OnePlus Band leaked as the companys first wearable, could debut alongside OnePlus 9 series in 2021
OnePlus Band could be the name of the first wearable from the company, as per the latest leak. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has already confirmed that they are planning to launch the rumoured OnePlus Watch in early 2021. The company could likely announce the OnePlus Band and Watch alongside the OnePlus 9 series that’s rumoured to launch in mid-March 2021.
According to a report by Android Central that cites insider sources, OnePlus Band has been pegged as the first smart wearable device by the company and will launch in Q1 2021 at a price of around $40. With this, OnePlus wants to go up against the Xiaomi’s affordable Mi Band fitness tracker range. The report indicates a price tag of under Rs 3,000 ($40) for the OnePlus Band that could debut in India first.
As per the information in the report, the OnePlus Band could be announced ahead of the OnePlus 9 series sometime in late-January or early-February. The OnePlus Band is said to share a lot in common with the Mi Band 5 with features like AMOLED screen, water-resistance and long battery life.
OnePlus has been very transparent about entering into the smart wearable segment and has been developing a smartwatch since 2015. OnePlus had a design for a smartwatch back in the day but shelved it to focus more on its smartphone ecosystem. Some earlier reports have tipped the OnePlus Watch to feature a round dial and will run on a WearOS system.
The company CEO Pete Lau has also stated that they are working with Google and want to improve the synergy between smart devices like televisions and smartwatches. The OnePlus Watch, as it is rumoured to be called, is due out in early 2021, but we still don’t know much about it since the company is keeping everything under wraps for now.
Nevertheless, we can expect OnePlus to launch multiple products across smartphones and smart wearables in early 2021. There could be individual launches planned for the next year, or it could happen alongside the OnePlus 9 series launch. We will know more about the OnePlus Band and OnePlus Watch in the coming weeks and will be sure to keep you updated.

Caviars PS5 Golden Rock Edition console makes rappers look plain and refined
The design of the Sony PlayStation 5 is already pretty wild when it comes to consoles, thanks to its gigantic size, curves and lighting. In fact, compared to the Xbox Series X, one might even call it flashy. But what if wasn't flashy enough? What if you want it ostentatious enough to rival Dubai? Well, Caviar’s PlayStation 5 Golden Rock Edition might just be what the doctor ordered.
This ‘special edition’ of the PS5 lives up to its name by being decked out in enough gold to make Bappi Lahiri proud. In fact, the company claims that the console will be “assembled from 8 sheets, cast in solid gold. About 20 Kilograms of gold were used to create it.” So make sure your table is strong enough to take the extra weight.
Caviar further elaborates, “The case of this exclusive gadget is made in the original jewellery technique, which adds volume and texture to the model. The inspiration for the designers was the unique geometry of the gold ore and the graceful, beautiful outlines of the rock. That is why the console was named Golden Rock.”
The company also customised the PS5 DualSense gamepad just as ostentatiously. The controller now features grips made with Crocodile leather, along with gold inserts.
The price of this console has not been revealed, but rest assured that most of us reading (and definitely the one writing) this piece cannot afford it. Oh, well. At least we can still buy the standard PS5 console. Not wait, we can’t do that either as the console hasn’t officially been launched in India yet!

Amazon is looking at setting up a computer science program called Future Engineer in India in 2021
As if shipping anything you want, at any time, all over the world wasn’t enough, Amazon is now looking at brining its computer science program to India. Called Future Engineer, the program will look to teach underprivileged children and teens computer science and give them a chance in the emerging and vibrant tech market. First reported by TechCrunch, the program plans to launch sometime in 2021.
Most of this comes from a job listing that was looking for an ‘Amazon Future Engineer’ on Amazon Jobs. This is what is currently listed on the page. “ Full-Time Contract Position to lead the Amazon Future Engineer program as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility team in Amazon India for a period of 12 months (extensible basis requirement).”. Amazon is looking at launching the program sometime in 2021.
Amazon also stated that it, “has a specific focus on equipping children and young adults from underserved and underprivileged communities to build better futures for themselves.”. The company is essentially looking for someone who can dive deep into operationalising the programme to what is relevant for India and the student’s needs. Amazon has also announced a feature that will live translate conversations between people who speak different languages. The feature is currently available on select devices running Amazon’s Echo assistant. You can read more about that here.

OnePlus 9 pre-production unit leaked, sold for 6,000 on eBay
The OnePlus 9 pre-production unit that was leaked earlier this month has apparently been sold for $6,000 on eBay. The pictures were first posted by PhoneArena but soon after a listing of the same or a similar prototype unit surfaced on eBay priced at $3,000. As per PhoneArena, the device in question was a T-Mobile variant but the one listed on eBay is an unlocked version that’s compatible with all GSM carriers.
This particular listing was taken down shortly afterwards as few images of the OnePlus 9 prototype contained device identifiers that would have easily led the company to track the owner of the phone. The OnePlus 9 prototype surfaced again in a new listing but at $6,000. The seller added a text in the new listing that says, “I am not responsible for oneplus erasing this phone or anything they may do to the phone after purchase period. If you purchase this you agree to those terms.”
It will probably be very, very easy for OnePlus to trace this device back to its owner. I don't know what compels people to put up prototype devices for sale online, especially without even redacting identifiable information.
— Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) December 26, 2020The listing now has a sold-out tag indicating that someone actually managed to purchase the device. Do note that this is not the final production unit and a lot could change between now and the final product that is rumoured to launch sometime in mid-March 2021.
OnePlus 9 series has been leaked previously with reports hinting that OnePlus 9 Lite could be joining the fray. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor while the OnePlus 9 Lite is rumoured to launch with Snapdragon 865 under the hood.
The OnePlus 9 could feature a 6.55-inch display as per the leaks, while the OnePlus 9 is said to feature a slightly bigger 6.7-inch screen. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will likely opt for a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera and support 120Hz refresh rate.
OnePlus 9 is expected to feature a triple camera setup on the back headlined by a 50MP primary camera, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera with OIS support. There are also rumours that the standard OnePlus 9 could skip the telephoto lens and get a macro camera instead. As per the latest report, OnePlus could collaborate with Lecia optics to improve the camera performance of the OnePlus 9 series.
The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are also likely to support 65W fast charging out-of-the-box that debuted with the OnePlus 8T in October.

LG to unveil QNED Mini LED TV at CES 2021: What is QNED
CES is just around the corner, and it is that time of the year when we get a glimpse at new TV technology that will make its mark in the coming year. LG isn't waiting for CES to start. The electronics giant has announced that at CES 2021, they will show off their all-new QNED TVs. The TVs will be available in 10 models from 4K to 8K in screen sizes up to 86-inches.
“Our new QNED series is a premium home entertainment option that expands and improves the LCD TV space and gives consumers another terrific viewing choice,” said Nam Ho-jun, senior vice president of R&D at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “These TVs deliver an experience that set them apart from other LCD TVs and speak to our commitment to innovation and pushing the standard forward.”
What is LG’s QNED TV?If you thought QNED was somehow related to QLED TVs, you wouldn’t be wrong. Put simply, QNED combines the technology of quantum dot (QLED) and NanoCell technologies with Mini LEDs as the light source. LG says this will result in better colours, contrast and brightness ideal for consuming HDR content. According to LG, “As the first TVs to combine quantum dot and NanoCell in one product, LG QNED TVs produce incredibly accurate colours while the advanced LED backlight offers better contrast and deeper blacks for images of exceptional vibrancy and realism. And with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, these TVs render motion smoothly and more naturally”.
From the above statement, it looks like we can expect the QNED TV to support HDMI 2.1. Since 2019, LG’s OLED and high-end NanoCell TVs have come with support for HDMI 2.1. With HDMI 2.1, users can expect to 4K at 120Hz, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode).
LG’s Mini LED backlighting has up to 30,000 tiny LEDs. LG says this will help with peak brightness and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The 86-inch 8K QNED TV will have nearly 2,500 dimming zones and advanced local dimming technology. This means we can expect some truly stunning peak brightness and dynamic range for HDR content, but it's a judgement we will hold off on until we get our hands on the TV. It will be interesting to see if QNED TV's can achieve OLED-like black levels.
Mini LED backlighting for a TV isn't new, but this is the first time we are seeing Mini LED paired with quantum dot technology and LG’s NanoCell. Considering LG has had a stellar lineup of OLED TVs in 2020 like the GX (review) and the C9 (review) in 2019, it will be interesting to see the QNED TVs in action.
If you are looking to pick up the best TV that money can buy, you can check out the winners of the Digit Zero1 Awards 2020 here. Xiaomi recently launched its QLED TV in India and you can check out our review of that TV here.

These iOS and Android phones will no longer support WhatsApp from January 1 2021
WhatsApp will stop working on some old Android phones and iPhones from January 1. With just a few days away from the end of the year, the popular instant messaging app is dropping support for some really old Android smartphones and Apple iPhones. It is fairly common for WhatsApp to halt support for old smartphones running on dated operating systems every year.
According to the official website, WhatsApp will support Android OS 4.0.3 and newer smartphones along with iPhones running on iOS 9 and above. Additionally, WhatsApp is also supported by select phones running on KaiOS 2.5.1 including the JioPhone and JioPhone 2. As per the report by News18, WhatsApp will stop working on six versions of older iPhones and seven versions of older Android smartphones.
This means that all iPhones until the iPhone 4 are not compatible to run WhatsApp anymore as iOS 7 is the final iOS version it received. The latest iOS 14 is compatible with iPhone 6s and above. So users of the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s will need to update their phones to iOS 9 to continue using WhatsApp.
As for Android smartphones running on a version older than Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, WhatsApp will stop working on phones such as the HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black and more. Android phones don’t have an extended shelf-life in comparison with iPhones. Most phones running on Android 4.0.3 and above are not available anymore but people using those phones will either need to update it to the newer version or change their smartphone to continue using the messaging app.
To check if your phone is running on the latest version of Android, do a manual check by going into the Settings menu. Select About Phone from the list of options and tap on Check for Updates. The phone will perform a check for any pending OTA update for your smartphone.
WhatsApp recently went live with its Payments system in India in partnership with major national and international banks. Additionally, the company also unveiled its shopping tools for making it easier to shop directly on WhatsApp including the Add to Cart button and the shopping button. You can read more about it here.

PS5 DualSense Controllers adaptive triggers are reportedly breaking
“A few days ago, I was swinging around in Miles Morales when I felt the R2 snap and immediately become looser. It was as if whatever was causing the trigger to "resist" broke, causing it to go back to being a regular, non-adaptive trigger,” writes resetera user EeK9X. The user goes on to say that he has less than 50 hours of playtime on the PS5 and says he has taken good care of the console.
One user on Reddit writes, “Hello All. About one week into Demon's Souls, I just noticed my R2 trigger abruptly started activating under the slightest touch, or even controller movement. Inspecting the outside of the controller, The R2 trigger is now significantly looser than the L2; the slightest jiggle will rattle it in its place. I noticed several posts on Reddit and YouTube with other users experiencing this issue, but no feedback other than Sony seems to charge return shipping to address the issue”.
So, it looks like the issue with the DualSense adaptive trigger isn’t an isolated incident. However, the good news is that since the console is a little over a month old for almost all users, gamers can get this fixed through warranty. It will mean being without a controller for a few days, but you can use your DualShock 4 controller to play PS4 games on the PS5.
During various teardowns of the DualSense controller, we have seen the mechanism that provides the resistive tension in the triggers and the longevity of this mechanism was questioned. It is possible that Sony will alter the design and implementation of the Adaptive Trigger to provide longevity going forward, but that’s something we will have to wait and see.
We have a PS5 with us (first impressions) and we have not faced any problems with the adaptive triggers so far. Games like Call of Duty Cold War and Astro's Playroom have heavy implementation of the Adaptive Triggers. Upcoming games like Deathloop and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has also emphasised the use of the Adaptive Triggers, so it is a feature that game developers are definitely looking to exploit.
If you are sceptical about using the adaptive triggers, know that you can go into the system settings of the PS5 and disable the adaptive triggers, so they will function like regular triggers.
While the PS5 is selling internationally and is out of stock in most places, India is still left without an official launch date with the grapevine still suggesting a January 2021 launch with limited stocks. We do however have an India price for the PS5 and you can see how it compares to the price in other countries here.

Xiaomi to follow Apple footsteps with Mi 11 shipping without charging adapter
Xiaomi Mi 11 is set to launch on December 28 as the first phone powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor. Ahead of its launch, company CEO Lei Jun has confirmed the speculations that the Mi 11 will not come with a charging adapter out-of-the-box. So much for mocking Apple when it decided not to bundle charging adapter with its new iPhones anymore. The joke, it seems is now on Xiaomi as it has decided to follow Apple’s footsteps.
Writing a post on Weibo, Lei Jun revealed the retail box of the Mi 11 and said that in response to the calls for environment protection the company has taken this measure and will not include a charger in the box of the Mi 11. The retail packaging of the Mi 11 also confirms that the phone has 108MP camera system along with Super AMOLED screen certified for HDR10+ playback and the sound has been tuned by Harman Kardon.
A similar thing happened when Apple went ahead and removed the 3.5 mm audio jack from iPhones and Android manufacturers followed suit. Seems like we are about to enter a charger-less world but that would mean accessible wireless charging products that are still in its infancy. However, Xiaomi has said that the company will talk more about this during the launch that’s slated for next week.
Xiaomi Mi 11 has been leaked and teased in the past few weeks ahead of the official unveil and here is what you can expect from the upcoming Mi 11 series.
Xiaomi Mi 11 series is rumoured to feature a QHD+ display that supports 120Hz refresh rate and curves along the four edges. The company has also confirmed that the Mi 11 will also have a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus screen. A previous leak has also hinted that the Mi 11 may be offered in four colours with a matte finish and a squircle camera module on the back.
It is confirmed to have a 108MP primary camera along but there is no information on the other cameras. The phone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor clocked at 2.84GHz and will run on MIUI 12 out-of-the-box.
We will know more about the Mi 11 series as we near the official date of the launch which is December 28.

Recently, the company's Vice President and India R&D head, Tasleem Arif posted a tweet hinting at the launch of the Reno 5 series in India. Do note, however, that there is no word on the exact date of launch yet and with the year coming to an end, it is likely we may see the new phones in the Reno 5 series arrive in early January in India.
The Reno 5 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor which was recently announced for the Indian market. At the time, MediaTek revealed that phones powered by the 1000+ chip will be released in early 2021.

Oppo X Tom Ford patent pictures reveal slider phone with rollable display
Oppo X Tom Ford has been revealed in patent pictures filed with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) that shows a slider design with a rollable screen. This looks to be a special edition of the Oppo X (2021) that was unveiled during the Oppo Inno Day 2020 held in November. However, the concept revealed earlier extends horizontally, while the Tom Ford edition is seen to slide vertically. The pictures also reveal an engraving on the camera module that says “Oppo X Tom Ford Design For Concept Shakira”.
The Oppo X Tom Ford edition has a square form factor that extends to a large-screen smartphone. The back cover of the phone seems to be clad in leather giving a premium finish while the camera module has golden accents with three cameras and a flash. Interestingly, the phone does not have a notch cutout for the front-facing camera which increases the possibility for an in-screen sensor. According to a report by LetsGoDigital, the Oppo X Tom Ford slider phone can extend to around 80% in height, however, the screen size remains a mystery for now.
The phone has a rounder design and has two golden tabs that can be pulled out to hang it from your neck as a fashion accessory. The phone has been designed in collaboration with American fashion designer Tom Ford. It seems to have a metal chassis and the SIM tray is situated on the sides and is accessible when the phone is extended.
There is no official word on the launch of the Oppo X Tom Ford anytime soon and since this is a patent listing it is likely that the final product has gone through some changes. Nevertheless, the company did give us a glimpse of its rollable concept smartphones in November with the Oppo X (2021). Another report filed by MySmartPrice has the full patent application filed by Oppo and you can have a look at it here.
The Oppo X (2021) features a variable OLED screen that can extend from 6.7-inches to 7.4 inches horizontally. The company claims that Oppo X 2021 does not have hard folding involved which leaves no room for creases to be formed. There’s no word on a commercial roll-out of the Oppo X 2021 given that it is a concept product. You can read more about it here.

Some Apple Watch and HomePod users complain of setup issues
Some Apple Watch and HomePod users have reported that they are facing problems in setting up these devices using iCloud. The issue caught attention after multiple new buyers started complaining about it on forums.
The issue was first reported by MacRumors, who also spotted that Apple's status page shows an ongoing issue with "iCloud Account and Sign In" since early Christmas morning. At the time of writing this, the page still says that there is an ongoing issue with ‘iCloud Account and Sign in' for and that ‘some users are affected' and may be ‘experiencing a problem with the service'.
MacRumors has shared some forum posts that report issues related to activation where are a number of users complaining that their new Apple Watch is failing verification during setup.
Many HomePod users have also complained of the speaker setup being stuck on ‘configuration' in MacRumors forums. Complains suggest that the setup is getting stuck even after multiple resets.
Here's what the users wroteA user named BeatCrazy, who gifted his two teenage kids the Apple Watch SE on Christmas wrote, "I'm able to start the pairing process using my iPhone, sign into their Apple IDs with their passwords, but I keep getting hung when Apple wants me to enter the passcode of another device. I'm given options like their iPad passcodes, or one of my Macs. After entering any of these, the watch spins for about 2 minutes and I get the error "Verification Failed - There was an error verifying the passcode of your (or insert family member name here) iPhone (or insert iPad/Mac)." Apple gives me a choice to "reset encrypted data", which I take as an offer to destroy all their existing Apple ID passwords and data - not a good option IMO.
I have even turned off Screen Time for their accounts, and both accounts use 2FA (cannot turn that off). Everything else seems to be normal, and the watches even show up under their respective appleid.apple.com device list accounts. But of course set up cannot be complete."
After this complaint, many other users starting reporting the exact same issue. We read a lot of them and it seems like the issue is faced by users who're trying to activate the device via Family Setup. Some users who contact Apple were told that "their servers are busy" and they were asked to try again in some time.
Similarly, a Homepod Mini user named alecc131 says, “I cannot setup my mini. Gets stuck on ‘configuring' after initial setup, then after a while will reset itself. I have three other HomePods and never before had this issue. Unless there is a fix, mini is unusable,” says a user who goes by the name alecc131."
Soon after his post, tons of other users reported the same issue. The Apple status page suggests the service is still facing the problem, and these issues are most likely related to a sudden increase in traffic from new Apple users logging into Apple's verification servers a the same time.

Dont expect Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer anytime soon
One of the most anticipated games of 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has had one of the rockiest launches in gaming history. While the game runs fine on mid to high-end PC’s it is on the consoles where the game offers a lacklustre experience. Cyberpunk 2077 launched on a whopping 9 platforms - PC, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia. The game was quite buggy overall but it was the last-gen consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One which saw the worst version of the game to the point that Sony has removed the game from the PlayStation Store. Those dissatisfied with the game can claim a refund as well.
During the announcement phase of Cyberpunk 2077, it was revealed that the game will offer post-launch content in the form of meaty story DLC and multiplayer. But it looks like gamers will have to wait longer to get their hands on the DLC and the multiplayer.
CDPR CEO Adam Kicinski has said, “At the moment please let us handle the situation, and please let us make some more assessments – that’s still ahead of us; we don’t know yet, and we’re now focused on improving Cyberpunk. We’ll discuss this early next year”. So, it looks like the priority is to fix the game on all platforms and also to release the native PS5 and Series S/X version of the game before focusing on the DLC and multiplayer. It looks like we will have to wait longer than expected for the multiplayer of Cyberpunk 2077. If this means getting a great experience at launch, we are sure gamers won't mind the wait.
We spent some time playing Cyberpunk 2077 on a PS5 and you can check out our experience of the game here.

Xiaomi Mi 11 specs and design leaked ahead of December 28 launch
Xiaomi is all set to launch the Mi 11 on December 28 and it looks like the design and specifications of the phone have leaked online just days before the launch. If the leaks are to be believed, then we have a pretty good look at the design and specifications of the smartphone. Kicking things off with the specifications, it was known that the smartphone will run on the latest Snapdragon 888 SoC but now we know that it is clocked at 2.84GHz. The leak also reveals that the smartphone runs on Android 11 with Mi UI 12 overlaying it. It also appears as though the phone has 12GB RAM.
Coming to the display, it is speculated that the Mi 11 could house a QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. For the optics, it looks like the smartphone will have the same 108MP primary camera that we saw on the Mi 10 (review) and the Mi 10T. It is expected that the camera on the Mi 11 could see some improvements in the pictures it takes thanks to computational photography.

The Mi 11 will launch in China first on December 28 but it is expected to go on sale in India and the rest of the world in 2021. There is no information on the pricing of the smartphone.

The OnePlus 9 series is rumoured to launch in mid-March 2021 and some details about the rumoured third phone in the lineup have just been leaked. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are expected to be joined by a third phone called OnePlus 9 Lite, according to the latest report. While the launch is still a few months away, it has not stopped the rumour mill from digging up everything related to the upcoming OnePlus phones including a new smartwatch that’s in development.
According to a report by Android Central that cites insider source, OnePlus 9 Lite is the name of the third OnePlus phone in the upcoming series, and it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor instead of the Snapdragon 888. Not much is currently known about this rumoured third smartphone in the OnePlus 9 series except its name that could likely be OnePlus 9 Lite. Nevertheless, we do has some leaked information around the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, courtesy of multiple leaks including CAD renders and pre-production unit.
The OnePlus 9 could feature a 6.55-inch display while the Pro version is rumoured to have a bigger 6.7-inch screen. Both phones will likely support 120Hz refresh rate and have a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera upfront.
OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and could support 65W fast charging out-of-the-box that debuted with the OnePlus 8T.
OnePlus 9 is expected to feature a 50MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera with OIS support. Additionally, there have been rumours that OnePlus could collaborate with Lecia optics to improve the camera performance of the upcoming OnePlus 9 series. You can read more about it here.

Apple places order for TSMCs 3nm chip for future iPhones, iPads and Macs
Apple releasing its new M1 chips, which are based on ARM, has definitely stirred up the market. The chips are made using a 5nm technology from TSMC and are installed in their new MacBooks. According to industry reports, Apple seems to be the first one to order the chips based on the 3nano-meter process for their upcoming iOS and Apple Silicon devices.
TSMC is almost in the final stages of completing the 3nm process node ahead of Samsung. The trial production is expected to start sometime in the latter half of 2021. TSMC has already been mass-producing the 5nm processor for most flagship devices at the moment including Apple’s A14 Bionic and the M1 chips.
According to a UDN report, the trials for 3nm technology have been successful and Apple is the first to contract TSMCs advanced manufacturing 3nm process. The report has not yet been confirmed by TSMC, but sources estimate that 3nm and 4nm trial preparations are already progressing smoothly. The 3nm process line is all set to produce 600,000 processors annually, or 50,000 per month according to reports.
The move from TSMC towards 3nm is going to benefit Apple as the company has started to move its entire portfolio towards self-designed chips. The Cupertino giant will be the first customer of the initial 3nm process batch. The order is mostly for the M-series processor at present and might be used for their A-series lineup as well.
Samsung is also working on its 3nm process node, and as per reports the Taiwanese chipmaker is ahead of Samsung in producing the chips.

Amazfit GTS 2 Mini launched in India at almost half the price of GTS 2: Whats different
Huami has launched the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini in India two days after launching the GTS 2. As the name suggests, the Mini is a more affordable and toned-down version of the original GTS 2. The company had launched the GTS 2 Mini in China earlier this month and just three weeks later it debuts in India at Rs 6,999. The entry-level smartwatch will go on sale starting December 26 via Amazfit's online store and Amazon India.
Amazfit GTS 2 Mini vs GTS 2: Which one is for you?At almost half the price of the Amazfit GTS 2, the GTS 2 Mini offers a lot of similar features, but what's makes them different from each other?
The Amazfit GTS 2 has a 1.65-inch Super Retina display with 3D glass, whereas the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini has a slightly smaller and less sharp display. It is a 1.55-inch AMOLED with a 354 x 306p resolution, 450 nits brightness and 301ppi pixel density.
It also offers always-on functionality and will come with 30+ always on patterns and 50+ watch faces.
What's commendable is that there's no compromise on the materials. Both the smartwatches come in the same quality aluminium alloy case. The key differentiators are finish and form factor. The GTS 2 Mini is 8.95 mm thin and weighs only 19.5g in comparison to 9.7mm thickness and 27g weight of the GTS 2.
In terms of features and sports modes, the GTS 2 has more modes than the Mini, but it still offers more than 70 modes. The GTS 2 Mini has a women-focused feature that tracks the menstrual calendar along and can give reminders. Other notable features available on both the watches include heart rate monitoring, SpO2 measurement and sleep tracking.
Now, a few features that the GTS 2 Mini misses over the GTS 2 include built-in storage that lets you save your own songs on the watch. The Mini also lacks support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth calls, so you cannot pick calls because it only has a mic but not a speaker like the GTS 2. All of this impacts the battery life of the watch.
The GTS 2 Mini has a 220mAh battery that is said to last 14 days on typical use and 21 days on basic watch mode. Its battery is said to be charged in 2 hours. Contrarily, with a bigger 246mAh battery, the GTS 2 claims of 7-day battery life on typical usage and 20 days on basic watch mode.
Just like the Amazfit GTS 2, the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini has Amazon Alexa voice assistant, so you can set reminders, ask questions, and control compatible smart home products.
Which one is for you?The Amazfit GTS 2 Mini brings most of the useful features at almost half the cost of the GTS 2. What it still lacks is the internal storage, Wi-Fi and a speaker to take calls, which might matter to a set of buyers. If this is something you can compromise, the GTS 2 Mini makes for a more value for money entry-level smartwatch in a sleeker and lighter form factor.
