Counter-Strike 2: Valve adds Premier mode to CS2 Limited Test and opens gates to a ton of new players in the latest CS2 update
Counter-Strike 2. This game has been the buzzword in the world of FPS games, especially the fans of the Counter-Strike franchise, since it was announced in March this year. Valve has been working on the game for some time now and has now pushed out one of the biggest updates that the game has ever seen. I finally have access to CS2, the matchmaking/ranking system has been overhauled, and Inferno, one of the oldest maps in the Counter-Strike franchise, has been given a Source 2 facelift. Now, without wasting much time, let’s dive directly into the changes made to CS2 and stick around to find out if you are one of the lucky few to have gotten access to the latest from Valve.
Counter-Strike 2: Premier ModeCounter-Strike released Premier Mode to Global Offensive in December 2023 as a part of Operation Broken Fang. After the operation, the mode was made open to everyone with some unique features that made it stand out from regular matchmaking. However, in CS2, Valve has gone ahead and completely overhauled this system to introduce an array of new features, which makes it a complete departure from the CS matchmaking we know today.
The backbone of these changes lies in the new rating system and leaderboards. The new rating system will work like ELOs, as we know from third-party matchmaking services like FACEIT. This new system is called CS Rating. The way this works is not completely known to everyone, but essentially, you will need to win a certain number of games to unlock Premier mode, where you can earn these ratings.
Using these ratings, you will be placed on a leaderboard. As stated by Valve on their FAQs page about these changes, the leaderboards are as follows –
There are nine Counter-Strike 2 leaderboards:
Friends - This leaderboard tracks players on your Friends List. World - the top 1,000 players in the world. Africa Asia Australia China Europe North America South AmericaData miners had already found information about this new mode in one of the earlier updates of the game. Additionally, if you do not want to be a part of Premier matchmaking, you can now earn your matchmaking ranks on a per-map basis. This means that all the Dust II warriors who ranked up to Global Elite, queuing for the most played map in CS, you will now need to work your way up to the upper echelons of Counter-Strike on every map in the active duty pool. I will not delve into its workings here, but the video below will walk you through what the new ratings system looks like –
This new system could be your ladder to the bigger stages of CS. Now, it will be interesting to see how the third-party matchmaking services, with whom, Valve has had official partnerships with, react to these changes.
Inferno is back! One of the oldest maps in Counter-Strike, de_inferno, or as we call it, Inferno, has also received a facelift using the Source 2 tools. The map is a part of the overhauled groups of maps, which means it was completely built from the ground up using Source 2 tools and map-making tools. The map looks and plays amazing! You have to see it to believe it. On that topic, there has been a new wave of invites as well. Let’s find out what that is all about!
An almost open BetaThe Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test Beta had very few players added to it after its announcement. Valve had released a couple of waves of invites after the announcement, but if my friends-list is anything to by, leave alone the millions of players who were pinging Lord Gaben for an invite, the invites were few and far between. However, with this update comes along a new wave of invites, which from what I can gauge at the time of writing, has a pretty generous selection criteria.
In their Tweet about the changes, Valve mentioned the selection criteria for players to become a part of the Limited Test. The Tweet reads - “And beginning today, we are starting the process of inviting as many eligible players as possible to the Limited Test. To be eligible, players must have CS:GO Prime Status, an active Competitive Skill Group, and play the majority of their official matchmaking games in one of the regions where the Limited Test is available.”
Today we are introducing CS Rating—a precise display of your skill in Counter-Strike 2. With regional and World Leaderboards you'll know exactly how you stack up. Competitive mode in CS2 now features per-map Skill Groups, so players can master their favorite maps while learning… pic.twitter.com/LexHHv8P36
— CS2 (@CounterStrike) August 31, 2023So, I would say, you should go and check if you got the invite or not, NOW!

As the Snapdragon Summit comes closer and is just two months away, we all await the upcoming flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. But ahead of its launch, a leaked benchmark listing has revealed some of its specs. The Snapdragon Summit is just 2 months away and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has become the talk of the town. If rumours are to be believed, the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be launched earlier than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was launched last year.
Now, ahead of its launch, we have come across a leaked benchmark listing. This gives us a hint at what to expect from the upcoming chipset that’ll power our smartphones.

Allegedly, tipster Digital Chat Station took to Weibo to share this leak. The tipster shared a Geekbench 5 score of the RedMagic 9. It scored 5977 in multi-score and 1596 in single-score.
The device which was tested, mentions that its motherboard is the “pineapple" moniker. This is the one that is rumoured to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It runs on Android 14 and could be one of the first flagship phones to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Also, the listing revealed that the device had one primary core with 3.19GHz, next to five middle cores at 2.96GHz clock speeds, and two cores featuring 2.27GHz. Hence, according to Digital Chat Station, the chipset could have one Cortex X4, five Cortex-A720, and two Cortex-A520, respectively. In addition to this, it will be equipped by an Adreno 750 GPU.

Boat Smart Ring specifications tipped: Would you buy a Smarting over Smartwatch
Boat confirmed its new category of products a while back, which is Smart Ring. The Smart Ring is exactly what it sounds like. Just like smartwatches, it can be used to track your health status. You can also wear it to gear up your fashion game, and some people prefer to wear rings and not wrist watches, so this could be a great thing for them. Additionally, you can use it daily as it comes with 5 ATM water and sweat resistance.
Mukul Sharma, a known tipster, has provided some details of the boAt Smart Ring on X (formerly Twitter). The pictures in the tweet described its specifications. As I mentioned above, the Smart Ring is set to incorporate multiple health sensors commonly seen on smartwatches. It features a heart rate sensor, SpO2 sensor, sleep tracker, and even a period tracker. Intriguingly, there's a possibility that it might also offer compatibility with a body temperature monitoring feature.

Indian PC market shrunk by over 15 percent, Acer the only brand that grew
In India, the regular PC market seems to face problems. They sent out 3.2 million computers in the second part of this year. This was a little more than before, but compared to the same time last year, it went down by a lot (15.3% less). This information comes from a group called International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.
In this quarter, all types of computer products didn't sell as well as they did the year before. Computers such as notebooks sold 18.5% less, and the desktops sold 7.0% less compared to last year. Both regular people and businesses didn't buy as many computers, with a 17.0% drop for regular people and 13.8% for businesses.
Also read: Lenovo strengthens Make In India plans
The PCs sold for schools and the government did better, but businesses had a hard time. Some states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu helped schools get more computers, and that made the school computer market grow by 43.7%. The government also increased the PC market by 8.2%, because they needed them for court orders.
The high-end laptops, priced over ₹80,000, faced a downfall by 30.7%. But they did better in the later part of the year, going up by 39.0% compared to the previous three months.
However, the top 5 brands in India are HP Inc, Lenovo, Dell Technologies, Asus, and Acer Group. All of these companies have faced a downfall in their market share in 2Q23 compared to last year’s (2Q22) position, except Acer Group, according to IDC. Acer Group has seen a positive growth in its market share this year.

Acer Group has gained 11.4% in 2Q23 market share, whereas last year’s score was 8.9%. This company has got a 8.2% positive YoY growth in the total market.
Next up, there’s Asus, which secured 7.2% 2Q23 market share. A slight increase from last year. But it faced a 0.5% decline in 2Q23 YoY growth.
HP Inc. has faced a 14.4% loss in 2Q23 YoY growth and secured 31.1% 2Q23 market share. A slight increase here as well, 30.8% in 2Q22 market share.
Lenovo failed to achieve positive growth as it faced a 30.2% decline in 2Q23 YoY. Its 2Q22’s market share was 19.6%, whereas this year it was only 16.2%.
Dell Technologies has done the worst of them all, as it faced a 39.9% decline in 2Q23 YoY. Its 2Q22’s market share was 21.6%, whereas this year it was only 15.3%.

WhatsApp will soon let you make AI generated stickers: Heres how
WhatsApp is continuously rolling out new features. Recently, a new feature was introduced which helped in sharing your screen on a video call. Now, Meta has launched a new Whatsapp beta version and is trying out a cool update with AI-made stickers. Some users can use this feature now as the company gave the access to select users for the testing to see how it works and find any problems. This new thing lets you make stickers by just describing them with words. This could change the app a lot because you can make your very own special stickers by using Artificial Intelligence.
WhatsApp is getting ready to launch a fresh beta version 2.23.17.14, that lets you use and make stickers using AI. A picture in a report by WABetaInfo showed how to do it.
Also read: Whatsapp will increase your app security with passkey protection: Report
There's a special "create" button you can see in the sticker part. You type a description for the sticker you want. Then, WhatsApp shows you a bunch of stickers made by AI based on what you wrote. You can pick the one you like best to share.
The company hasn't said which AI model they're using for this. They're using secure technology to make the AI stickers work, but they didn't explain exactly what kind. The way this works is kind of like other models such as Midjoureny or OpenAI's DALL-E, where you can make your own pictures.

Apple will pay 5000 compensation to users of iPhone 6, 7 and SE: Heres why
Five years ago, iPhone users claimed intentional slowdowns on iPhone 6, 7, and SE models and started a dispute with the tech-giant. Apple acknowledged the slowdowns but denied any bad intentions. In 2020, Apple chose resolution and agreed to pay up to $500 million to avoid legal trouble. Some iPhone owners formed a lawsuit in 2018, contesting Apple's actions. The affected models included iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, and 7 Plus.
Recent reports from Silicon Valley indicate Apple's commencement of compensation for dissatisfied users affected by deliberate iPhone slowdowns. Legal advocate Tyson Redenbarger estimated an approximate $65 compensation per user, possibly signaling the resolution of the longstanding issue. In 2016, Apple openly admitted to slowing down older iPhones as a measure to prevent sudden shutdowns.
Also read: Apple issues formal apology for slowing down iPhones, offers cheaper battery replacements for anyone with iPhone 6 or later
Initially, Apple maintained its innocence, but in 2020, the company had a change of heart, agreeing to pay a sum ranging from $310 million to $500 million. While a few claimants initially received $25, two iPhone owners held out for more and ultimately declined the initial offer.
Three years ago, a specialized website was established to allow users to submit compensation requests, necessitating the input of their iPhone's serial number for verification. Users could select either a bank transfer or a mailed check as their preferred method of payment, highlighting the evolving landscape of remuneration methods.

For compensation, people who owned an iPhone 6, 7, or SE may wonder if they qualify. However, those who didn't register their claims by October 6, 2020, are now ineligible for compensation. To seek compensation, users were required to register their serial numbers on a dedicated company website designed for logging performance-related grievances.

Threads already lost 79-percent of users till date, in worrying news for Metas Zuckerberg
Twitter lookalike Threads was rolled out recently on July 5 and took the internet by quite the storm. But it turns out that the hype was really short-lived as the App is seeing a massive decline in active users. Currently, the Zuckerberg Twitter alternative is really struggling to regain its popularity with users.
At the time of its launch on July 5, 2023, Threads got almost every Instagram user onboard with its popularity soaring high. It made records by gaining more than 100 million sign-ups on the App within the first five days of its launch.
Also read: Twitter vs Threads: 5 cool Twitter features that Threads still doesn’t have
Zuckerberg had even used the correct timeline to launch his new App as Twitter was facing a lot of backlash for the new policies rolled out by Elon Musk and people saw it as an alternative to the blue-bird App. But it now seems that Threads only had a small shot at fame and couldn’t beat Twitter.
As mentioned earlier, Threads had gained more than 100 million users within the first five days but a month later the Meta App is struggling with only 10.3 million daily active users. Reports suggest that about 79% of the initial users have stopped using the app altogether. Other reports reveal that Threads has lost more than half of its users already. A Reuters report cited an internal call from Meta, revealing that Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Threads’ retention was 'better than what the executives had expected, it was not perfect'.
A new report by Indian Express cites Similarweb, revealing that Threads had about 49.3 million active users on July 7. But now the numbers have dropped disappointingly to just 10.3 million active users. Further, the report reveals that initially, the average time spent on this new social media platform was about 21 minutes which has now dropped down to just 3 minutes per day.

Considering this data, Meta is reportedly strategising to bring back its engagement through various new features including but not limited to a web version, mention buttons etc.

Whatsapp will increase your app security with passkey protection: Report
Whatsapp is expected to launch a new feature which will help in increasing the security by passkey. However, WhatsApp users have various options to safeguard their accounts, such as traditional passwords and two-factor authentication and now this could be another feature, if you like your Whatsapp packed and protected. This addition will join the ranks of apps and websites that have already embraced passkey functionality. While Meta hasn't made an official announcement yet, a hidden passkey setup menu was discovered in the latest WhatsApp for Android beta version by WABetaInfo.
The passkey feature is still in development, without a current activation method. Nevertheless, this discovery strongly suggests that WhatsApp might soon offer users the choice of using a passkey instead of a conventional password.
Also read: WhatsApp a stranger without saving their contact is now easier than ever
In essence, a passkey is part of an industry-wide initiative aimed at enhancing security during authentication. Rather than relying on standard passwords, users can verify their identity through facial recognition or biometrics, eliminating the need to create and input a regular passcode. This technology has originated from the FIDO Alliance and can be found in Google, Apple and Microsoft.
Apple has rolled out a new feature that uses passkey and it automatically assigns it to Apple ID accounts for users on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. This innovation permits users to authenticate themselves on Apple-related websites using their passkey as a credential, bypassing the requirement for a password.
Apple users have been able to generate and store passkeys using Safari and iCloud Keychain since iOS 16. Now, with iOS 17, this capability extends to third-party apps. Recent announcements by TikTok and the well-known password manager 1Password also highlight their support for passkeys.

CMF by Nothing: What this new sub-brand means for the company
Nothing has a new sub-brand called CMF which aims for a clean design, accessibility and trusted quality. Although the company is yet to announce the full form of the acronym, some believe CMF expands to Color, Material, and Finish. But, more importantly, let’s try to understand what this means in this heavily contested smartphone space.
CMF by Nothing: What it means
The new sub-brand is meant to democratize consumer tech like smartphones and associated accessories to the masses.
Also Read: Nothing Phone 1: 1 year later, but 1 day before the Nothing Phone 2 launch
The larger brand will focus on design innovation, premium offerings, and the latest technology. Meanwhile, the CMF brand will cater to trusted quality and clean design that is “very difficult to find” in the affordable segment.
But couldn’t Nothing do this with its primary brand itself?
In other words:
Nothing: Why a new sub-brand?
Nothing doesn’t want people to see it as a budget brand. The bigger established brands like Samsung may be able to pull off a broad range of products under the same Galaxy brand name.
But at times, people may equate the limitations of lower-end phones to the whole line of phones from a brand. And this could poorly impact the sale of its mid-range and higher-end phones.
Also Read: Nothing Phone 2 Review: Something special
This may be the fault of a Luddite or the case of poor communication from the brand. But, a new brand like Nothing wouldn’t want to take such a risk.
This move could also immune Nothing from any issues that CMF may have in the future. On the flip side, the revenue from CMF could be put into R&D and marketing for the bigger brand.
Have you figured out what CMF means yet?
— Carl Pei (@getpeid) August 3, 2023But, it's all just assumptions at this point and too early to predict what the future holds for this sub-brand. We don’t even know its full form yet.
