That all-essential selfie camera on top of the display is the biggest reason why we see notches of different kinds and shapes on smartphones today. While we’ve seen many different workarounds for the ‘notch problem’, we have yet to see a workaround that puts the selfie camera behind the display. Nokia, it seems, could be the first one to come up with such a technology on its upcoming flagship smartphone. According to a tweet from online tipster Nokia anew, Nokia is currently “testing” its “under-the-display front camera” on the the Nokia 9.2 PureView.
If Nokia succeeds in its venture, then the Nokia 9.2 PureView will be one of the first smartphones in the market to feature such technology and, hopefully, be more successful than previous models in the PureView family. Apart from wanting to learn how it works, smartphone critics such as ourselves will also want to understand just how ‘Pure’ the ‘View’ produced by the hidden camera is. Since Nokia hasn’t confirmed this development officially, we suggest you take it with a pinch of salt for the moment.
Nokia has reportedly delayed the launch of its flagship smartphone for 2020. Referred to as the Nokia 9.1 PureView in online discussions, Nokia’s upcoming flagship was originally reported to employ Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 chip. However, more recent reports suggest Nokia will brand it as the Nokia 9.2 PureView (ditching any plans for a Nokia 9.1 PureView in the process) and equip it with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chip. This rework is thought to be the cause of Nokia’s launch delay.
However, if you’re in the market for a Nokia PureView smartphone right now, you can consider the Nokia 9 PureView. Available through some online channels for around Rs 49,999, it's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. The handset’s ‘PureDisplay’ pOLED screen measures 5.99 inches diagonally and has a maximum resolution of 1440x2880 pixels. In addition, the Nokia 9 PureView sports a 12MP penta-camera setup on its back panel and a single 20MP selfie camera. You can read more about its advanced camera system here.
