Recently, many YouTube users had to sign up for YouTube premium to use its 4k resolution service. It is speculated that the social media platform might make 4k resolution exclusive to only those with premium subscriptions.
Youtube has not made any official statement related to the changes. But recently, a Reddit user, with the username 'Ihatesmokealarms' shared a screenshot of the message popup asking him to tap to upgrade to the premium subscription.
According to the screenshot shared by the user, people cannot access 4k video resolution instead can use only 1440P or 2k resolution.
General users may not be affected by this, but those users who watch videos on the TV will notice a slight downgrade in the video quality.
YouTube Premium offers monthly subscriptions at Rs 129, Rs 399 for three months and Rs 1290 for 1 year. Meanwhile, premium subscribers are also entitled to some benefits of having the subscription such as ad-free videos, picture-in-picture playback and access to YouTube Premium music.
The premium subscription also offers users to download videos offline. Previously this year, YouTube was running a test to skip 10 ads before playing a video.
According to the screenshot shared the 4K resolution i.e 2160p will be locked for non-premium subscribers.
