By now, we all know that the Pixel 4 is not coming to India. We will not be able to check out one of the more hyped phones this year. The reason being the 60Hz SOLI Radar. The chip is prohibited in India and the Pixel 4 uses it to enable motion gestures. But there is some good news for users of older Pixel models, of which there are many. The company confirmed that older Pixel models will receive the Recorder app through a software update.
Up until now, it was thought that the Pixel 4 and 4 XL were the only phones to come with the Recorder app. The app is used to transcribe audio recordings and was exclusive to the Pixel 4 up until the announcement by Google. In a Reddit post, a Google employee confirmed that the app will be rolling out to older Pixel devices. We still don’t know when the update will be rolled out or which models will receive the update first. The post said,” Thanks for expressing interest in the Recorder app. We plan to roll it out to older Pixel devices in a future software update”.
The app itself used machine learning to transcribe audio while recording. This will make it easier for users to search for audio clips and other such audio queries. You could theoretically even search for bits of music and even sounds like an applause. As of right now, the app only has support for the English language but we’re sure that once the app rolls out to a mass audience, we sill start seeing different language packs. The one thing that separates this Recorder from the pack is that it will even function without an active internet connection.
