No, PUBG Mobile is not launching in India today. Yup, that’s it. That’s the news. Digit.in got in touch with the team at PUBG Mobile India, and they have confirmed that it’s not happening. So if you were planning on playing PUBG Mobile India today, it looks like you will have to wait a while longer. Of course, the bigger question is how did this rumour begin.
Well, there seem to be two news stories that point to PUBG Mobile planning something today. The first is from TechCrunch which points towards Krafton kicking off its marketing campaign for PUBG Mobile India. In its story, it was said that the PUBG Corporation plans to invest $100 million in India’s gaming, esports and IT ecosystems. It should be noted that their story doesn’t directly imply that the game will release today. However, they do point towards popular PUBG Mobile YouTuber, Kronten Gaming who alluded to the same in one of his videos.
In the video, at around the 3:11 mark, Kronten Gaming (real name Chetan Chandgude) notes that the teaser for the game will be out soon and that the game should release soon. The November 20th date seems more like an off-hand comment based on the assumption that the game is stated to be ‘coming soon’. It should be noted that Chandgude was one of the YouTubers who were a part of the teaser video alongside Dynamo and Johnathan.
Of course, there is also the possibility that YouTubers like Kronten Gamingmight get an advanced copy of the game to try out today and accidentally let that (almost) slip during his live stream. This is a fairly common practice in gaming as this allows publications/influencers to get to experience the game before launch, share feedback, and possibly generate additional hype for the game. Bethesda did that with the Fallout 76 B.E.T.A a few years ago. Of course, this is pure speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Regardless, what we do know is that PUBG Corp. plans to release the game before the end of the year. However, before they do that, there are a lot of hurdles they will need to clear with the most notable being a clearance from the Indian Government which will most likely go through the game with a fine-tooth comb. Regardless, players should sit tight and check out PUBG Mobile India’s official social media channels for concrete information.
