Apple analyst says iPhone 13 Pro Max will have a slightly better main camera than the rest of the lineup

Known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shed light on what we can expect from the camera of the iPhone 13 family of smartphones. He says that the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the top of the line in the upcoming iPhone 13 series will have a slightly better main camera than the other phones in the lineup.

According to Kuo, the iPhone 13 Pro Max will have an f/1.5 aperture. The rest of the models in the iPhone 13 lineup will have an f/1.6 aperture, the same found on the iPhone 12 (review). Kuo says, “Since the iPhone 13 mini, 13 and 13 Pro share the same f1.6 7P wide-angle lens (vs. 13 Pro Max’s f1.5 7P wide-angle lens), Sunny Optical’s order is the most in demand item. We estimate that Sunny Optical will ship the iPhone 13’s 7P wide-angle lens to LG Innotek as soon as May”.

The wider f/1.5 aperture will allow more light resulting in better low light photography, but to what degree this will improve over the f/1.5 aperture remains to be seen.

Kuo previously said that we can expect three improvements to the ultra-wide-angle lens on the iPhone. This will be found on the two Pro models. The ultra-wide-angle camera on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will also see a wider aperture going from f/2.4 to f/1.8. This would help significantly improve the lowlight performance of the ultra-wide-angle camera on the upcoming iPhones.

It is also expected that the number of elements in the lens will increase from five to 6. This is expected to help reduce the distortion when clicking an image. The ultra-wide-angle lens of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are also expected to get auto-focus which will be a departure from the fixed focus found on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max.

YouTube experimenting with removing dislikes, shooting themselves in the foot in the process

In one of the most puzzling moves ever, YouTube is experimenting with disabling the dislike button on the platform. Apart from being the worst idea ever, YouTube has stated that this move is supposed to discourage ‘dislike mobs’ from downvoting videos. It’s the most asinine reason given, but hey, it’s their won platform right? YouTube has stated that the dislike button could be disabled for the public but the channel owner will still be able to view the dislikes on their own YouTube Studio page. So, if this is about curbing bullying, allowing the user to still see the dislikes is rather hypocritical.

In response to creator feedback around well-being and targeted dislike campaigns, we're testing a few new designs that don't show the public dislike count. If you're part of this small experiment, you might spot one of these designs in the coming weeks (example below!). pic.twitter.com/aemrIcnrbx

— YouTube (@YouTube) March 30, 2021

Various publications have praised the move, stating that this would help creators get a more balanced like to dislike ratio. But, again who asked for this? In the official tweet, almost all the replies are skewing the company for this censorious move. Then again, this has been the trend for the past few years. Cancel culture is very real and it’s coming to YouTube as well. In fact, YouTube is going one step further and is looking at requiring users to go through various steps to just add a simple dislike. Our question still is, who asked for this? Likes and Dislikes on a video are extremely important, and it’s not just a popularity thing. It helps creators with feedback and what their audiences actually want to watch.

Nobody actually wants this, except those creators whose content is so bad that they need to hide the amount of dislikes they get on their videos. You're actively promoting bad content by doing this.

— Cynical Reviews (@Cynical_CJ) March 30, 2021

If this does take place in the future, it could be a huge mistake for YouTube. The platform is already fighting a battle against creators and this move will only serve to alienate its older creators and people who don’t see a dislike as an end to their small careers. Trying to virtue-signal is a YouTube staple but this is just asinine and not a smart move at all. The fact that we're forced to use YouTube music over Google Play Music is indicative of the company's policies.

Apple WWDC 2021 to now be hosted as an online-only event

As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, a lot of events in 2020 had to obviously be cancelled or had to be moved online. From E3, Comic-Con to even the various DC showcases, the internet was where it was at for almost all of 2020. Well, it looks like that trend is carrying on as Apple’s WWDC 2021 has been announced as an online-only event. Just like last year, this conference will be moved to an online-only event. Apple WWDC is set to start on June 7 and ending on June 11.

Apple moves its WWDC 2021 to an online-only event

Various reports have stated that we could be seeing new versions of iOS, iPsdOS, macOS, tvOS and WatchOS. Apple typically revealed a ton of new software updates during this time, so we should be expecting something substantial to be revealed. In a statement to the press,  Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise and Education Marketing said, “We are working to make WWDC 21 our biggest and best yet, and are excited to offer Apple developers new tools to support them as they create apps that change the way we live, work, and play.”. Could we also see Apple reveal some new hardware? Even though Apple did announce the new MacPro in 2019 but we think Apple will be focussing on software more, this year.

Another rumour that has been doing the rounds is that Apple could be looking at announcing its long-awaited VR headset but there is no official word as yet. VR has been a buzzword for w while now and it’s time Apple threw its hat into the ring as well. But, for now, all we do know is that the Apple WWDC 2021 has been shifted to an online-only event.

Heres how to get the BY15 - Sight Unseen skin for free in Call of Duty: Mobile

Call of Duty: Mobile has crossed the one million subscriber mark. To celebrate the occasion, Activision has announced that it will be giving away the BY15 - Sight Unseen shotgun for free. However, unlike most other giveaways, the skin will not be sent directly to players. Instead, players will have to redeem it in order to get it.

How to redeem the BY15 - Sight Unseen weapon skin in Call of Duty: Mobile

The first thing players will have to do is copy their in-game UID code. This can be found on your profile page, under the second tab. The code is quite long and thankfully, there is a handy little ‘copy’ button right next to it.

Now, head over to https://ift.tt/3m9y3Ep and put in your UID in the respective field. In the ‘Redeem Code’ field, put in the following code: BKHDZBZ7U5. In the verification code field, put in the right code in order to prove that you aren’t a bot. Now click the submit button.

Once that is done, there will be a pop up wherein you will be able to confirm your details. The code will only work till April 1.

Now, head back to your in-game inbox. You should have received a mail that will let you redeem the weapon skin. The skin for the By15 shotgun can be applied via the Gunsmith section.

The Season 2, Day of Reckoning update for Call of Duty: Mobile is still going strong. A few days ago, the developers gave players the chance to earn the new SP-R 208 marksman rifle via the Elite Marksman Seasonal Challenge. You can learn more about that here.

The SP-R 208 is the second weapon introduced in Call of Duty: Mobile season 2. The AS VAL was introduced at the start and is available to all players who reached Tier 21 in the free Battle Pass.

MobiKwik user data leaked, nearly 35 million users KYC details up for sale

Payments apps have become extremely popular in India with millions of daily active users logging in to send and receive money online. It goes without saying that the users will have to tread cautiously while using these apps, but the service providers should also be vigilant when it comes to security.

The latest news coming out of Twitter suggests that MobiKwik has been hit with a security breach, exposing millions of user's data. According to the popular security researcher who goes by the name of Elliot Alderson on Twitter, the data breach has leaked sensitive information which is a part of their KYC details. We are looking at details like Aadhar card, phone number, address, and other personal information.

Probably the largest KYC data leak in history. Congrats Mobikwik... pic.twitter.com/qQFgIKloA8

— Elliot Alderson (@fs0c131y) March 29, 2021

The data leak is said to have exposed the data of nearly 3.5 million users. We are looking at around 8.2TB worth of data which is said to include 36,099,759 files, 99,224,559 user phone numbers, hashed passwords, and more. The hacker has reportedly set up a dark web portal in which the users can search for phone numbers and email IDs to get the details.

MobiKwik user data and KYC details leaked online

As serious as this data leak sounds, MobiKwik says they have encountered nothing of this sort. The company has denied the breach and said the security researcher is trying to malign their brand reputation for "ulterior motives".

This, by the way, doesn't appear to be the first time MobiKwik has faced a data breach. Some similar reports came out earlier this year too when an Indian security researcher claimed that MobiKwik is trying to hide the data leak. And the fact that MobiKwik is denying the data breach again, doesn't seem to sit well with its users, with a lot of them raising questions.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite images leaked, could come with a MediaTek Helio P22T processor

While Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab A7 (review) in 2020, there were rumours and rumblings of a cheaper Lite version of the Galaxy Tab A7 out there. Well, the cat is out of the bag as images of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite have finally hit the internet. The images have been leaked by Evan Blass on Voice and show off a tablet with a single camera. Even the folks over at the Verge seem to think that it looks a bit like a budget device. Another leak has already stated that Samsung could be launching two new tablets, namely the Z7 Lite and the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite images leak

The Samsung Galaxy A7 Lite is rumoured to be powered by a MediaTek Helio P22T processor. It will also come with 3GB of RAM and a 5,100mAh battery. The tablet could also come with an 8.7-inch display while the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite could come in a little larger with a 12.4-inch display. A leak on WalkingCat also states that the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite will also come in various colours like green, silver, black and pink. The tweet was posted back in February so do take this info with a pinch of salt.

— WalkingCat (@_h0x0d_) February 18, 2021

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Lite could be powered by a Snapdragon 750G as opposed to the MediaTek Helio P22T on the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. In our Galaxy Tab A7 review we stated that the tablet comes with a good display, great sound output and a premium build. It is ideal for those looking for a content consumption device from streaming services, some gaming and light productivity work. So while these Lite versions may not be as powerful as their older counterparts, we’re hoping to see a well-priced budget tab that could offer a little more than expected.

Call of Duty: Mobile Season 2 Pursuit event goes live with exciting rewards

Call of Duty: Mobile Season 2 Pursuit event has gone live that will let players command the Special Ops character to fight against Cordis Die. The Season 2 of COD Mobile is titled Day of Reckoning and the new Pursuit challenge offers new rewards including weapon blueprints. Recently, Call of Duty: Mobile received a new weapon and the revamped Shipment map.

In the new Pursuit event, players have to train a soldier and will receive exciting rewards as they complete the levels in the challenge. Each player will be able to command a Warrior class Special Ops soldier that can be sent out on missions to acquire new rewards such as the Epic Type 25- Sanguine weapon blueprint.

COD Mobile players can earn XP by playing multiplayer and battle royale matches and spend it to strengthen the soldier. This also increases the chances of receiving better items in the draw. The developers have given an overview of how players can make the most of the new Pursuit event and have a shot at winning it.

Call of Duty: Mobile Season 2 Pursuit event goes live

There are more than a couple of seasonal challenges going on in COD Mobile and the developers recommend players should check these out. The ongoing seasonal challenges such as the Rifle Steamroller challenge or Pyrotechnics challenge will let you earn XP for training your soldier in the Pursuit event.

Upgrading your Black Ops soldier to the maximum will unlock the Special Ops 1 - Pitch Black operator that can be deployed in multiplayer or battle royale modes. There’s a cooldown period between training and sending the operator out on a mission. The devs recommend trying out multiplayer matches to earn more Warrior XP.

Players can minimize the downtime by sending out their soldier on a mission as often as possible in an attempt to acquire items and earn XP that can be used later.

Call of Duty Mobile Season 2 went live earlier this month and is called ‘Day of Reckoning’. The new brings tons of updates to the game including a revamped Shipment map, Tank Battle mode and new weapons. You can read more about it here.

Apple Watch is able to monitor cardiovascular frailty in patients according to Stanford study

The melding of consumer technology and medical science is something that a lot of companies are looking into. As we move further into the future, we’re seeing the combination of fitness trackers and smartwatches acting almost like our personal physicians. In a recent peer-reviewed research study, scientists at Stanford University have been able to measure one’s ‘frailty in terms of heart disease using an Apple Watch 3 (review). Now, what is frailty? Frailty is essentially a system where a six-minute walking test is a general standard used to evaluate the functional mobility and exercise capacity of a patient. The study saw that the result of the test was equal to an in-clinic doctor’s visit.

Apple Watch 3 used in a cardiovascular study by Stanford

The data and information were collected using an Apple Watch 3 along with a proprietary app called VascTrac. The six-minute walk test comes included with WatchOS 7 so it should be rather easy to access. What this means is that our devices could actually become our own personal physicians in the future. For basic health and wellness, a smartwatch should be able to give you all the info you need to keep your body fit. In terms of marketing, this is a boon for Apple as the Apple Watch 3 can actually be marketed as a medical device.

The streaming giant has already curated a large number of anime shows and movies but is looking at expanding that roster with even more content. While we already have stalwarts like Castlevania (review), Neon Genesis Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell SAC, along with more mainstream shows like My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan, the company is taking a hands-on approach in acquiring more content. A new report on Bloomberg states that Netflix will release 40 new anime titles this year.

A report on Variety also states that Netflix is adapting Record of Ragnarok, the massively successful manga series in Japan. So, it’s clear that Netflix is not only targeting a western audience but actively seeking out a more balanced range of users. The announcements were made at the Tokyo Anime Expo 2021 in Japan. Talk about walking straight into the mouth of the beast! We also reported that Netflix was actively working with Keanu Reeves to adapt his graphic novel series called BRZRKR into a live-action film as well as anime series. Adding to that, Netflix revealed titles such as Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Yasuke, and many more.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness releasing in 2021

Netflix has essentially doubled the number of anime titles on the platform as compared to the previous year. It truly looks like the streaming giant is going all-in on the anime market. With Sony’s acquisition of anime streaming site Crunchyroll for $1.2 billion, it looks like the anime wars have just begun, except this time, it’s two huge corporations facing off against each other. We’re pretty sure there’s a manga of that somewhere out there as well. If you’re an anime fan, you may want to check out our recommendations of the best anime shows on Netflix, right here.

Apple pushes iOS 1442 critical update for iPhone and iPad

Apple has pushed out a critical update for the iPhone and iPad in the form of iOS 14.4.2 and iPadOS 14.4.2 that patches a vulnerability that is being currently, actively exploited. While the update is considered a minor update, the vulnerability it patches is apparently a major one, given that Apple’s pushed out this update less than three weeks after having pushed out iOS 14.4.1.

Apple’s release notes say that this update should be installed by all users with eligible devices. According to the document, the vulnerability allows for “Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to universal cross-site scripting. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.” The update patches the vulnerability on devices ranging from the iPhone 6s all the way to the latest iPhone 12 series.

Interestingly, Apple has also released iOS 12.5.2 and iPadOS 12.5.2 for devices that are not compatible with iOS 14. This includes iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation). The iPhone 5s was released way back in 2013, seven years ago. In contrast, while most Android OEMs promise two to three years of security updates, many smartphones never actually end up receiving such updates over their committed timeline. A study had also shown that some Android OEMs were claiming to have pushed a security patch for a particular month, but in reality, that was not the case.

If you’re using an iPhone 5s or newer, or an iPod Touch (6th gen) or any of the iPad devices, you can go to Settings > General > Software Update to get the OTA update. Do ensure your device has 50 percent or more charge, or that it is plugged into a charger through the duration of the update process. As a safety precaution, do ensure to take a backup of your device in case the update gets botched and you need to restore your device.

The band is also expected to come with a Pomodoro Timer. In our review of the Mi Band 5, we said, “The Mi Band 5 is a great choice for those who are starting to become more cognizant of their sedentary lifestyles, and want to get back to a life of some activity. It doesn't try to razzle-dazzle with a boatload of features, but instead, focuses on delivering the right features tuned to work as well as possible. You get to track your walks, runs and even yoga. While we won't recommend it for sleep tracking due to inconsistencies in our testing, for everything else, the Mi Band 5 worked really well”. Google Stadia update includes support for touchscreen controls and Android TV app support

Even though Google has shut down Stadia first-party studios, it looks like the game streaming platform is still alive and kicking. In fact, in a report on 9to5Google, a new Stadia update looks to include touchscreen controls, the ability to take notes and an Android-TV app. As far as we know, users can play games on Stadia using the proprietary controller, third-party controllers as well as a mouse and keyboard. This new update seems to add the ability to use touch screen controls on games when played on devices such as a phone or tablet.

Google Stadia could come with touchscreen controls soon

There don’t seem to be too many new games with touchscreen controls so we’ll have to see how Google manages to integrate it all. Also, as of now, the feature only seems to be present for the Android version of the platform. Stadia could also come with support for the Android TV app. The update includes a reference to installing Stadia on Android TV. The report also states that you will be able to sign-in to multiple profiles as well. Just a reminder that Google Stadia is not available in India.

In other Stadia news, the Microsoft Edge browser on the Xbox One and Series X/S can now actually run Google Stadia. This development comes after the consoles received the recent Alpha update. The Edge browser is based on Google Chromium, so it isn’t a stretch to see how gamers managed to get Stadia running on it. As of right now, users can only use a Stadia controller to play games with no support for the mouse and keyboard. Users who were invited to the latest Alpha Skip-Ahead build for Xbox were treated to the Edge browser.
