Xiaomi Clouds Gallery Sync feature is being discontinued, but theres a alternative backup solution: Find what it is

Xiaomi will reportedly shut down its Gallery Sync option of Xiaomi Cloud, even though the official announcement about the same is pending. Currently, the company offers 5GB of free cloud storage for photos and videos, but users will now have to transfer those pictures to Google Photos.

Xiaomi is going to cancel sync photos and videos with Xiaomi Cloud and provide a convenient way to move them to Google Photos. Date to be determined yet, but it will start in 2022. pic.twitter.com/0cbpdgUstH

The official announcement is pending, but the company released the draft announcement with placeholder dates ("XX XX 2022"), so it's unknown when Xiaomi will take down Gallery Sync. They will most likely do it this year. The other Xiaomi Cloud services will continue to work, like synchronizing and backing up the contacts, messages, and notes. Also, Gallery Sync may remain in operation in China, although this is again something that’s not confirmed.

Xiaomi is planning to allow the transfer of pictures to Google Photos, and the users who don't want to do that will have the option of downloading a copy to store the images and videos locally instead.

Gallery Sync also has a paid version that gives users more storage – Xiaomi will cancel subscriptions and issue a full refund.

Once Xiaomi makes the official announcement, the users will have to download or transfer their data as soon as possible - it seems like Xiaomi is planning to keep the data only throughout 2023 and will discard it later. Xiaomi stated, "We offer a way to download Gallery data stored in Xiaomi Cloud to your device. However, the data download will be available only until XX, XX, 2023, after which the device will no longer support this feature."
