The Call of Duty series is known for its multiplayer component, as much as it is for its single player. This is especially true for the Modern Warfare trilogy which elevated the series to being one of the greats of the industry. The same series is now seeing a reboot in the form of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In order to drum up sales, Activision, the publishers of the game, are offering a number of different editions of the game. The standard version of the digital edition simply features the game, while the Operator edition offers in-game benefits such as three extra ‘operators’ to play as during multiplayer matches. Further, gamers will also receive an in-game melee knife.
The physical editions of the game are a lot more interesting. Besides the standard version, players can also pick up the Precision Edition, which features the game as well as a steelbook, KontrolFreek Call of Duty: Modern Warfare-branded Performance Thumbstick and Controller skin. Players will also get all of the in-game content offered by the operator edition. The Dark Edition of the game some with a steelbook as well as a functioning night vision goggles that can be worn. There is also a display stand to showcase the goggles.
Activision also released the multiplayer trailer a couple of days back. It showcases a number of gameplay elements such as the gunplay, melee kills as well as some vehicle based combat. It also showcases some of the game’s ‘killstreaks’ like the infantry assault vehicle and the juggernaut suit.
By the end of the trailer, it was revealed that the game will be available from October 25. Those who pre-order the game will get early access to the open beta which starts from September 12, with the Sony PlayStation 4 getting first access. It should be noted that the game supports cross-play between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. So players will be able to play with each other.
