaid Plus service decoded: Single screen Netflix, annual Amazon Prime subscription and more
Reliance Jio announced the Jio Postpaid Plus plans that comes with bundled with benefits that includes subscriptions to popular OTT services — Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar, along with access to the Jio suite of apps. The postpaid plans start from Rs 399 and bundles 4G data and unlimited calling, along with in-flight connectivity for passengers flying to foreign destinations.
The most basic plan under the Postpaid Plus service is priced at Rs 399 and comes with 75GB 4G data, unlimited voice and SMS, and subscription to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, along with data rollover option up to 200GB. There’s also a Rs 599 plan that includes 100GB data, and an additional connection under a family plan. For Rs 799, users can option of adding two SIM cards, and 150GB data, while the Rs 999 plan offers 200GB data, 500GB rollover and three additional SIM cards. The highest plan is worth Rs 1,499 and offers 300GB data and unlimited voice and data services when roaming in the USA and UAE.
While all this certainly sounds quite the bargain, we wonder how Jio is able to cram so many benefits for plans that are priced just Rs 399. Subscription to Amazon Prime itself costs Rs 999 for a year, while Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription is Rs 399 per year. Netflix plans starts from Rs 199 for a single mobile screen, going all the way up to Rs 799 for 4K HDR quality. So we delved deep into the terms and conditions of the offer to see what the fine print has to say. Let’s break down the offer for each benefit to examine whether it is indeed a good deal —
NetflixThe Reliance Jio Postpaid Plus service terms and conditions state that the offer "gives Customer using Android and iOS, the entitlement to access the Netflix service application on their mobile device at no additional cost.” This means that Netflix can only be accessed from iOS and Android devices (basically, smartphones) without interruption. Going by the limitations, it’s likely that the basic Rs 199 plan for Netflix is being offered here. The basic Rs 199 plan supports a single screen and only streams in 480p quality. For most smartphone users, that’s just decent.
Amazon PrimeThe terms and conditions for Amazon Prime state that there’s no change here. Jio is indeed offering an annual subscription to Amazon Prime worth Rs 999 that covers all benefits under the Prime subscription, including free one-day deliveries, Prime Music and Prime Video. Having said that, the same benefit is also offered by Airtel as part of Airtel Thanks benefits.
"The Offer includes Amazon Prime membership for 12 months at no additional cost when they are subscribers or subscribe to an eligible JioFiber plan. With Amazon Prime membership, Customer gets access to all the benefits available under Amazon Prime membership such as content on Amazon Prime Video application, free fast delivery, and access to Amazon Music. Customer can watch the content on all the means which are compatible with Amazon Prime Video app as per Amazon Terms and Conditions,” reads the T&C.
Disney+ HotstarThe Disney+ Hotstar subscription is also billed annually. Getting a Jio Postpaid Plus plan will activate 12 months of VIP access and will not require the plan to be kept active to continue enjoying the service. The same holds true for Amazon Prime, but not for Netflix. To keep the Netflix subscription alive, the user needs to continue to recharge with the plans that include the benefit. However, users will need to activate the offer manually on the respective platforms within 15 days of availing the offer.
The VIP subscription to Disney+ Hotstar covers live sports, 7 multiplex blockbusters, exclusive Hotstar Specials, Star serials and Disney+ shows, movies and kids content.

Google Meets free unlimited video conferencing is ending on September 30th
In April, Google announced that it would allow anybody with a Google account to be able to create free meetings of up to 100 people on Google Meet for an undefined duration. The company also stated that the promo offering unlimited-length meetings in its video conferencing app Google Meet after September 30th. As the date approaches, Google has reconfirmed that free version of Meet will be limited to meetings no longer than 60 minutes.
As per Google's response to The Verge, Google's spokesperson said that “We don’t have anything to communicate regarding changes to the promo and advanced features expiring." This means that as of now, the search giant has no plan to extend the free benefits on conferencing and other features.
What will change after September 30?Currently, all Google account users can create free meetings with up to 100 people for an unlimited time. After September 30, users who haven't paid for the Google Meet plan won't be able to continue their conference calls over 60 minutes.
To recall, Google in April, announced that all G Suite and G Suite for Education customers will be able to host meetings via Meet with up to 250 participants, live-stream to up to 100,000 people within a single domain, and save meeting recordings to Google Drive. These features are typically only available to people on the “enterprise” tier of G Suite, which costs the highest among all plans. Now since the promos are ending, users will also lose access to other advanced features for G Suite and G Suite for Education, including all the benefits mentioned above.
Google took these steps in the wake of the pandemic and to take on its rival video conferencing app Zoom, which exploded due to the sudden shift to remote work and schooling. Biggies like Microsoft, Google, and Facebook made some significant updates to their respective video conferencing services as millions turned to Zoom to hold virtual get-togethers, casual and office work and much more.

FarmVille, one of Facebooks most popular games, is shutting down after being active for 11 years
After 11 years, one of Facebook's most popular games, FarmVille, is shutting down. The game which launched back in 2009 will be playable till December 31, 2020, after which the game will no longer be playable. This is because the game needs Adobe Flash Player to run and Adobe will stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers, and Facebook will stop supporting Flash games on the platform completely.
Zynga’s support page reads, “Following an incredible 11 years since its initial launch back in 2009, we are officially announcing the closure of the original FarmVille game on Facebook. As previously stated, Adobe will stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers, and Facebook will stop supporting Flash games on the platform completely after December 31st, 2020. FarmVille will therefore be directly affected as a result of this.”
If you are someone that has invested in the game financially, then you should know that in-app purchases for FarmVille “will be available up until November 17, at which point the game’s payment system will be completely turned off. Thereafter, the game will not be accepting any in-app payments and any refunds will not be processed during this time. FarmVille will, however, continue to be playable until December 31st, 2020, at which point it will be shut down completely”.
Once upon a time, FarmVille was one of the most popular games online. At its peak, in March 2010, FarmVille had 83.76 million monthly active users. At its peak, the game had 34.5 million daily active users. This was in 2010. After 2011 however, the game started to see a considerable decline in popularity. On June 26, 2012, FarmVille 2 was unveiled followed by a September 2012 release.
During the early 2010s, there were a lot of Flash-based games available on Facebook and it looks like with Adobe pulling the plug on the Flash player, a lot of online games could suffer. If you are looking to enjoy some new games on your console, you can check out the game releasing for Xbox One, PS4 and PC in October here.

Average selling price of smartphones globally increased in Q2 2020: Counterpoint Research
2020 has been a pretty terrible year all things considered, but it was also pretty bad for smartphone buyers. According to a report by Counterpoint Research the average selling price (ASP) of smartphones globally increased by 10% YoY in Q2 2020. This came in the face of the highest ever decline in smartphone shipments YoY at 23%. The report notes that the overall smartphone industry is expected to decline at 15% YoY.
The report notes that prices for smartphones increased in almost all regions except in Latin America where prices decreased by 5% YoY. The APAC region, that includes India, saw an increase of 11% YoY. However, the highest increase was in China where it increased by 13% YoY.
CounterPoint Research’s report also revealed that there was an increase in smartphone dependency during the lockdown with an increase in downloads of work from home, study at home, productivity, gaming, entertainment and other content consumption applications.
There was also an increase in shipments of 5G smartphones. Q2 2020 saw 5G smartphones contribute 10% to total global handset shipment and 20% to the total handset revenue. Interestingly 72%of the global 5G handset revenue came from China, with a majority of the 5G smartphones released by Huawei.
In terms of global smartphone shipment revenue share, Apple got the biggest slice of the pie with 34%. Interestingly though, Huawei took the number two sport with a revenue share of 20%, more than Samsung who had a revenue share of 17%. It should be noted that Huawei is currently banned from using Android in any of its newer smartphones. The company is also tipped to unveil its new HarmonyOS soon and is expected to be available in phones from 2021 onwards.

Ather 450x special edition is called Series 1 and you cant have it
Indian electric scooter manufacturer Ather today has unveiled the Ather 450x special edition, called Series 1. The company had announced the electric scooter at an even in January earlier this year and had promised that the new electric scooter would start shipping in November. At the time, the company had bet big on consumers having faith in the brand, and expected people to lock in pre-orders before even seeing the final design of the Ather 450X. Today, Tarun Mehta, CO-Founder, Ather Energy has revealed that those who pre-ordered the Ather 450X will receive a very limited edition version of the electric scooter called Series 1.
The idea behind Series 1 was to do something special for the people who pre-ordered the scooter before its official reveal. The Scooter has a custom paint job, coming in a high-gloss black finish with a red stripe placed on the side panel with the number 1 emblazoned on it. Additionally, Mehta also revealed that the company has been working hard on developing a translucent body panel for the scooter, which will be made available to owners of the Series 1 later next year. The upgrade would be handled by Ather themselves and shouldn’t be too complex.
During the reveal, the company also clarified that the Series 1 will be a very limited edition version of the Ather 450X, and will only be sold to those who had pre-ordered the scooter originally. Mehta insisted that neither the high gloss black finish nor the translucent panels will be made available later in another model. For those wondering if Series 1 will come with any performance tweaks, Mehta clarified that besides the cosmetic tweaks, there’s absolutely nothing different performance wise on the Series 1 in comparison to the Ather 450X. Besides the custom paint-job and translucent body panels, owners of Series 1 will also get 1 year of free service as well.
Mehta said that the Series 1 scooter should be available to consumers by November in some markets, and December for some others.

Amazon launches new Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick Lite starting at Rs 2,999 in India
Amazon has updated one of its most popular products, the Fire TV stick and also introduced a new entry-level Fire TV Stick called the Fire TV Stick Lite. While both of them perform the same function, there are a few key differences one should be aware of. The Fire TV Stick is priced at Rs 3,999 while the Fire TV Stick Lite is priced at Rs 2,999. Let’s dive in and see what each device has to offer.
New Amazon Fire TV StickWhen it comes to the design, the new Fire TV Stick is indistinguishable from the old one. However, the improvements it brings with it are under the hood. The all-new Fire TV Stick features an enhanced 1.7 GHz quad-core processor that Amazon claims makes it 50 percent more powerful than the previous generation. The new Fire TV Stick can output 1080p at 60fps with HDR compatibility. HDR is new as the previous-gen 1080p Fire TV Stick couldn’t output in HDR. Previously, if you wanted HDR you would have to invest in the Fire TV Stick 4K.
The new Fire TV Stick also supports dual-band Wi-Fi. The New Fire TV Stick also supports Dolby Atmos. If you have a 1080p TV and Dolby Atmos enabled home theatre or soundbar, then this can be a great smart stick for you. A lot of home theatres today still have a 1080p projector hooked up to a soundbar or home theatre with Dolby Atmos support. Once again, it looks like this could be the go-to device for such setups as it does fulfil the need and is cheaper than the 4K Fire TV Stick.
Speaking of the remote control, the Fire TV Stick comes with the same remote control we’ve grown to love. It has a button to bring up Alexa and also has a power button that can be used to switch on/off your TV and soundbar. It also has a volume rocker along with a mute button.
Fire TV Stick LiteAmazon says that the Fire TV Stick Lite is 50 percent more powerful than the previous-generation Fire TV Stick. It features HDR support and comes with Alexa Voice Remote Lite, a new remote that allows you to use voice to find, launch, and control content. This remote lacks the ability to switch on/off your TV and does not come with volume controls either. The Fire TV Stick Lite does not support Dolby Atmos. Instead of the volume rocker and mute button, the Fire TV Stick Lite remote control comes with a new guide button.
Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite price and availability. The Fire TV Stick is priced at Rs 3,999 and the Fire TV Stick is priced at Rs 2,999. Both devices are up for pre-order and will be available starting October 15 in India.

Google Maps introduces COVID-19 layer to help you track Coronavirus cases around you
Google Maps is rolling out a new update that adds a COVID-19 layer to help you track Coronavirus developments around your region. This will enable the common person to make informed decisions about when to step out of the house and avoid visiting places that have the most COVID-19 concentration. Google has added a host of new features since the beginning of the year in the eye of the Coronavirus pandemic and this new COVID-19 layer will reach users worldwide by the end of this week, both for Android and iOS devices.
Google will now display information about COVID-19 cases around your region on Maps and this new feature will be available in over 220 countries supporting Google Maps. Google sources this data from multiple authorities such as Johns Hopkins, Wikipedia, New York Times, WHO, health ministries and also local hospitals. Google is expanding its already available Coronavirus resources to the Maps in order to better inform the people about the status of the pandemic in case they plan on venturing out of their houses.
“While getting around is more complicated these days, our hope is that these Google Maps features will help you get where you need to be as safely and efficiently as possible,” said Sujoy Banerjee, Product Manager at Google Maps.
Google Maps COVID-19 layer: How to use?Google has added a new layer in the Maps app on Android and iOS that lets users see a seven-day average of COVID-19 cases around the region selected on the map. Like all the other layers available on the map, the COVID-19 Info layer tracks Coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in the area and gives an overview to the users about the trends going up or down in a particular region.
Moreover, Google has also labelled and colour-coded different regions for easier identification in the Maps and information about the cases are also displayed at country, state and city levels wherever it is available.
Once your Android or iOS phone receives the new Google Maps update, you can check out the new feature by following these steps. Opening the Google Maps app, you would see a new banner pop-up on the “Layers” icon saying “See COVID-19 Info”. Tap on the layers button and select Covid-19 Info from the Map Details section and you’re good to go.
Next, you just need to zoom in and select the region you want to see the Coronavirus data of and the Maps will display city-wise or state-wise data if available.
