Sonys State of Play event shows off tons of gameplay from Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart for the PS5
Since the launch of the PS5, the one thing gamers had been asking for is more games. In fact, as we’ve reported earlier, the console has already sold 7.8 million units since it was launched in November last year. Sure, we’ve got the excellent Demon’s Souls remake, Spider-Man: Miles Morales (review), Returnal (review) and a few more. But it’s been six months since the console’s release and we have not seen any new games yet. But that’s about to change as Sony announced Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart for the PS5 at the latest State of Play event. The showcase was mostly centred around the exclusive PS5 title, showing off the world, graphics and a bit of gameplay. You can check out the presentation and gameplay below.
And, right off the bat, you’ll notice that the way the game looks is absolutely stunning. The world-building and all the crazy detail everywhere is just astounding. We really have come such a long way in terms of visual fidelity in games, it’s crazy. The game still captures the feel and emotion of the earlier games but has had a shiny, slick coat of visual paint slapped over it. The combat also looked great with new mechanics combining with old ones, to create something visually and tactically new. One such feature being the Rift Tears, which you can use to teleport all over the battlefield. If the showcase is anything to go by, the game is going to be great.
Sony also showed off a bit of Subnautica: Below Zero, an expansion of the original game as well as the announcement that Among US will be coming to PlayStation. There wasn't much else really as Sony decided to really show off Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It looks like Sony is banking on the game to be a hit on the PlayStation 5. Stay tuned to Digit.in for more gaming news and reviews.

Sony sells 78 million PS5 globally, Indian gamers left in the dust
As most of you know, it has been hard for PlayStation fans to get their hands on the PS5 (review) in India. The PS5 was launched worldwide in November of last year and went on pre-order in India on January 12. It launched in India on February 2. With the hype surrounding the PS5, the console sold out in a short period of time, leading to acute shortages. A lot of people had to resort to the grey market to get their hands on the console. But, from the latest reports, it seems that the PlayStation 5 has sold around 7.8 million units worldwide. It’s clear that demand is far outstripping supply, but 7.8 million consoles in 5 months is still an impressive number, no matter how you look at it.
For fans in India though, it hasn’t been smooth sailing all the way. Sony shipped around 4.5 million consoles by the end of 2020, which means that Indians saw none of that supply. By the end of March 2021, Sony had shipped 3.3 million more consoles, of which Indian gamers saw a pie of. In a report on IGN India, the estimated figures of consoles sold in India was about 4000 to 5000 units only. That is a rather dismal amount for a country that has a sizeable and dedicated gaming community. A smarter move would have been an allocation of a minimum of 10,000 units, which we honestly think would have sold out in minutes as well.
Well, if you’re one of the lucky few who has a PS5, then we’ve got a few games you should check out that are releasing this month. Or, if you’re more of an Xbox kind of guy, you can check out our review of Microsoft’s competitor, right here. We did speculate that the PS5 could see a restock in April in India but that has really not happened yet. When Sony does restock the console, we’ll be sure to let you guys know as soon as they do.

Apple fined 12 million by Russian antimonopoly agency because of alleged App Store dominance
It seems that Apple is in hot water again, this time the company has run afoul of the Russian government. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) announced that because apps were distributed through Apple’s iOS operating system, it gave Apple's own products a competitive edge over other companies. Apple has been fined $12 million by Russia but says that it “respectfully disagreed” with the ruling and plans to appeal it.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service fines Apple $12 millionThe FAS had determined that Apple has used its position to reject third-party apps from the App Store giving its own apps a push in the eyes of users. This incident took place back in August 2020 and since then Apple has been fined $12 million by the Russian government. This news comes at a time when Western tech companies are making inroads into Russia and are facing requests and orders to delete content on their platforms. All of this essentially began when Kaspersky Lab, a cyber-security company filed a complaint against Apple. Kaspersky alleged that a new version of its Safe Kids app had been declined by Apple.
$12 million isn’t a lot for a company like Apple but it does cause a small dent in its finances. Not to mention a hit on the public image of the brand. But, it does go to show how different countries approach Big Tech companies like Apple, Microsoft etc. Social media companies have also been feeling the brunt of expansion, with Facebook and Twitter having to remove content and posts at the behest of various governments.

Spotify to launch new podcast subscription model, will not take a membership cut from creators
It looks like Spotify is getting into the podcast business. In a recent report on Variety, Spotify announced that it would be taking on Apple’s brand new podcast subscription service. But, unlike Apple, Spotify will not charge a fee, nor will it take a membership cut from creators. The Swedish company made huge strides by signing on names like Joe Rogan to its service. The deal cost Spotify an insane $100 million. They even debuted a new video player with the app.
The company will launch its podcast subscription feature next week but will refrain from taking any cut of the profits, giving creators a much better deal than Apple. With a 30% cut, Apple follows other platforms like Youtube, Twitch and more by taking a portion of the profits. It looks like Spotify really wants to disrupt the system with this move. The company will be testing out paid subscription models for podcasters, giving them the ability to offer special content to paid subscribers. There are no details yet on how it will all work out.
The company is branching out through various deals with popular celebrities and podcasters. Who knows how this will shape up for Spotify, but it looks like the company is going to shake things up with this business model. Even Facebook plans to launch an integrated version of Spotify's audio player through a feature called ‘Project Boombox”. With the kind of service Spotify is currently offering, we could see a mass migration of content creators to the platform, but that is just speculation at this point.

Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition teased ahead of April 27 launch, key specs and design details revealed
It is no secret that Redmi is launching a special Game Enhanced Edition of the Redmi K40 on April 27. The phone is all set to be launched in China on the day and is expected to feature some gaming first features. Ahead of the launch of the phone, Redmi has shared some design and other key details about the device -- including some of its specifications.
The company recently took to Weibo to announce that the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition will be powered by MediaTek's flagship, Dimensity 1200 chipset -- an SoC that has previously been used on the Realme GT Neo. To remind our readers, this chipset is built on a 6nm fabrication process and uses a prime Cortex-A78 CPU core clocked at up to 3GHz and 3 Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz along with 4x Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at up to 2GHz.
The company's new teaser for the phone also reveals some design details about the device, including the fact that it will come with a triple-camera setup at the back. At the front, there is also a punch hole on the screen. Apart from this, the Enhanced Edition is also shown to have buttons on the right-hand side of the device.
Other than this, reports have suggested in the past that this particular edition of the Redmi K40 will come with a 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate display that will also support a 300Hz touch sampling rate. This is a 6.67-inch AMOLED Full HD+ screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. Further, reports also claim the phone will come with air triggers to improve gaming performance and is expected to feature a 64-megapixel primary Sony IMX686 camera sensor on the back of the phone.
More information about the phone is expected to come in the days to come as we near the April 27 launch date. So follow Digit.in for all the latest updates.

Realme 8 5G with MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor launched in India: Price, specifications and availability
Realme 8 5G has officially launched in India after its global debut last evening. The Realme 8 5G is a follow-up to the Realme 8 4G which launched alongside the Realme 8 Pro in March in India. At the time of the launch, Realme revealed that it is also planning to launch the 5G versions of the Realme 8 series. While the company has only announced the Realme 8 5G for now, it is also expected to bring the Realme 8 Pro 5G in the upcoming months.
The Realme 8 5G is a bit different from its 4G counterpart, in that it does not exactly feature the same set of hardware and features as the latter. Some of the changes include the presence of the Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor over the Helio G95 on the 4G version. The Super AMOLED display is also replaced with an LCD screen but with a 90Hz refresh rate. Let’s take a brief look at the pricing, specifications and availability of the Realme 8 5G.
Realme 8 5G price and availabilityThe Realme 8 5G is priced starting at Rs 14,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage and Rs 16,999 for the 8GB+128GB storage option.
The Realme 8 5G will go on its first sale from April 28 in India and will be available to purchase from the Realme India store and Flipkart.
Realme 8 5G specificationsThe Realme 8 5G features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that supports a 90Hz refresh rate. The screen has a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera but since it is an LCD panel, it does not support an always-on display like the 4G model.
The Realme8 5G measures 8.5 millimetres in thickness and weighs 185 grams. It has a dedicated micro SD card slot for memory expansion as well. The phone is being offered in two colours: Supersonic Blue and Black.
Under the hood, the Realme 8 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor with an octa-core CPU and Mali-G57 GPU. This is paired with 4GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB storage with an option to expand the storage by adding a microSD card. It runs on Android 11 based Realme UI 2.0 out-of-the-box.
The Realme 8 5G has triple cameras on the back as opposed to the quad-camera setup on the Realme 8 4G. There is a 48MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture along with a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. There is a 16MP selfie camera on the front, housed within the notch cutout.
The power button on the Realme 8 5G doubles up as a fingerprint reader and the phone is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging out-of-the-box.

Amazon launches Fire TV Cube in India with hands-free Alexa controls for Rs 12,999
Amazon has launched the Fire TV Cube in India. The device is priced at Rs 12,999. The Fire TV Cube is literally a small black box that sits below your TV. Not only can the Fire TV Cube be used to make your TV into a smart TV, but it also offers hands-free controls for all your Alexa enabled devices.
Amazon Fire TV Cube features and specificationsAs the name suggests, the Fire TV Cube is a small cube that can fit in the palm of your hand. It has a glossy finish and, on the top, has 6 mics to catch your voice. It has the same blue light we’ve seen on Amazon Alexa speakers. Under the hood, the Amazon Fire TV Cube has a Hexa-core processor (Quad-core at up to 2.2GHz + Dual-core at up to 1.9GHz) coupled with 2GB RAM. At the back, the device has an HDMI port to connect to your TV, a power port, an IR port and a micro-USB port. On the top, the Amazon Fire TV Cube has 6 far-field mics to catch your voice. The Fire TV Cube also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi. It has 16GB of built-in storage.
The Amazon Fire TV Cube can playback content in Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. It also supports HDR 10 and HDR 10+. The device has the same UI we’ve seen on the third-gen Fire TV Stick (review). The biggest difference between the 4K Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV Cube is that the cube supports hands-free voice commands and is a small box that sits below your TV rather than in the HDMI port behind it.
Amazon Fire TV Cube: What's in the boxIn the box, you get the Fire TV Cube along with the new Fire TV remote control Amazon launched recently. You also get a micro-USB adapter to connect an ethernet cable to the Cube. you also get an IR extender. Sadly, there is no HDMI cable in the box.
The highlighting feature of the Fire TV Cube is the ability to switch on your TV and soundbar/home theatre by simply using your voice. The Cube can also control your set-top-box once you connect the 2 via the included IR receiver. So, you could literally tell the Cube “Alexa, tune to Colors HD on cable” “Alexa, channel up/down”, "Alexa, tune to channel [Channel Name]" and the device will do your bidding. No need to hunt for the remote control or even look for it from the get-go. The Fire TV Cube can also control your other Alexa enabled appliances, so long as you add the skill. You could tell the Cube to switch on your new Honda City before you leave the house.
Amazon Fire TV Cube price and availabilityThe Amazon Fire TV Cube is priced at Rs 12,999 and is available on Amazon.
