Samsung is reportedly readying a true Galaxy Fold successor despite its plans to launch another foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip alongside the Galaxy S20 series. The Galaxy Z Flip is likely to be a clamshell foldable phone like the Motorola Razr (2019). On the other hand, the Galaxy Fold successor is expected to be designed on the roots of the original Fold. The specifications of the upcoming Galaxy Fold have surfaced online.
Max Weinbach from XDA Developers has shared speculated specs of the true successor for the Galaxy Fold, which could be launched in the second quarter of 2020. The Galaxy Fold successor is expected to be a 5G device powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. It is likely to feature an 8-inch display with ultra-thin glass that is expected to be seen on the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip. The purported Galaxy Fold successor could come with a 108MP main camera. Moreover, it is tipped to be accompanied by an S Pen stylus, which would make it the first non-Note series Samsung phone to support the S Pen.
For reference, Galaxy Z Flip is rumoured to feature an ultra-thin glass display with a plastic layer on top. The additional plastic layer is said to ensure the display is not scratched easily. Further, Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone is tipped to pack a 3300mAh battery. In contrast, the Galaxy Fold had a battery capacity of 4380mAh. But then, the Galaxy Z Flip is likely to be a clamshell device with a smaller display on the body. To compare, Motorola Razr (2019) packs a 2510mAh battery.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip alongside the Galaxy S20 series in February.
